Love this place… Killer grinds. Killer lunch and happy hour specials. Beware the waitresses are over charging every time now. Not sure why. Maybe the owner needs to be monitoring them closer. Im gonna slow down on eating here for a while… Im sick of ordering lunch with water ends up coming out to $ 23.00 without a tip no matter what i order… Ask waitresses over and over and they dont understand why? Go figure

We visit Amigos on a regular basis. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the chips with salsa are the perfect addition to an extensive beer selection. Enjoy!

The food is rather authentic… but every single time my family and I have come to eat the one waitress is actually so rude it’s rather disturbing… we always have to ask a number of times for our beverages and my daughter has ordered a beverage twice now which never gets… this«waitress«only acknowledges the single male customers that come in and it’s frustrating… want to give them Bussiness but it’s hard when the service sucks !

Absolutely terrible service. Walked in, a server looked at us, didn’t greet us and proceeded to finishing wiping a table and push in chairs. Wasn’t busy at all for a Friday night. We sat ourselves and waited about 5 minutes, we went on our phones to look for another restaurant because no one greeted us. Finally a different server comes to our table and gives us menus. So then we decided to give it a chance. She asks for our drink orders and comes back with our drinks and chips. No salsa. We thought it was odd to not get salsa with the chips. We ordered and got our food. Food was good and came out quickly. As we were eating we noticed another couple walk in and immediately get seated, menus and chips with a variety of salsas! Wow, seems like they just didn’t like us. Bottom line. Crappy service and we will never be returning.

Wanted to try something other than the norm so Mexican it is. It’s a seat yourself restaurant then you get serve complimentary basket of their house chips and they have a salsa bar you can choose your poison. I had the Carne Asada burrito and wow. everything inside was evenly spread. Not so filled with beans, right anount of Carne asada perfect amount of all the other goodness. They don’t fill their burritos up with all lettuce like some places. My fiancé had the wet pork tamales. That was amazing. Wet meaning she had it with the enchilada sauce on the tamales. And I was shocked that are 10am ish, they already busy. The servers were all very friendly and even though it was busy they still was friendly with a smile on their face. Oh and for dessert we got their fried ice cream, and let me tell you, hands down da best one yet

OK… nothing to cheer about. Chips some of the worst I’ve ever had… our family only ate a handful. Bland and stale-tasting. No one mentioned they have a salsa bar… it’s kind of off to the side. We had to ask about salsa. All four members of our party ordered something different… all said meal was fine, but would not return again. We eat Mexican food just about anywhere we visit, and this was really average. Service slow, even though we came in at the end of the lunch rush… took about 45 minutes after we ordered for our food to come out? Disappointing…

Ok sat down chips and water immediately brought to table. No salsa? Waitress came explained it is self service. Thought the gentleman who brought chips would have mentioned. Salsa is kinda has the burnt taste to it and spicy which I do not mind either. Atmosphere is quaint with seating for about 40 customers, small bar up front sits 4. Staff seems like they are working all the time lots of movement, seems clean although can not see kitchen. Tried to order Pacifico told they were out so ordered a Dos eq.(on draft) plus!!! Food came out and was Luke warm, would have helped if it was piping hot. The quality was just ok, the staff was great. Let’s get the kitchen up to par and I think you can get to 4 stars. Might want to add a little water to the beans make sure they are boiling hot same with the encilada sauce it would make a huge difference. Would be nice to be able to say be careful plates are really hot. In this case the exact opposite :(

I don’t know what happened here but Amigos has simply gone down hill. I am a Mexican food lover not snob. I used to go there a couple times a month. Then the food quality just seemed to get bad so I hadn’t gone there for a long time. Today I gave it another chance and wished I would hadn’t. Maybe the management should do quality control. Adiós Amigos

With the numerous Mexican restaurants on the rock, how do they stand out? For me, the deciding factor is all about the burrito! I know shredded beef is the norm, the tradition, blah blah blah. For me, it’s all about the texture. ATMOSPHERE: The small restaurant is located on the first level of the Akaku Center at the corner of Dairy & Alamaha. It’s a simple space with a tiny bar and a few tables, and salsa bar. FOOD: Beef Burrito — I will always opt for ground beef over shredded, as like I said, it’s a texture thing. Hallelujah, they offer both versions. Long-time Mauians will remember the defunct Taco Lei in the old Kaahumanu Center. That’s how their beef burrito tastes like. It’s huge, stuffed with cheese, sour cream, lettuce, refried beans, guacamole, and sour cream. I axed the rice & pico de gallo. Comes with a minuscule amount of tortilla chips. Simple, tasty, and incomparable, IMO. SERVICE: I phoned in my order and it was ready and waiting. Overall service is mainstream. TIP: Amigo’s has 2 other locations in Kihei & Lahaina. OVERALL: Worlds better than Maui Tacos!

