Fabulous little farm to table spot in midtown. The day we went they were under construction a bit outdoors, but the inside, though small, was a very inviting and homey environment. Long, shared plank wood tables w benches welcome you. The agave ketchup in the jar on the table is a must try, too. I had the veggie burger and HIGHLY recommend it! My bf had the regular burger and said it was really tasty, too. Fresh salad and other veggies, too. Great place. We’ll come back!

I really like Howard’s. Its right around the corner from my office and we have been several times. Their fried chicken sandwich is great as well as their griddled burger. Their homemade soups and salads are good. Solid place, nice people. Like the focus on local.

Overall a very solid place to grab lunch. Plenty of seating and street parking to accomadate getting in and out quickly. I had the burger and fries, the burger was good but needed a little more seasoning for me. The fries were the best I have had in the city, perfectly cooks and crispy. I will be back to try the remainder of the menu soon.

Fantastic neighborhood gem. Quality ingredients, excellent food and employees who seem to care… a place worth supporting. Had the burger… absolutely delicious and not your typical greasy burger. Just try it! Plenty of other intriguing menu options I’ll be back for soon!

There is so much happening here before you get your food, that the food needs to be exceptional to keep me coming back. The menu is very limited and does not appear to change daily(with the exception of soups and salad, yes singular). There are about 5 sandwiches to choose from. Don’t go with cash, they don’t take it. The reason was, «it makes accounting easier» and«if that is a problem we can probably make change» which made it feel like a huge inconvienience. A cash drawer doesn’t complicate things that much. There are a couple of community tables and bar like seating at the window. I like the idea of community seating, but watching people as we sat there, it was obviously awkward for most. A mix for those who want a more private lunch would be nice. The community table we sat at was horrible. The table top was sitting on top of an iron frame and moved easily. As people join your table it can become a game trying to eat as the table moves. One side has an uneven bench. Another disadvantage to the community idea, as others sit down you will wobble back and forth. The other side has chairs that don’t fit the table. An adult will need a booster chair and don’t even think about placing a child on that side. Another wobbly bench is needed. As you look around you notice ketchup jars on the tables are without lids. Both me and my dining buddy were put off by this. The thought of the jars sitting open all day, everyday until used wasn’t appealing. Coughing, sneezing, kids fingers, nope. The food comes out fairly quick. I tried a burger with sweet potato soup instead of fries. The burger is small. While probably the perfect lunch size, the $ 14 cost for what is a smaller portion compared to most places isn’t justified. The pickled veggies were fantastic and the burger could use a little more if them. They are barely noticeable unless you try one alone. The burger was different with each bite. Just a guess, but it seems they season a large amount of meat and then make patties instead of seasoning individually. I say this because a few bites had overwhelming seasoning while others did not making me think the seasoning was not mixed in well. At first I thought it was the picked veggies which led me to tasting one alone. It wasn’t the veggies. The sweet potato soup was OK. Nothing special that would make me return. I tried the fries from my dining pal’s plate(with a side of ketchup in a container they use for to go orders). The fries are good. Hand cut with the skins on. The ketchup is local and phenomenal. I’m not a ketchup fan, but want a jar of this at home. I would be interested in trying some of the other options, but for the price and all the quirks I would probably skip Howard’s for one of the many other great places in the Crossroads.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Howard’s! I would’ve reviewed sooner but I mistakenly stopped in on a Monday at first(FYI they’re closed on Mondays). I’ll tell you why Howard’s is necessary in the Crossroads: The menu offerings are typical of other restaurants in the area, but what makes them different is the way they’re prepared and served(not greasy and hel-lo jarred ketchup). The portion sizes don’t leave you wanting to hibernate when going back to work afterwards either. However, the girl next to me ordered the grilled cheese and soup and she had 2 grilled cheese sandwiches(bonus sammy?) I had the very decadent, juicy burger and fries. Fries left absolutely no grease residue on my plate and were seasoned perfectly. Customer service is top-notch! Though my bad luck had me attempt a Monday visit, my good luck prevailed when I came on Christmas week and everyone got a fresh, warm and super gooey chocolate chip cookie! Please stay awhile, Howard’s! I’ll be back for more!

Burgers, pickled veggies and house made American cheese? Drop the mic Howard’s. Seeing burger pictures of the new Howard’s in the east Crossroads turned into a bit of an obsession over the past few weeks. Not only did I want to check out a cool new spot, I wanted that damn burger. After trying it, I can say it was as good as I hoped it would be. Let’s start with what Howard’s is: A cool, hyper-local, smallish shop that continues to add to the beauty that is the Crossroads of KC. You’ll find re-purposed wood(the owner tells me it’s from his parents deck!) and a community style table, with another one on the way shortly to accommodate demand. There is also a market piece planned where people can buy local products like Boys Grow ketchup, produce, etc. More to come on that as it comes together. While I think the burger and fries(crispy and perfectly salted) are the star of the show, the menu also has soups and salads that sound very good. There’s enough options to choose from but it’s not overwhelming, which is nice. It’s still in the early phases here, as of December ’15. It opened recently and there is more to come, but I highly recommend popping in for a lunch or dinner if you’re in the area.

They’re trying really hard, and it’s the kind of place I like. The food was good, the staff great. But best burger in the city? Not really. It was good, and I enjoyed the fries and black tea. But if I’m gonna have a burger, I want decadent. And this wasn’t. I will try something else on the menu, and the concept is five stars. Sandwich was average, so four stars is where it landed.

Great local food in the heart of downtown Kansas City. I enjoyed a vegan veggie burger with fresh made fries. The veggie burger is a must try. The bun was not vegan so I had to request gluten free bread which also happens to be vegan. The place is small with limited seating; however, this adds to the charm in my opinion.

Hands down the best veggies burger I’ve had in a while-rm 39 is a favorite of mine and this topped it! Side of greens instead of fries were perfectly dressed and delicious as well– oh and the house made pickles, yum… friendly and fast, amazing lunch. Will be back for sure.

What a find, when we needed it the most! Discovered Howard’s after Royals World Series Parade and so glad we did. I had the best veggie burger I have ever had and I have had my fair share. Boys had burgers with homemade cheese and even these two pickies raved about their sandwich & buns. Fries were devine and we will be going back sooner than later. Loved the farm table seating and was the perfect lunch on a perfect day. Thsnk you Howard’s.

First visit. Everything was perfect. Joint is small but clean and the décor is refreshingly simple and modern. Community farm table concept with additional barstool seating against walls. No wait staff. The simple but appetizing menu is written on a large chalk board. You order at the counter, they give you a number(like Culver’s only a little more quaint a marker), and they deliver your order to the table. And before I forget, no cash purchases(credit or debit — not sure about Apple Pay) and, on trend, the tip is included in the bill. Now to the food, I ordered the burger with a side of buttery greens. Absolutely delicious — just the right amount of food(took ½ of burger home) with fresh toppings on the burger(think pea shoots, pickled radishes and onions) and a really nice light vinaigrette on the greens. Co diner tried the veggie burger and fries. Enjoyed both(fries are very good). Other co diner had salad with farm fresh hard cooked eggs, marinated and dehydrated eggplant strips, and other fresh ingredients. Give Howard’s a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing burger and homemade soda. Thumbs up for Boys Grow Ketchup. Very small joint, so don’t tell anyone else :)
