Much improved our last several timea. Food was hot and fresh and service has imprved 100%. We had had the two meat plate with brisket and chopped pork. Was hot, tasty, and just the right serving size.

Crappie ordered ribs barely had any meat on them also too expensive. I would rather go to famous Dave’s or anywhere else

Food was pretty darn good for a grab and go BBQ place. Best part was the staff, very friendly, and took time to make recommendations.

Very friendly service. The young man behind the counter suggested brisket chopped and the spicy cheddar sausage. I was very pleased with the meats as well as the slaw and green beans. The green beans had ample pepper and were certainly not overcooked. The cheddar sausage was very good. The brisket, though a bit dry, was tasty.

For some reason I let a person with inadequate taste buds pick where we would eat today. They decided on dickeys. Never liked chain bbq joints and this visit reminded me why. They were correct in calling this Texas bbq, cause Texas bbq SUCKS. why would you take a brisket and chop it up? Who serves(uncooked)dinner rolls with bbq. Who adds mustard to mashed potatoes and calls it potato salad. Dickeys does. First and last time ever eating in there establish. The high light of my meal will be the free ice cream. Oh, by the way I’m lactose intolerant.

I got the largest sandwich they had. I think they call it the Westener. It is supposed to have two portions of meat on it. I ordered all brisket. What a joke! I doubt the whole thing had even 4oz’s of meat on it — for about $ 9.50! It came with no sides. It tasted ok, but they get one star for providing low, low value. I’ll never go back.(I wonder if perhaps they only prepared the sandwich with half the meat it was supposed to have.) You get a bigger sandwich at Gates(a real bbq restaurant) for about $ 7.

Good Texas style BBQ, on a holiday afternoon. The service was quick and friendly, and a free ice cream cone(with or without the Unilocal coupon) is a fine finish.

Great food for the price ! Fresh and very tasty. I was so surprised at how good it was, I had the 2 meat plate pulled pork which was my favorite and brisket very good. What I loved was they serve it plain no sauce and the pork was so well seasoned you didn’t need anything. For the price of fast food it was just a great meal The quality was equal to other famous places in town

What can I say about Dickey’s? Unfortunately not much of anything good. Very bold move for a chain barbecue restaurant to open it’s doors in Kansas City of all places. The food is edible but nowhere near being in the same class of barbecue as the local establishments. And a little on the pricey side for what you get. I never see much of a crowd outside this establishment which is very telling in a city where the people are known for their love of barbecue. The only people that seem to have any reverence for this place at all are out of towners that apparently haven’t been exposed to much barbecue. I really don’t expect this place to exist in the KC metro area in a few years.

I need to eat here more often! Everybody’s really nice, & there’s a TV, but for me, the hook is the ice cream machine! I didn’t know what I ought to get at my most recent visit, but everyone was ready to help me make a decision! You guys gotta try those onion thingies! But also, I really appreciate sauce on the side. Those sauce warmers make so much sense. I’m the type of guy that dips my BBQ into sauces, Iikes spicy, sauce that’s not too thick, not too sweet, and this way, sauce won’t make your meat cold or something!

This was our second trip to the KC area in the last year. We have been trying various BBQ places in the area(to include Arthur Bryant’s and the Smokehouse), usually having the burnt ends. We figure this is what this area is known for, so we get it while we can. Our experience at Dickey’s, while a bit«fast foodish», was the best BBQ we had on this trip. This was surprising given that it’s a chain, but it was very good. We had the ribs and the sliced beef, both of which were tender and flavorful. The only reason this place doesn’t get five stars is that they don’t have burnt ends on the menu, which is inexplicable for a BBQ joint in KC. The free ice cream made for a nice touch as well. We will be back here on out next visit, no doubt.

Being a big black man, I know my Q. I also have broken out of my «one trick pony» BBQ restaurant ways. That said, I have had Dickey’s before in Overland Park, but thought I’d give the new kid in the block(the one up near Boardwalk Shops) a try. I placed my order online. When I got there, they were in evening rush. They hadn’t had a chance to get to my order, or so I thought. A very accommodating and super upbeat young lady who was the franchise owner had already filled the order for me. This truly impressed me. She was very proud of the restaurant, believed in her product, believed in the product, and handled all issues that came her way super swiftly and very courteously. Major brownie points in my book for that. I ordered a smattering of everything so I could give a more adept review. The sides were great(green beans and Mac & Cheese). Upside on the green beans was there was enough liquor(juice from the cooking) to keep them moist and delicious. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and pretty flavorful(I like mine a little sharper than average). The meats were good. The sausage was juicy and had the right amount of kick. The sauce married very well with it. Beef and ham were done very well. The ham was not salty which is a usual complaint I have at most BBQ places. The beef was a tad dry, but still very good. The ribs were also a tad toward the dry side, but had nice smokiness and flavor. Now for those of you who read my reviews regularly, you are probably wondering why I give this location a 5 stars given the food. It is because of the people, mainly the owner. This is a pretty new Dickey’s and the owner is just getting her foot down in the area. Her attitude which passed down to the staff was awesome. The little things I encountered with the food I attributed to being during a high volume hour. It also did not detract from me truly enjoying my meal. I see her as a local business, not just another franchise. She truly owns her business, believes in it, and that type of love for what she is doing is shared by her staff. That is a VERY rare attitude indeed, whether mom and pop or big chain. I will definitely go back and eat here and I encourage anyone in the area to stop by and support this location. After all, you gotta support one of the local sheriffs. ;-)

