I’m going to start by saying I think I ordered the wrong dish. After seeing the images of the appetizers on here they look delicious. Came here for lunch and I ordered the chicken salad. It was ok. Nothing spectacular. I will give them another try and update this review at a later date.

Great atmosphere. Our bartender, Mango, was awesome! Great info on the area. We had the poutine. Very good! Good beer selection too. We’ll be back

This place was bomb! Visiting the city and we found it on Unilocal. In the previous days Unilocal had led me wrong more than once but, damn, not today. Cost: about $ 80 for 2. Ambience/service: 5⁄5(Mango was great, polite, and didn’t steer is wrong with recommendations). Salad: asparagus salad was perfectly sweet and the cheese was a nice touch to add creaminess Entrées: rabbit & duck, neither of rich are on their Unilocal menu. I can say that they obviously update their menu from time to time. I got the rabbit, the man got the duck– we both really enjoyed our own meals but also liked the other’s. Both were cooked to perfection– not gamey, fatty, or oily like both can often be. They were both tender, juicy, and very flavorful. Dessert: Apple thing(can’t remember the name). I was worried it would be too sweet with the ice cream on top but it was perfect because they salt the crust just enough on the pastry to cut the sweetness. 10⁄5. :)

Just attended an event there. The wait staff and probably the chefs were overwhelmed and the resulting service was pretty ghastly. The food IS pricey. It’s good too. But there’s no excuse for being surly with guests who had nothing to do with the numbers of the crowd or the staff. The event started at 6:30 yet the staff said they had no idea we would order food. Right. And like that’s a bad thing. Meh, is right.

If I could give them 10 stars I would! Fan-freaking-tastic food and exceptional service! Late Sunday lunch outside yesterday on the gorgeous patio. Blown away by the very friendly and super knowledgeable server(thank you again, Laura!). Literally did a Google search on the wine maker of the beautiful Cote De Rhone we were having and reported back. Even better, she spoke highly of the entire staff there with special call out to chef. Btw… if you haven’t had the key lime pie with cumquat… you haven’t lived. We had the Banh mi(non trad but awesome) and the house made bagel and gravlax. So, so good! The entire menu looked tasty, and I’m sure you can’t go wrong. If you’re like us and want a great place to have lunch on a Sunday… go. If you’re looking for a great dinner… go. If you’d like a great vibe and craft cocktails… go I think you get the picture…

The man and I had bookmarked this restaurant as a place we wanted to try several weeks ago. I already want to go back! We ventured out on a first Friday, yet didn’t have trouble finding a parking spot since they have a parking lot across street from the restaurant. He started with the Oberon beer and I had a refreshing citrusy cocktail called the KC Cup, while we tried to narrow down which appetizer to try. They all looked delicious, and were described well in the menu presentation. We finally settled on the steak tartare, which I had never had but wanted to try. The appetizer arrived in an appropriate amount of time and we both enjoyed the well-seasoned and dressed steak. The grilled bread was a perfect vehicle. We spent more time looking at the menu, and other plates around us in an attempt to decide what to order. Again, everything looked so good! The man decided on the pork chops, which were thick and juicy, served with a corn pudding and crisp haricoverts. I decided on the rabbit, which I had also never had, served saltimbocca style with prosciutto and sage. The rabbit was served over some buttery gnocchi, peas, and mushrooms. Such a rich and delicious meal!

Pretty decent place to grab a bite to eat! We stopped in here solely because we wanted to try a new restaurant somewhat close to home. We both ordered steak frites, and the steak came out well seasoned, cooked well, and the fries and salad were tasty. The portion size on the flat iron steak was decent. Likely around 5−6oz, but it didn’t totally justify the price for that size of that cut of meat. The atmosphere was cool, with exposed brick walls and a very modern feel. Service definitely could use some improvement. We weren’t checked on once during our meal, we were never asked if we would like drink refills, and the dessert menu was slapped on the table with no explanation, causing us to turn down finishing our meal with anything sweet. Would I come here again? Yes. Would I rush back? Probably not. There are better options in KC for the money, especially where service is concerned.

We enjoyed a dinner with a large party of ten on a first Friday at Boulevard Tavern. We had dined here before and we’re thrilled to bring a group of friends to enjoy the great food, service and ambiance. Everyone had rave reviews after our meal. We started out with a sampling of craft cocktails and a bottle of wine; everyone was pleased with their selections. We split some appetizers; hands down favorite was the fried cheese curds — we ordered a third order of them! The entrees were all amazing too. I had the Shrimp and grits, and was perfectly happy. We ended the meal with a sampling of desserts suggested by our server. I’d highly recommend Boulevard Tavern for a group as well as for a date night!

