I am so confused by this place. It has a four star rating, lots of pictures of fried chicken, and an awesome interior. We(2 of us) showed up at 6 pm and increased the patrons to a whopping 3 people. Staff was standoffish. We ordered cocktails that were really good. We asked the bartender, a waiter, and also the Manager what they recommend. All three told us they had not really tried much of the food. On a couple of items we were told they were nothing like you would expect or how it was described on the menu. OK. We were also told on a couple of instances that«it’s good but it depends on the night. Some nights are good, some are horrible.» OK. I asked about the fried chicken that is all over their reviews and was told it as no longer on the menu because it is bad. OK. I ordered a beer after my cocktail. All taps were pouring nothing but foam. The pork nachos were good. The chicken sandwich was ok. The Greek salad was tiny. The interior is cool. But… I am so confused by this place. I am happy I tried something new, but disappointed this is the restaurant occupying this space.

I know, I know. Large groups of 16 people are never welcome @ bars. But… menu items on the«new» menu weren’t available. We were charged more for ordering a whiskey«neat» that was no more than 1.5 ounces(a shot). We were charged for drinks that weren’t received. The food– the 3 lamb sliders are approximately 1×1×1 inches of tough lamb(comes with fourteen French fries that were good), ribs are NOT true to Kansas City BBQ or Korean or Texan or microwaved BBQ(more jerky than KC ribs). Standard bowling alley fare. Server was alright and good at handling all the complaints. Substandard pour!

My brunch at The Standard Pour was very… well…standard. It reminded me of a continental breakfast at a hotel. The bacon was floppy, the biscuits and gravy were average and the potatoes were mushy instead of crispy. Kansas City has a strong brunch game and I hoped this place would meet the bar set by some other great brunch spots but, unfortunately, it did not.

In my other review I originally gave standard pour 5 stars. I loved the quality, it’s location near my house and everything else. I frequented Standard pour when it first opened almost once a week, but I keep having experiences that leave a bad taste. My most recent experience I heard that had a new brunch menu on Saturdays and Sunday’s. After seeing a few good reviews for it, I figured I’d give Standard another shot. Which I regret, And I feel like I wasted 13 dollars. (See photo) ordered Standard Breakfast, comes with eggs, potatoes, bacon, and biscuits and gravy. The menu said 13 dollars but I ended up being charged ten. Potatoes were wedged shaped, and rock hard under cooked. The biscuit was almost inedible doughy, the gravy tastes extremely chicken-y to me? Which I assume is from chicken stock when making it. The THINNEST bacon I’ve ever had in my life. I didn’t know it came that thin. Also I’m pretty positive the bacon was microwaved? See photo I’ve never had bacon so limp. Eggs one large egg patty(ordered scrambled) which looked almost like an omelet due to it being flipped once. Save yourself, drive two minutes up the street to first watch

This was my first restaurant for RW and sadly I was disappointed. There was a party of 5 and some of us got the 1 ping wing but I got the crab cake. I had a little bite of it but nothing beats Gram and Duns pig wings. The crab cake was a bit mushy for my liking but not horrible. I opted for the fried chicken(2 pieces) which was nicely cooked. It was served with mashed potatoes and also a little bit of spinach. Ended with the apple fritter which looked like a beef patty but did taste better than it looked. I was expecting the food to be amazing but I was just a bit let down with this place. Just really wasn’t what I was expecting but I guess that’s my fault for not doing more research on the place before making the reservation. My recommendation: Go to a different restaurant for RW that’ll give you a better dining experience.

