Lumber department people behind the computer sucks. I’d rate them a –2 star if Unilocal allowed it. They give attitude, slam the keys on the keyboard and pout. They tried to convince me to buy the pre cut stuff so I don’t bother them to cut it. Geez, that is your job so why is that a hassle? Find a new job if you hate your job. Simple as that

Expensive. The garden guy they have is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. It’s cool as I believe they actually cultivate some of what they sell in the garden area(I think.) at times they have nice orchids. Back like 2 years ago they had really good prices on orchids but those prices have now tripled. Now they are way too high. Like the rest of their prices!

I expect more from a local business. It’s hit or miss when you ask an employee for help. Some are very nice and helpful, others barely gave me the time of day. I would love to support a local business but the customer service needs to be consistently better!

Hardware Hawaii is like a local community based hardware store that you don’t find very much anymore. They have everything from soup to nuts and a huge lumber selection. Many of my contractor friends enjoy supporting this business because of the personal attention that they give to each and every customer. Staff members are well aware of their products, where they are located, if they have a specific item in stock or not, and if they don’t know something they will quickly find somebody that does. You have given me much good advice and I go out of my way to go to Kailua from Kamichi just to visit the store

Very good and well stocked hardware building supply store. Lots of associates, seem to have a good deal of the employee turn over, but employees try to be helpful. The customer service is good but some security procedures slow purchasing time, e, g, certain paint are locked up and an associate has to take it to the cashier for.

It’s amazing how many items they have in each department. You can get just about anything other than some specialty items here. I’ve saved myself many trips to town by coming here first. They have a wide assortment of fasteners in various grades and metals. Their plumbing and electrical parts departments also carry a wide variety of parts to complete most repairs or rough in jobs. Their lumbar department has a wide variety of treated lumber, doors, pipe, rebar, fencing material, and moldings. If you go on a weekday during daytime hours you’ll get the best customer service in each section. They hire retired plumbers and electricians for those departments and they know where all the little parts you need are and can really get you out in a hurry or help you with a problem you might have questions about. Two reasons for not giving them five stars is some of their tool prices are marked up quite a bit in my opinion, but it might be worth it to some people for the convenience of having it right now or not making a trip over the mountain. The other reason is the occasional lousy customer service in a specific department as I said try and go during daytime hours during the week and you’ll find more knowledgeable staff who are happy to help. Also the cashiers almost always greet you with a smile and are very friendly. I’d recommend this store for most hardware needs.

The joys of moving across the continent are seemingly endless, and settling into a new home involves what feels like countless trips to the store. I feel like I’ve been to Hawaii Hardware every day this week, and I always feel like I’ve been helped and leave content. The staff always find me and offer help, which I always need after wandering about aimlessly staring down aisles until something clicks. I also purchased some items that were the wrong size or type, and the return process was easy and painless. Prices are reasonable, and they have convenient on-site parking, which makes stopping in for an item or two a no-brainer.

Ok I am in here all the time. Typical hardware store, but this is where they absolutely fail. NOBODY has a clue about their products. First time it happened I asked for an extension level over the phone. They said they did not have one. They did, and it was $ 100 cheaper than the one I got from town. Now I ask for a rotary laser, no idea what it is. While this is happening a lady is asking a longer lenght of 1×8 and dude is playing her stupid and trying to sell her a 1×10 because he does not understand lumber dimensions. Great store just beware of way less than par employees.

Josie is an absolute Gem!!! She gave us personal service above and beyond anything we’ve ever experienced in a hardware store. She knew where all the tools were and helped us decide which tools we needed for our repairs to an 80 year old house! Thank you Josie, couldn’t have done it without you.

Customer service needs improvement. I spoke to 4 employees. 3 of them brushed me off when I inquired about an ad item that I couldn’t find. They were rude and abrupt and didnt welcome my questions

Wow horrible customer service. Local lady helping us in the nut and bolt isle was basically rushing us. Very rude and no customer service skills. The other employee behind her heard her and just made an irritated face and told us that we made her mad, like we did something wrong. While checking out, another lady at the business line register really did not want to help us, like we were wasting her time. I live in kailua, but i will go to town if I need to go to a hardware store.

I was wanting to replace several window screens as I called several places in town and found that Hardware Hawaii had the best prices. I spoke to Clint in the screen department and had him do 4 of them first. They came out wonderful! I had him do another 5 more. Excellent workmanship and reasonable prices! Highly recommended if you are looking for new screens. All the workers are helpful and friendly! Keep up the good work Clint!

Open using generator during power outage, with employees with flashlights and cell phone lights assisting each customer to find what they need. That’s dedication! This is awesome, thank you Hardware Hawaii Kailua!!! My fastest easiest time here. Forget those other orange apron warehouses. This will be my first stop from now on.

A very good mid-range alternative to the cavernous big box hardware stores. Very friendly and helpful staff. Parking lot shared with Goodwill and could fill up at busier times.

Very happy with several visits to this store. The staff know their trade and are helpful. I had a great experience with their screen shop, especially John who was helping out while the regular guy was on vacation. mahalo!

Just a solid store all around. The customer service is phenomenal and I have never had an employee not know where something was. Most of the time, they actually personally walk you directly to the item you are looking for. Prices are competitive with other local hardware stores. No need go anywhere else in Kailua for hardware.

Sometimes(well, most times) I prefer the impersonal nature of the big, warehouse stores. I go in, I get what I need, I pay at the self-checkout, and I’m outta there without having to interact with anyone. Easy breezy. On a recent trip to Hardware Hawaii(my first time there), I was expecting to do the same thing, so I was a bit startled when a nearby employee asked me if I needed help.(When has that ever happened at Home Depot? You have to practically tackle those guys to get them to stop and help you). Anyway, I said«no» and went about looking for my items. A minute later, another employee, walking by, asks if I need help again. I think I was in the store for a total of 10 minutes and was offered help by 3 or 4 employees. Even the cashier asked(genuinely) if I found what I needed. Wow. Hardware Hawaii looks, feels and acts like an old school hardware store. Their selection and prices might not compare to Home Depot or Lowes, but they treat their customers right and that’s why they keep coming back. I’ll definitely be back.
