My favorite salsa and margs. Always friendly service. Had Megan tonight and I have a new favorite. We always enjoy ourselves but we had an extra good time with Megan. Thanks so much Megan.

This is our must stop for Mexican food. Their tamales are the best ever. Service was great, drinks were wonderful, food was delicious. Their tamales have huge chunks of tender and flavorful pork that literally melt in your mouth.

Will not be going back and we didn’t even get to order food. Showed up with our kids on Friday eve and knew it would be busy. They told us 15 min so we decided to stay. That was at 7:40. Left at 8:20 with kids crying because they are so hungry. They told us we were next on the list but at this point no one was going to enjoy themselves and we didnt want to wait another 30 min for food. Sorry Jalepenos, so not impressed. I understand friday is busy but don’t lie to me about the time! Wish we could’ve had a better family dinner. Instead we had to drive through Mcdonalds.

It’s best to go here with really low expectations. I live in the neighborhood and eat here often. Chips and salsa are pretty good. Margaritas are average. Tacos are excellent. Enchiladas are not very good. Everything else is just ok. Good location. That’s why I go here. Try Ponaks if you want excellent margaritas and really good food.

Great restaurant! Great service and cheese dip had a kick to it. It is an authentic hole in the wall that still caters to the Tex-mex crowd. Margaritas eh but haven’t found a great margarita in kC yet.

My self esteem has been high this year. I thought I was grown up and making good decisions. Then it happened. «Let’s go to Jalapeños», I said. I don’t know who I am anymore. This was our first time here, so we didn’t know what to expect. I have had good experiences at most of the restaurants in the area, and a friend(who is never to be trusted again) gave the recommendation, so we had moderately high hopes. There was a line out the door. That has to be a good sign, right? The host was rude but I just figured she was probably frustrated dealing with the mobs of people wanting subpar«Mexican» food. Let’s give her a pass. Well, they wouldn’t seat us until our whole party got there… even though our table was sitting there for a long time with chips and dip and we were ready to order some margaritas while we wait for our friends. Actually, come to think of it, there were several empty tables we(or the other poor souls huddled into the coat corner) could have sat at… why the heck was there a huge line and wait? Anyway, our friends come and rib us about our awful restaurant choice. And they all mention how rude the host was. And I look around at the décor and wonder how I could have made such a bad choice. Who am I? Am I bad person? Should I reevaluate my life? If I thought this was a good idea, what other poor choices have I made? So our server comes and he actually wasn’t bad. It’s not his fault that his place of employment is so crummy. But just looking at the menu made me want to leave. I should have. They have a large section of the menu devoted to hamburgers/fries/chicken nuggets/etc… There’s a part of the menu that literally says«healthy choices: Hamburger». What the hell is «Taco Monday»? Why do I feel like this was built for the set of some crappy sitcom? Let’s move on. No one in my party likes their food. It was actually pretty expensive. I felt bad for our waiter because he was actually trying and we were probably uncharacteristically bad customers to him, due to the bad experience we were having. If I had to pay over $ 20 a person for some of the worst food I’ve had all year, I’m going to get SOMETHING out of it. So here it is: a new perspective on life. Whenever you see that an awful song is at the top of the charts, or that a horrible television show is watched by millions of people and you think to yourself«just who the heck are these millions of people with bad taste?»…just walk into Jalapeños and look around at the packed restaurant and the line out the door. What the heck are you doing, America?

We moved to Houston 6 years ago and still can’t find a Tex-Mex restaurant that even comes close to this place. Every time we’re in KC we MUST eat here! From their chip-dip sauce to their full meals, this is THE best place. The servers are always friendly and efficient. The parking can be a bit of a pain, so prepare to possibly walk a little way; it’s worth it!

Regular Mexican food. Easy service. Decent salsa and chips. Just nothing super different or righteous that it makes it a *must go* place.

I’m going w 4 stars today simply bc I had a phenomenal dish the jalapeño dip burrito with grilled pork and black beans is out of this world in fact id 5 star it up if it weren’t for the fact that the tacos are so grease ridden they are inedible to me. My kid loves them tho

I worked in the area and would often frequent this restaurant, but it has been over 20 years since my last visit. My husband and I wanted a pork burrito, but didn’t want to drive too far so we elected to go to Jalapenos. We were both impressed with the service we received. The chips and salsa were outstanding and far exceeded our expectation. In fact, they were far better than the Mexican restaurant we frequent most often. The mild salsa with a little of hotter salsa was delicious. Chips were served warm and we could have made a meal of them, but resisted doing so since we had more food coming. Now, about the food. We both ordered the pork burrito and sides of soupy beans and refried beans. If we could, we would give this restaurant over a 5+ rating for both the service and the food. We won’t wait another 20 years to return, for sure.