Let me start out by saying that our waiter, Rolland, was attentive and pleasant(I was a part of a party of 7 on a Friday night)! This was my first time here and I specifically went because of Restaurant Week KC. Let’s just say, money for food can be spent better elsewhere. Ideally, Restaurant Week is suppose to help draw in locals to sample great food for a great cause and price. If you compared what they were offering you on its RW menu, you literally were saving a whopping $ 1. MAYBE $ 2 but they’ll insist and inform you that you are getting a «deal.» Tricksters. (example: Thai Pig Wings is originally $ 14 for 3 pieces, if you were to order it on the RW menu, you get ONE wing = ~$ 5)). They don’t make this noticeable and won’t actually inform you unless you ask specifically. Aside from that, the food was honestly not that great at all. Very bland, flavorless and aggressively mediocre. The only thing I really enjoyed was the dessert(Potato Apple Fritters!). For it’s standard pricing, I’d highly recommend to hop over to Bluestem’s bar food or even The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange instead.

Both of my experiences at Standard Pour have been for brunch, so I can’t speak to the food or service at happy hour or dinner. My experiences at brunch have been consistent, for better or worse. The servers have been friendly and check in often. The food has been good, enjoyable. The wait for the food has been slow, regardless of if the place is busy or not. I recommend the belinis, they are very delicious, and the perfect brunch drink. The croquet madame is also very good. My friend had the brunch burger and said that it was good. One quirky incident, another friend asked for a side salad instead of potatoes, and the server said that they don’t do salads. Then she came back and said that her chef was in a «good mood», and can indeed substitute a salad. I thought the delivery of that news was… interesting. Anyway, I love this space, I think there is a lot of potential here, but the wait for food is very long, so be sure you plan on having a couple of cocktails while you wait. Also, if dining for brunch, we saw several orders of chicken and waffles come out of the kitchen and it looked amazingly delicious.

I really, REALLY wanted to like this place! It’s right up the street from my husband work not to mention less than a 5 minute walk from our home. I’ve been waiting for them to hit their stride before writing a review, but this last visit was just too much. First a few points: 1) this is a hard location, far enough from both the heart of Westport and 39th street to be considered part of either of those neighborhoods 2) they have changed their menu more times than I can count. Their style of french fry has changed 4 times alone. Not a make or break, but it just goes to show how confused the establishment is 3) speaking of french fries, they can only be ordered at the bar… so if you’re at a table with 5 other people ordering food and drinks and you want to add a side of fries you’ll need to walk yourself to the bar to do so(this is just ridiculous)… 6 of us decided to go out to Standard Pour for food/drinks on Friday night. When we first arrived it was lively but no way full. After we had our drink orders in a large party showed up — not 5 minutes later our food order was in. Drink arrived and we waited for food, and waited and waited. All 5 food orders were appetizers — a crab cake, three different orders for Thai Pig Wings(one for one, one for two and one for three) and the Not Your Standard Egg, BA. The crab cake came out mostly fine(took longer than usual, but nothing crazy) and then we continued to wait as every other table in the restaurant got their food before we did. When we spoke with the server we got mostly excuses like«well there is a large table that came in» or just plainly«it’s the kitchen’s fault» — an hour and 15 minutes after we arrived the«wings» finally made it to the table. The manager came over, apologized and gave those who ordered food the employee discount to make up it. We then realized that the egg appetizer never arrived and we were short one wing(the person who ordered it was in the restroom when the«wings» came out.) We asked the server about the egg and he said that they had run out of them right before we got the«wings» — BUTHEFAILEDTOMENTIONTHISWHENHEBROUGHTOUTTHEFOOD! The manager was called over once again and we got a few baskets of fries for the«trouble»… Look, I know there are kinks when an establishment first opens and I get there is a grace period for these kinks, BUT everyone was a part of the awful evening we had. The server was unresponsive and had poor communication, the kitchen didn’t send out food according to the time it was rung up and the manager couldn’t keep any of it straight. This isn’t the first bad experience here, but it’ll be my last. I just can’t get behind this place…

The atmosphere of The Standard Pour is very nice. I’ve been to this place a few times now and have never been disappointed. When you walk through the front door, your greated by the bartender whom is always a delight to sit and chat with. I love their 5 $ happy hour menu(I’m a huge fan of their Thai pig wings). The Bistro filet with whipped potatoes & Roasted Brussel sprouts is out of this world! Leave your steak knife at home because everything is butter knife friendly and oh so good. They also have a great beer and coctail menu. I usually get the Cinder Block Ipa. It has a beautiful color and a great flavor. So if your ever on your way to Westport but would like to have a beautiful dinner in a really nice classy little place, stop on in and give this place a go. You’ll not be disappointed.