Have eaten here a few times in the month of January 2016. Mind you, I drive down from Upcountry to have food here if I’m not in town for errands. Limited Mexican food options on the mountain. What this should say — Meh. I’ve experienced better SERVICE. Wait staff sorely lacking in training to refill drinks and check on whether the food is ok. This is at both lunch and dinner meals. They *never* tell you where the salsa bar is, unless you are seated on the side of the adjacent strip mall units where the thing lives. The Kihei location does not have room for a salsa bar, so they bring you salsa with your chips. My tips reflect their lack of follow-up. Food is better better spiced than the location in Kihei, where I ate many times last year. Guacamole is much better in Kahului. Sign above salsa bar says that there’s a 50 cent surcharge for To Go food. Seems to be very popular with the Spanish-speaking residents of Maui and most of the servers are bi-lingual. Advice — be a nice yet demanding client. Avoid the chips as my Hispanic friend thinks they’re foul. M-F there are specials served at Lunch and Dinner and are worth choosing them for the $ discount.

The food was 7⁄10 good, not excellent, but satisfactory. The service however, was brutal. I adore family –owned& operated establishments, but, a woman at the Amigos in Kahului was killing her attitude, & slack. After walking in after my boyfriend, I waited for over 10mins for her to even ask if I would like a drink, um hello, water would be nice! By the time she came back to the table, I was ready for a margaritta,(top shelf margaritta btw) 10mins later, my margaritta arrives without the salt that i asked for & in a glass beer mug!?! After a few sips, I walked to the bar to see over 15 margaritta glasses clean & shiny up on the shelf?! «hi, um, can i have a margaritta glass with salt on the rim please?» While rolling her eyes & turning back to get the glass, the bartender passes me my glass. 10mins later, we paid & walked out. Never again.

Food was good. Waitress was great. Salsa was so so. Nice to have 3 choices but none was a stand out. Had the ground beef chimi and it was good! Large size and good flavor.

For Maui this is a great place for Mexican food. Good service and very low key.

Excellent Mexican food. We had the shrimp ceviche while waiting for our friends. Very good. Even better when I added their delicious tomatillo salsa to it from their incredible salsa bar. I had chile verde. Delish. Hubby had Colorado burrito. He loved it. Our friends had enchiladas and carnitas and ate it all. Well they are the ones they recommended this place and my friends husband should know cuz he’s from Mexico. This is great authentic Mexican food. And the salsa bar is incredible. !!!

While an institution on the island – and rightfully so – this is my least favorite location. The food remains more or less the same – some of the best Mexican grinds you can get on Maui – but the smallness of this venue and the loud music that’s played always gives me a mean headache. Still, if you’re in town and are craving tacos, this is the place to be.

I’ve really taken a liking to Amigos. Convenient location makes this my new favorite spot when running errands in town. The girls who work there are all local and authentic. Don’t expect any ass-kissery or over-the-top welcome. Just come as you are. My favs are the hard shell tacos with the carnitas, ground or shredded beef. I also like the carne asana burrito and cheese enchilada with the verde sauce. The top shelf margarita packs a punch. Help yourself salsa bar, basket of chips… What really sets them apart from the rest are their beers on tap served in icy cold mugs as they should be! The best on island! Aribba! Aribba! Andale!

I wish the rankings were broken down by topic. Food and service really should be separate. I’ve been to this Amigo’s for years, and so my opinions are the result of many observations. Pros: — Good location near many other places people need to go. — The food is pretty good given Maui’s handicap in this area. For food quality alone, I would give this place a 3.5 — 4(this is a Maui scale, if this place was in Los Angeles, it would be out of business sadly). Cons: — I’ve watched the owner be rude to just too many people. It does not offset his good times. My best guess is he is either bipolar, or has massive mood swings. In general he is always good with me. But it just kept happening, and finally he was really rude to someone I was dining with, in a group of 6 of us, and I had to say that was it, I won’t be coming back. Quick back of the napkin math shows he will lose between $ 1−2K per year of my business. And I can no longer suggest the place to any of my friends. — This previous point spills onto the wait staff. Most of the staff really are trying to do a good job, but again, a half dozen or so times I have watched them give just horrible service to people. And, again, in general it has not been directed at me, but I watch some pretty pissed off people, and for good reason. I suspect the owner/manager sets the mood, and this is the result. I hope he gets some personal help, or hands the place over to a well suited manager. Or, perhaps his location provides him enough business and he doesn’t care. Hard to tell.

I think this place better 5 years ago when it was smaller and the owner was always there at the checkout to talk stories with you. The food was better then too. But it’s still good to come check out once in a while.

Ok only been once(usually go Fiesta Time to satisfy need for Mex), and the fajitas were pretty good — not anything super special — but their service was as good as can be at a cheapish sit down place like this. Had come in right as they were closing(some online source had misrepresented their hours), and was seated cheerfully. Waitress happily answered? s on menu, and brought food and drink quick.
