The first time I came here, they gave me champagne and cupcakes. It was a 5 star experience. Now that I’ve returned, no longer blinded by the glitz of free booze and sugar, I can say that visiting Re: purpose is a 4 star experience. But not necessarily for the reasons you might expect. The merchandise at this First Weekends-only antique store is… alright. There’s some nice-enough stuff, but I’d say the majority of it doesn’t particularly interest me. That may have something to do with me not being in their target demo, however. I can recognize that they have quality goods, but it’s just nothing that I would ever in a million years dream of purchasing. I see it appealing to suburban ladies. That doesn’t sound much like a 4 star review, does it? Well two categories make me officially a fan. First: the staff. There are always a ton of people working here, and they are clearly marked. If you need help, you never have to spend much time finding somebody to give you assistance. Plus they’re friendly, and friendly is good. Second: I REALLY love this building! One of my favorite things about the First Weekends antique markets as a whole are the old buildings you get to tour. I get a kick walking through these old buildings and imagining what they may have been like 100 years ago. This is particularly fun at Re: purpose when you go into the basement. I imagine speakeasies, bootleggers and maybe the occasional occult sacrifice? Who knows, I have an over-active imagination. Point being, its a great opportunity to just snoop around the basement of a very old place, and get an inkling of an idea for what life was like way back in KC’s history. And that’s something I certainly enjoy!