So excited to have a new, creative restaurant in Westport. The location is off the main street, but definitely worth the visit. Note to file, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant off the alley, so don’t fret if you can’t park on the street in front. When we arrived there were only a few patrons in the restaurant(on a Saturday night). I was not worried, since I had read great reviews. Our server was phenomenal; great food and drink knowledge and perfectly timed meal. We enjoyed the pig wings for an appetizer; do yourself a favor and just order them, they are delicious! I had the shrimp wrap which was by far the best wrap I have ever enjoyed — bacon wrapped shrimp, yummy. Hubby enjoyed a special chicken sandwich that the chef prepared, since the menu offering was sold out. Again, an amazing treat! Although the Restaurant didn’t get very busy for a Saturday night, we knew we had found a diamond in the rough. Just saw that Standard Pour got ranked in the top restaurants for 2015 — much deserved and obviously we aren’t alone in feeling that it was a hidden gem. Now I just hope that we can still get in on a Saturday night!

First off, the food here is amazing. Seriously, I can’t rave about it enough. For a starter, try the soft pretzel. Now ubiquitous, the Standard Pour’s pretzels are the best I’ve ever had, hands down. The white queso dip comes with house-made pale ale mustard, uniquely squiggled on top. The combination with warm, fluffy salted pretzels is so satisfying. For an entrée, try the Bolt, a thick, crunchy sandwich loaded with bacon and tomatoes. And as far as brews go, Standard Pour has a nice selection of draft beers, as well as craft bottles and cans. KC Bier Company’s Hefeweizen is on tap and is very refreshing on a warm autumn’s day. 1511 Westport Rd., Kansas City, MO64111, 816.531.7687. Great service. Our server was awesome. I love that they had a decent wine list. I was impressed by the goat cheese and sundried tomato bread. Loved the atmosphere. Busy but not super crowded and loud. Perfect place for a night cap. Had several glasses of the Chardonnay which was very good. Definitely will be back. Great way to end a good night.

Went in for happy hour this evening with my husband. Very nice bartender, great atmosphere, lots of tvs for sports fans, great drinks, lots of local beer on tap, and great food. We had the crab cake, garlic fries, and thai pig wings. MUSTHAVETHETHAIPIGWINGS. Those are amazing and will keep me coming back. I think next time we will try dinner or Sunday brunch. Good location just to the west of Westport.

Ok I just had salad. I had a perfect salad. Warm fall salad I am in love with. I don’t always take photos of food but this was almost too pretty to eat. Tasted like it looks. Go here. Promise.

Wow, this place took me by surprise. I wasn’t going there for dinner. It was actually only 4:00 when I showed up with a colleague. We were really just having a quick happy hour before we had to work into the evening. I just wanted 2 glasses of wine and a HH snack. At first glance of their drink menu I was a little disappointed as I HATE brown colored alcohols. All of them. I know it is the trend but… So I ordered a moscow mule while I was looking over the menu, which I hear from the excellent staff changes all of the time. None of the HH starter really grabbed be so I ordered the Bistro steak dinner(only $ 18). This is the 2nd best meal I’ve had in this city since I went to Novel. Really, the chef here is amazing. The food was like what you would get at a much higher priced restaurant. I will be back for sure probably even this week. This is the best bargain in town. I don’t often spend $ 18 for a dinner but this is like a $ 27 dollar plate for $ 18. My colleague had the crab cake and the chicken noodle soup. Both were excellent. This place should be packed way beyond Brunch. Bravo to the chef and staff!!!

