My new favorite Kansas city HAPPYHOUR and quality is not skimped on. $ 5 Old Fashioned that are perfect. 25% off food that’s absolutely stunning. Cornbread gnocchi with purple potato wins my blue ribbon in taste, presentation and creativity. Crostini trio was just plain tasty. Well done chef on nailing a perfect summer menu. I do not know who decked this place out but it is ONPOINT. Trendy, modern with a great bridge to a rich deep south feel. Evenings have a subtle sensual atmosphere that I would absolutely vouch for as a date destination. Impressive bourbon and whiskey collection, with shelves of bottles to the ceiling and stretching the length of the bar. Bar men often scale the ladder to retrieve desired spirit. Sitting at the bar is some classy entertainment with fun witty banter. Staff are personable and trained expertly at their craft. Their Julep as are most of their concoctions are drinkable art. As far as my love of Westport goes it’s just deepened, even if parking can be rough I’ve always found a spot.

Tough to find but well worth finding it! I did not get to eat because I did not come here to eat. I Came for a craft cocktail… Cutie pie in a vest and tie served it up!!! Yes he did! Both the Sazerac and the Manhattan., simply lovely. Trained well on how to season the glass, gentle stir and even strip the lemon peel. Loved it. I would have ordered food but not nearly as extensive as the 100+ whiskey options. It’s cool … I enjoyed two well made, well deserved craft cocktails! See you next trip back to MO!

Julep mixes perfect cocktails. Consistent, balanced, smooth and still interesting. I’ve been here several times now and have enjoyed each visit. Although paying $ 10-$ 13 for a single drink seems like madness, they are just that good. My mom is a big fan of the Monarch, a smooth upscale take on a Manhattan. I really like the Garden & Gun, a summery, light gin drink. The small bites are tasty and complement the drinks well. The service has been excellent on all visits. The perfectly groomed bartenders don’t hurt either. One question though, why are there specials every night of the week except Tuesday? I guess nothing’s perfect.

Shelves and shelves of liquor heaven! House made Cucumber vodka was so tasty. Expect to pay for their specialty made cocktails but they are so tasty. Great place for a special night pre or post dinner cocktail.

Very cute spot with great ambiance. Low lighting makes this place a great spot for a romantic date. The drink options are pretty limited, but there seems to be a little something for everyone here. The service is so-so, with our waiter basically dropping off drinks and then ignoring us. We each only had one glass of wine, and even though we selected different items from the menu, we both talked about how they were mediocre. I didn’t even drink all of mine. I’m not sure if this is how their drinks are across the board, or if we just made two bad choices. The music could also use an upgrade. I heard several songs that were played at my senior year homecoming dance, which brought the lol’s, but didn’t set the mood or go with the ambience.

Decent mixology if you don’t mind the fact that this is KC and they act like its Manhattan. Decent whiskey selection though really when you look for a bit it’s kinda standard plus some A+s… All in all if you’re from MWKY has much better whiskey bars… Sorry y’all!

Since I’m only allowed to do an overall rating, I think this place needs more of a breakdown than a 3⁄5 stars. Drink quality/taste/potency: 5⁄5 stars! Drink price: 3⁄5 stars — The drinks are pricey and I do not recommend drinking here all night, unless your wallet is as thick as a brick, especially since Westport is right outside their establishment, but I get that it’s a specialty place and the whisky is brewed in-house. So that’s pretty cool. Food: 4⁄5 stars — I recommend any of their appetizers Ambiance: 3⁄5 stars — I feel like it has a nice romantic/date vibe to it, but it’s not overtly rustic or unique given that it is a unique place to KC. Staff: 3⁄5 stars — I came in with my date and we were seated within 5 – 10 minutes, albeit the place wasn’t packed. The server was friendly, but he took his time with us and the drinks took forever, but I think he took exception because he was attentive after our food had arrived.

I’ve been to Julep several times, most recently on a visit back to KC. Overall, I haven’t been completely blown away by this place, but the cocktails are delicious and unique, and the ambiance is trendy and cool. The popcorn is also excellent! Be aware, though, that both the cocktails and other drinks that are not listed on the menu are pretty expensive. My friend paid $ 8 for a vodka cran!