I really like their variety of salsas and they usually have good service. The skinny margarita was pretty good, a little watered down but of course, I still drank it. :) Parking and bathrrooms can be a little questionable, but that’s probably more to do with the neighborbood than anything else. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

I eat here occasionally. I was so excited for taco Tuesday ! No, wait, they have Taco Monday’s! I missed it– 2 for 1tacos on Mondays– now back to Tuesday. Fajita Tuesday(I know) is what I found on Tuesday — so I went for it. I enjoyed the dish– hot sauce and drinks. Service very nice ! The fajitas were tasty for $ 10.50.

I had checked this place out years ago, probably before I was even on Unilocal, but hadn’t been back. As Tex-Mex goes, it’s pretty run of the mill. Not out of this world, not bad, but not anything I’d travel to if not in the area. As it turns out, it’s close to my spouse’s workplace, so, we were in the area. An almost half-hour wait(they’d said 15 – 20), which is weird for a Thursday night, but whatever. Evidently, people were into the night’s enchilada special, maybe? People, from hostess to servers, were really pleasant and service was thorough and prompt, beyond the initial wait. The salsa’s really good, server said it’s made in-house daily. Chips were warm, thin and crispy, and salty, and kept coming. My husband and FIL had taco salads, and said they were decent. I got fish tacos. You can get grilled tilapia ones, but I abhor tilapia and went for the battered cod, instead. Good cabbage slaw in the tacos, and they were served with a creamy avocado sauce that was nice… The presentation was a little messy, as the tacos were placed kind of ON the bed of refried beans and rice, which made the soft shells pretty messy to handle and eat neatly. But everything was hot and fresh. Refried beans and rice were not too memorable, but the tacos tasted great and were really filling.

Another wonderful meal here last Sunday night. Love their chicken tostada — the chicken enchilada was perfect for lunch the next day!

No, this isn’t truly ‘Mexican’ food, it’s Tex-Mex, and that’s fine by me. This place is in a strip mall across from a Price Chopper and looks pretty unremarkable from the outside. Isn’t it interesting how often some of the best restaurants are some of the most ordinary looking ones?! I’m a sucker for beautiful décor, but I also enjoy when the money is spent more on the food– which it obviously is here at Jalapeño’s, because the food is very good and very fresh. The menu is big and everything my family has tried here has been great. Like several other people have mentioned, the complimentary salsa is amaaaaaazing. It’s smooth and puréed and has just the right amount of heat. There are daily specials– we love going on Tuesdays for the Fajita special. Around $ 10 for a ton of food. You will definitely take home leftovers. This is a popular spot, so it’s fairly crowded and loud– I wouldn’t go for an intimate date night. But if you want yummy food in a family friendly environment with great service at a good price, Jalapeño’s is a great option.

Oh, Sunday night bartender! I’ll never forget your glorious mutton chops, or forgive myself for failing to remember your name. You kept the salsa and tequila flowing like your ponytail in the wind. Your infectiously fun(but oh-so-chill) attitude kicked our party of two up to a full blown fiesta. Seriously dude. My guy and I might have been making out at your bar all night, but we’re both kindof in love with you. Also in love with your salsa. And your queso. The food is here is unbeatable. And pro tip: to take a chimichanga to the next level, pour the hot white cheese dip(when you’re finished using it on chips) all over it. Thank me later.

This was not a top pick for me, just happened to be in the area. The true test of a great Mexican restaurant for me is how good their tacos are, and they do have decent tacos, but I’ll try to remember to ask for no green onions next time. They were a bit overpriced for my book, seeing as my favorite mexican lunch spot(Rudy’s if you were wondering) has lunches that are under $ 7, I paid almost $ 9 for 1 taco, 1 chicken enchilada and a side of rice. I could have gotten a Whole Dinner at Rudy’s for that price. Overall if I am in the neighborhood again and craving Mexican I might stop by and get 1 taco(They are $ 3, so 1 would do it for me!)