I’ve been here twice — once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times were excellent in terms of service as well as food and cocktails. I do hope other people start discovering this new neighborhood gem because I want them to stick around. As mentioned by others, the pork shank appetizer is fantastic. It has a crispy outside and slides right off the bone — way more meat that what you get in a typical chicken wing. The biscuits and jam is also delicious — they’re made slightly flatter than normal which gives them an unusual crunch. Jam was freshly made — peach as well as elderberry. The entrees we’ve tried were the burger, the bacon-wrapped shrimp wrap, and the 72 hour fried chicken & mashed potatoes. You can’t go wrong with any of them — so, so good. For dinner we wanted to prolong the experience, despite being very full, and ordered the root beer float and peach cobbler(which uses the same biscuit dough). The chef came out and talked to us awhile — he’s working on brewing his own root beer and vanilla for future floats. The staff also said they’re working on a new fall menu as well as adding brunch(yay!). I’m putting this restaurant in heavy rotation.

We were on the way to McCoy’s — a solid place for beer and burgers — but then realized that a new place even closer had opened so we thought we’d give it a try! I had only been to the classy but woefully sleepy Boozefish Wine Bar(the previous tenant) once and was pleased that the interior still looked nice. When I go out I like to drink beer on tap and found a very adequate selection of microbrews to choose from — I went with the Boulevard The Calling IPA, which was a lighter, more citrous-flavored replacement for the very rich Doublewide IPA. I was pleased with my choice though it took several minutes to obtain! I ordered the Standard Burger and although not extraordinarily cheap at $ 12, it was outstanding and included a very tasty side of fries. Nice! So far the experience had been 4.5 stars — so what the hell happened? Well… Our server was friendly and professional without being overbearing, and that can be hard to find. He was working as hard as he possibly could but the problem was… he was the only one working, at least on the dining floor! The man who seemed to be the owner seemed to prefer to sit around chewing the fat instead of helping his one server — at least that was the impression that I got and it wasn’t a good one. As a result we waited over TWENTY minutes for our check… NOT a good way to end a dining experience. If I didn’t live so close to the place and didn’t have a conscience I would have considered making a run for it – I’m no Usain Bolt but I think I could have outrun anyone in there. Too bad. This place seemed to have potential at first but something must have gone south. I was hoping that somebody from the restaurant would reach out to me regarding my concerns and invite me to try them again, but this never happened. There are better, cheaper options even in this area so I need not worry!

The food here is outstanding and not what you’d expect at all. The Thai pigs wings, grilled prawn, cheese fries, and fresh bread sticks with dipping sauce were recommended by the owner. My go to beer(Stiegl Radler) was on the beer menu, too. The chef was incredibly accommodating to my date and I to make sure we enjoyed our appetizers. The owner, David, stopped by and personalized our visit. We also got to watch the All Star game on the big screen TVs, in comfort. Yes, I’d go back. I feel like I made new friends and my picky palate was so happy!

The Standard Pour opened today after porch fest for drinks and food sampling. The place looks great: clean sight lines, lots of tvs(not in a tacky or overdone way), a classic almost swanky aesthetic, a beautiful nearly century old back bar(that is a welcome keepsake from the location dating back almost to prohibition I overheard), and the place features a lovely back patio for smokers dogs and just people who like outside. Food wise today was just a sampling but looks good so far. Thai pork wings, 72 hour fried chicken, ruben, and the mushroom dip were ONPOINT! From what I understand Chef Joe Shirley has something to do with the kitchen… Not sure really but what we tried was excellent. The drinks are solid, they have a big selection of beer and bourbon which is a winner for my taste. I was there yesterday when they were just drinks, and both occasions were just swell. Really looking forward to seeing the place at full steam with a full menu could be a new Kansas City gem!