Most recently, my boyfriend and I came here on a Monday night for drinks and food. My boyfriend has bartended for over 10 years, so when he’s impressed by their drinks, that speaks volumes! I prefer coming here on a weekday rather than a weekend night. The atmosphere is more relaxing. We sat at the bar. Our bartender wasn’t exactly ‘friendly’, but he more than made up for that in how well he crafted our drinks. It was definitely entertaining to watch! I ordered Dr. Bunsen which was absolutely delicious — loved the cucumber infused vodka and subtle hint of honeydew. Bartender suggested Horse Feathers for my boyfriend, since he wanted a simple drink. That was also pretty tasty. As for food, we ordered truffle fries, baked mac & cheese, and steak frites. The truffle fries were overseasoned(too salty); mac & cheese was underseasoned; but the steak was perfect. They didn’t ask for a meat temperature, and the steak came out medium which is fine. We were given complimentary lemondrop shots which had absinthe in it. That was a nice touch!

London calling is amazing! Definitely can go to your head very easy, take it slow. Usually pretty crowded as it is smaller and intimate. I noticed they now have a new food menu, i’m eager to try it soon. Great for date night!

I’ve been to Julep a handful of times now and have yet to leave wow-ed by my experience. The table service is hit or miss. This last time I went the waitress was really slow and inattentive. The drinks are amazing, but soooo expensive. The deviled eggs are my favorite thing on the menu.

My husband & I were looking for a spot to celebrate good news with a nice drink and a bite to eat-service was outstanding-we are not so young, but appreciate that we weren’t discriminated against because of that. I think at first the server may have wanted to rush us-he wanted us to order food before our first round of drinks arrived. After that was cleared up all was well. Food game strong-we shared the wedge salad, crab cakes and meat & cheese platter. All were outstanding. Drinks were on point-whiskey sour, old fashioned and a special Manhattan with fig was the bomb. Drinks are spendy-similar to what we find in NYC-but worth every dime. Really nice play list-NCAA tourney on tv was okay too. One complaint-the trash can in the ladies room was overflowing with paper towels. Someone needs to empty it! But-cant wait to go back. Five out of five. Would recommend!

WHISKYTANGOFOXTROT! I can’t believe I haven’t been to this place until recently. I’ve been a fool! I love this place! For all you whisky lovin’ MF! Get heart eyes for this lovely gem! The food here is great too… Now, I would suggest coming here to have drinks and finger food. One does not enjoy a good whisky cocktail with a meal that will weight you down! Deviled Eggs, is a must! Low country crab dip… YASSPLEASE! Meat and cheese plate is pretty dang good! with the pickled veggies. Can I get an hell yeah? I would say the food is pricey for the amount, but it’s worth it. Their whisky collection is very impressive and their bartenders are very skilled. I also love the fact that they traditionally stir old fashions! That right there is an A+ in my books! And their whisky sours with egg whites, I’m very impressed that my bartender made it correctly! A lot of place would look at me oddly when I request to have eggwhites in my cocktail…(c’mon guys it’s great for breakfast too! lol) The drink pricings are average, most people will say it’s expensive, in which I tell them«Have you been to Manifesto? okay shut up!» Definitely will see me back here more in the summer!

I like the location, the décor, the scene and the fact that they do scotch like a mofo. I don’t like going to a scotch/whisky/whiskey bar, getting no table service for over 30 minutes and having to order at the bar for a drink that should cost $ 14 end up going for $ 25. As quirky as this is, it’s really annoying that such an upcharge is accompanied by watching the bartender use a measuring cup for a scotch where the markup is so high that they’ve paid for their bottle in two standard pours, and then some. Yeah, everyone’s trying to make a buck and I appreciate that… but come on… drinks are the cash-cow of a business and happy drinkers tend to spend more. Not how I’d run a business, but it’s not my business to run. Good luck. Not a place to go for after dinner drinks.