I have to split this rating down the middle and here is why: I ordered the Dry-Aged Duroc Pork Chop(based off recommendations that this pork chop is better than Bobby Flay’s pork chop entrée that he serves in his restaurant in Nevada, so naturally I had to try it) and it didn’t disappoint. I give the dish 5⁄5 stars and if my stomach had hands than it would personally write a «thank you» card to the chef, who studied at CIA in New York I found out. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the bourbon/maple gravy that smothered the pork chop was the proverbial cherry on top of the cake. Now, my date ordered the Angel Hair pasta and this is where my review took a two star hit. First, if you don’t like black truffle then DONOT get it. Secondly, the pasta is dry, but that could be the pasta sauce snob in me coming out that loves a wet pasta. Third, the pasta comes with no sauce, but the poached egg is a nice tough since the egg yolk soaks into the pasta and gives it a redeeming flavor. The price you pay for it is not worth it though. The staff is helpful, friendly and cheerful. I kept pestering them with questions about the menu and they answered each one with a smile. Given the variety and quality of food that this place serves, as well as the cooking staff it employs, I was hoping for more of an classy, upscale or intimate vibe and you don’t. The poutine fries are pretty good, but could use more of the smothering of gravy that makes this dish appealing in the first place.

Wanted to try a new place. We were super impressed! Absolutely love the sangria, white and red. We accidentally hit happy hour(yes, happy hour on Saturdays). We tried the olives & feta and the pickles & pimento. We loved everything. Came back today to do it all over again. New fav place.

I’m not quite sure that I would describe it as a gastropub, but the food is definitely in the upper tiers of the pub category. There is nothing really wrong with the food. In fact, it is solid. My only difference of opinion with the description would be based on the fact that it lacks a bit of subtlety. Having said that, I enjoyed a very delicious rabbit enchilada that was creative and delivered a subtle favor that other dishes lacked. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and deliver excellent flavor. I thought it was on par with others I’ve had and it just lacked a creative angle(baby carrots and mint-pistachio accompanied the dish… as it does at so many other, less-equiped pub kitchens). I think I am being a bit tough on BLVD tavern because I think it can impress with just a bit of work. In fact, I’m looking forward to getting back the next time business brings me to KC.

Sometimes I think I give out too many 5-stars, but the habit won’t stop with Blvd Tavern. I ate here the first time back in October for lunch, and I don’t know why I never got around to writing a review then. Unilocaler Daughter and I split an order of poutine fries and shrimp & grits and walked out just full enough and completely satisfied. The fries were decadent indeed, dripping with rich brown gravy and cheese curds. The shrimp were big and juicy, the grits the perfect consistency, and the sauce over it was delicious. It’s a wonder a fight didn’t break out because we were sharing! Fast forward to mid-March, and YD was buying me birthday dinner. We were reminded it’s impossible to park downtown during the Big 12 tournament, so after striking out at Providence(sob!), we prayed for a parking space and a table at Blvd. Prayers answered, and once again, Blvd could do no wrong. I don’t know why I hardly ever order white fish in a restaurant, maybe I’m afraid it’ll be bland or fishy. But the grouper sounded awesome, and let me tell you, I’ll never be afraid to order fish from Blvd, that’s for sure! It came on Hoppin’ John, which I’ve never seen on a menu here, with a sumptuous corn purée and crawfish sauce. Absolutely amazing, even to YD who otherwise won’t touch black-eyed peas. She got perfectly medium-rare steak frites with those same wonderful fries minus the gravy. Birthday means alcohol and dessert, of course, and Blvd owns these, too. I don’t remember what they called it, but their version of a Manhattan will fix what ails ya, and Carrie’s more summery beverage was refreshing and tasty, too. And the apple tart with beer-infused vanilla ice cream? Worth getting a year older for. Service has always been great, and the rustic brick/modern décor is warm and comfortable. This place is a don’t-miss in the Crossroads, for sure!

I’ve now been here 3 times and each time I’ve left happy and full. The shrimp and grits is exactly what it should be — flavorful, warm, and a guilty indulgence. Last night I had the short rib and I am still dreaming of how tasty and tender that meat was. Be sure to make a reservation for a weekend dinner and be aware that it is a bit on the pricey side of things. Enjoy!

I’d been wanting to try Blvd Tavern for awhile and I finally ended up here for Easter brunch with my husband. We made reservations although upon arrival we realized it wasn’t too terribly busy, just comfortable. We were there around 12:45, probably just missing the post-church Easter brunch rush. Everything on the menu looked incredible. EVERYTHING. This is one of those restaurants where you could play roulette with the menu and score a total win no matter where the ball landed. We couldn’t decide on what to get which will describe the odd«brunch» things we chose. First we started with the Steak Tartare and the Poutine fries. If you go there and don’t order the Poutine fries, you are doing yourself a great disservice! Smothered in gravy a cheese curds but still crispy, you’ll never have better Poutine in your life. For our«meal» we split the BG&E. They did an amazing job elevating a brunch classic. With so many things on the menu I want to try and a trac record of 3⁄3 delicious dishes, I can’t wait to go back and EATEVERYTHING.

Honestly some of the better food I’ve had in Kansas City. 5 stars, something I don’t normally give out unless everything was perfect. Great atmosphere, quality food, good pricing for the quality of food. The entrees had absolutely amazing presentation, making the food taste that much better. Pretzel crusted cheddar cheese bites with a house made honey Dijon as app. I ordered the steak, medium rare, and it was fork tender. My friend had the grouper. We both licked the plate clean. Both dishes looked like they should cost double the price. The staff at BLVD Tavern better get used to seeing my face!