The good… BBQ chopped brisket on bun was great. Nice size sandwich, tasty meat, great bun. The fries were great, hot and crispy. The bad… no containers for sauce? No utensils? No offer of a drink? The green beans were just okay, cool enough to eat with my fingers(since I didn’t get a fork) but were not very well seasoned. I used some little ice cream cups for sauce. The weird… now I am not the most feminine woman, but even the lesbian(or trans man, not sure) behind the counter looked at the cashier like she was blind when she kept referring to me as «him» and«he». I wasnt offended, but it was a very awkward exchange and I didnt feel super comfortable sitting in the restaurant and eating. I thought it was weird that she didnt ask if i wanted a drink or anything. But then, i wasn’t looking to pay $ 2.25 for a drink… jeez. Oh well. Maybe I will try again.

I’ve waited to post this review because it is somewhat embarrassing. but after a conversation with someone who agrees with me at work, I feel like I can let it out: Dickey’s is one of my favorite BBQ places. Now, I know Dickey’s is fast food and no, the meat isn’t labored over and blessed by the saints like it is at some restaurants, but when I am hungry, Dickey’s totally fits the bill. I usually get the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, but I also really like the spicy sausages and even the ham. I’ve heard good word about the brisket, but I haven’t had it. Where Dickey’s really gets me is the sides. The best fried okra around and the mac and cheese is absolutely heavenly. I also love the onion strings and the potato salad is the perfect level of mustard. I limit myself to 2 sides when I come here and this usually involves me lingering at the counter going back and forth between my choices. Another bonus: Free ice cream that you don’t have to wait in line for. They also let you keep the soda cups. They also use the mobile Front Flip app which I am a big fan of.

Remember that movie; «The Fly», where the teleportation machine somehow combined the DNA of a fly and a human being. Well here it is, McDonald’s merged with a Barbeque Shack. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I ordered a big BBQ Sandwich(Sliced Beef) and a large soft drink. The two set me back about nine bucks. I skipped the sides and choose the Original Dickey’s BBQ Sauce, they also have hot and sweet. The sandwich was good, I had no problem devouring the thing. But the meat seemed to lack soul, the prideful sweat of a pitmaster if you will. Restaurant itself is reminiscent of Wendy’s, lots of yellow and red. But clearly a fast food type of atmosphere. Nothing bad about this place but it just doesn’t have that extra something to bump it up a star or two. Final word, this closes at nine so when you get a place of the booze munchies, try Taco Bell.

Texas BBQ fast food style! I must say I am new to the BBQ scene since I grew up on the east coast. So if I am overly excited about this place, well… That is why. The moment I opened the door my mouth starting watering. I took a few steps towards the counter and saw the large menu which was a bit overwhelming, but when I saw the freshly BBQed brisket on the slab my decision was made. The people behind the counter were very helpful and I think they could sense this was my first time. However it will not be my last. The sides of mac-n-cheese and Ceaser salad hit the spot and my Texas Style Brisket with cheese was scrumptous. It was nice to eat fast food with real beef. The extra BBQ sauce I got was well worth it too to smother my sandwich in. The manager deserves a pat on the back for customer service and pushing the free ice cream and the punch card program. The customer service alone deserves another visit. See you soon!

I’ve since seen that this is a chain so I’m not surprised and so I understand why it could be described as a «safe bet.» They have some sort of deal for kids, on Sundays I think so I can see it would be a good place to bring kids. I’d really like to give this place a higher rating but I just can’t. Each time I go it just misses somehow. First of all there’s way too many signs everywhere so while ordering should be really simple, it always confuses me. It’s as if everytime I visit it’s my first visit somehow. See it really makes a difference what you order. I had wanted the one meat platter but the carver suggested I get the two meats for only a dollar more, so then I had to choose a second side, which I hadn’t thought about. The macaroni and cheeses is pretty good, but I haven’t liked either the beans or the baked potato casserole. I ordered the chicken breast which looked like it was those prepared breasts and not meat off the bone. I had ordered a turkey sandwich once before, and quickly recognized that it was processed turkey reconstituted to resemble turkey slices. It didn’t taste very good and I was thus reluctant to go back. I figured the chicken would be better. It wasn’t. The«free ice cream» is soft serve vanilla, with no toppings. I’ll likely go again but not for quite some time.