The ambiance of this place is… Magical! Very Gatsby-esque Elegance! It’s a great place for a chill night with friends. We came for their cocktail hour(3−6pm) and they have a great selection! My friend had a holiday themed drink that was fantastic, but unfortunately I have not been much of a drinker lately so I just took a sip. I ordered the: Sausage Gumbo(andouille sausage, burger’s bacon, okra, rice) –Omg this was delicious. It tasted more like chili rather than gumbo, but it is a perfect dish for the fall. Despite it being happy hour… they gave me a huge bowl of gumbo and crackers to eat with it. Definitely worth it for so cheap! I love how they didn’t skimp out on the sausages and had huge pieces of it in the gumbo. Low Country Crab Dip(lump crab, lemon, aioli) –FRESHANDFULLOFCRAB! Usually crab dishes around Kansas City give you small little pieces… Julep definitely does not skimp out on anything. The dish came with huge chunks of crab and it was sooooo good with their crackers. Great dish to share with friends. Hushpuppies(pimento cheese, creole remoulade) –Definitely not your hushpuppies from Long John Silvers. It wasn’t greasy and it was full of flavor with a crispy round exterior :) I will definitely have to come back and try the rest of the menu! I was so full from these three dishes that I couldn’t order more! I will have to try their steak tartare next time! BTW props to Julep for having excellent service on top of a magical atmosphere that screams classy yet modernly casual for us 20 somethings to hang out at! :)

Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about Julep. I should like the place a lot — the atmosphere is classy and gentlemanly, the drinks are decent(if pricey), and the staff is friendly and gets to know their clientele. So, theoretically, this place must be pretty good. And yet it’s missing something. I’m not quite sure what it is — but there is just something not right going on here, at least to me.(Maybe I’m not the right demo for the place either.) I hesitate to use the word«hipster» to describe the place, because that word has some pretty awful connotations to it. Yet — that IS the best way to describe it — it just feels slightly pretentious and awkward. It feels like it doesn’t want to be the place where college students end up getting trashed on Saturday nights… but that’s what ends up happening. I’ll simply sum it up by saying that it’s for somebody — but it’s not for me.

One of my favorite bars in KC/Westport hands down! Now I’m not a big Whiskey drinker… I’m not a whiskey person in general but my husband is so we decided to check it out, I love introducing him to new whiskey bars. Julep is a small, intimate bar that seats about 50 and offers 1 screen projector, with 3 – 4 bartenders or shall I say mixologists. Each taking the time and effort to crafting each drink they serve. It’s a bar to go to if you just want a one-on-one conversation with your significant other/friend and a place to enjoy a drink or 2. They mainly serve whiskey and they have library full of them from all over the country. They also serve other non whiskey drinks as well which is where I come in. I wanted to try something different so I decided to take a risk on the One Big Holiday… my first sip I was in heaven. It was probably one of the best things I’ve ever had. It literally reminded of drinking some eggnog over a lit fireplace on a snowy Christmas day. It had just the right sweetness and alcohol content to it with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon… yum yum. These, I’m pretty sure they’re mixologist(?) really know their stuff! My husband had the orient express which is a tasting of 3 different whiskeys, 2 for Japan and 1 from India. He loved them all! Julep also offers a variety of appetizers, large portions that can be mistaken as a meal. We’ve had the hush puppies, low country crab dip, and deviled eggs. Needless to say none of them disappoint. The crab dip was light and airy as well as the hush puppies. All were fresh and prepared accordingly. They were indeed one of the best appetizers we’ve had. Julep, it’s a place to enjoy hand crafted, delicate drinks and whiskey. I wouldn’t recommend bringing your obnoxious sports fanatic friends… Westport Ale House is down the road for that. See you soon, Julep!

The place is called Julep, so it’s not like I’m gonna go with a Tequila Sunrise.(Not that I would anyway.) Except when I did opt for the Julep, it was… well, horrible. Sickly sweet and um, hey, where’s the booze? Everyone else at the table had the same reaction, so we all just went with something we knew’d be tasty: a beer and a shot of whiskey. I mean, the place has loads of whiskey varieties, so why not take advantage of that? Just stick with the basics(i.e., no mixed cocktails) and you’re sorted.

I’m inclined to say this is my favorite bar in town — classy place, good drinks, great bartenders, and a welcoming environment. Their cocktail menu constantly changes, so it’s always a surprise to see what’s being offered. I like The Tempest and their citrus themed drinks. They have a good looking happy hour, which I have yet to try.

I love this place because I love cocktail bars and this place does it well. Ambience & décor, neighborhood, service, and the cocktail. I had the Kiowa cooler during happy hour, it’s a watermelon mojito. So refreshing. I think I would like more mint. So 4 stars. But it did give me the perfect tasty buzz. Love the neighborhood alley that it’s located in. And the décor and the music selection made for a jivin’ good time. My type of music… Oldies, funk, and a little bit of Michael Jackson. Next time I’m in KC I will definitely try to return. Thanks for the service boys :) Recommend!