I tried Blvd tavern for lunch on a weekday. We started off with the pretzel cheese curds. These were so delis hours! The batter was light and distinct and the mustard dipping sauce had a punch to it. My reuben was not spectacular, it was too meat centric and needed more sauerkraut and dressing. Definitely, would not order again. My friend had the fish tacos, which she thought were pretty basic. The dish came with a side of chiles that were splendid. Cheese curds– 5 star Reuben– 2 star Fish tacos– 3 star Chilis– 5 star Ambiance– 5 star I would go back, as they hit some things out of the park and you just need to know what to order.

I almost gave it three stars but the description of two stars is right on. The food was good. It could have been better. The restaurant and its decisions were not that great. For example, no salt and pepper on the table. My food got cold while waiting for some salt. And here is the big head scratcher. They made the decision to carry coke brands over pepsi brands(yay!!) but the also made the decision to carry Coke Zero instead of Diet Coke. Really??? And I really wanted a diet coke. There were some other head scratching decisions they made too. This place has 4.5 stars. Maybe I am wrong. A couple of simple things would make it three stars.

It’s been awhile since I’ve left a restaurant feeling as full and content as I did when I left BLVD tavern. The hubs and I tried this place out recently and absolutely loved our experience. We started with cheese curds – personally I think fried cheese is hard to mess up but they serve theirs with some sort of Dijon mustard-ish dipping sauce that was delicious. Our entrees were amazing. I ordered the cassoulet, which came with seasoned white beans, a house made garlic sausage, duck confit, and crispy bread crumbs. It was delicious and filling. My only complaint is that it was just a touch saltier than I would have liked but I still completely enjoyed it nonetheless. My husband got the rabbit schnitzel with currywurst sausage and it was to die for. Just writing about it now is making my mouth water. I really like that their menu changes so frequently. I am looking forward to coming back soon and trying something different. They definitely had some unique menu offerings but that is part of the appeal of this place to me. Other Unilocalers have classified BLVD tavern as «hipster», which is a vibe that I don’t always enjoy… but I was not getting that vibe the night of our visit. I also found the staff very friendly, down to earth, and hospitable. Can’t wait to return!

After anxiously awaiting to try this new concept full of standard gastropub fare plus a little hint of some other fare, I came away pretty impressed. It’s definitely a different concept during lunch; You’ve got burgers and whatnot, but then you also tempura battered serrano peppers and double fried Korean wings. While it could be perceived as the«Jack of All Trades,» it is instead just a creative twist to their overall menu. I had the beef on weck which came on a salty bun with shaved prime rib. It was pretty tasty, and the au jus style sauce with it made it better. The fries were crispy and flavorful as well. Service was pretty slow on the day I went, but they got hit with a lunch rush all at once so it’s hard to blame it. Just took well over an hour for lunch which is sub-optimal. I’d be back to try their dinner, but I’m likely more eager to give their brunch Johnny Cakes a chance first. The Unilocal pictures of them covered in blueberries look amazing!

I met with six others for dinner here around 7pm on a Tuesday. This was in the same location as Nica’s 320 if you were familiar with that place. Parking in the area was limited to street parking or I think the parking lot nearby. There were quite a few people already here at 7pm. Our table was being prepared so we were at the bar. The staff here were nice and friendly. Our waitress actually reminds me of my friend which was good. I sat down on the bench against the wall. It was a little awkward positioning since the bench was short forcing me to slouch forward. The menu had a good selection of starters and entrees. We ordered the cheese curds($ 6), poutine($ 8), and scotch eggs($ 10) to start off. I read other Unilocal reviews about the kfc($ 11) as well as the shishito peppers($ 7) so I wanted to try those. The group was a little hesitant but I went ahead and told our waitress. I was feeling a burger so I ordered the daily grind burger($ 13) even though other things on the menu sounded good. The cheese curds were warmish so we had them heat them up. After they brought them back, they were blazing hot. The cheese curds were not bad especially with the brown sugar-thyme dijon sauce. The poutine was just okay and was lacking the gravy. Shouldn’t poutine be smothered with gravy? The scotch eggs were also just okay to me. It wasn’t bad but I’ve definitely had something better. The kfc(korean fried chicken) was a little spicy and tasty. If you like kimchi then it also came with that which complemented the kfc. Finally, the shishito peppers were not spicy at all but was good with the sesame kewpi mayo. Everybody agreed the shishito peppers were the best starter that we ordered and were glad I decided to order those anyways. The daily grind burger was big and tasty while the fries were nothing special. I tried a piece of the beef pot pie and that was good. It was piping hot so don’t rush eating that since all of the steam just came off of it for a good ten or more seconds. The porkchop with the bourbon syrup was good. For dessert, I asked our waitress what was the most popular dessert ordered. I always ask that if I can’t decide what to order. She told us the apple croustade($ 6) was the most popular one and the menu changes every so often. We ordered that as well as the lemon curd and berry tart($ 6). The apple croustade was delicious and I’d recommend that for dessert. The lemon curd and berry tart was good but didn’t compare to the apple croustade. I thought Blvd Tavern was good and had some tasty food.
