Hula Girl

This is a really fun store on the Kapaa strip. We were walking around and decided to stop in, because I was in the market for a Hawaiian shirt for my husband. We met with the friendly owner, who explained that they have tons of fantastic replicas of well-​known Hawaiian shirts in pop culture and beyond. She pointed up at a small TV that was showing shows & movies that happened to feature some of the shirts! I took a quick run through the women’s section, but it was way less inspired (read: standard Hawaiian-​print breezy dresses, some tops & jewelry, etc.).
I noticed that the quality of the shirts here far exceeded anything else I found on the island, and for that reason it’s a little pricier. But you’re definitely getting what you pay for! The fabric is silkier & softer, and the patterns are bolder and more vibrant than I had seen. Sizes were mostly limited to what they had out, but the owner checked in the back for additional sizes when we asked. My husband found a couple in his size to try on, and ended up buying a great navy shirt with a white pineapple print.
BUT! Here’s where it gets interesting …
My husband had fallen in love with the Magnum, P.I. shirt, but they didn’t have it in his size at the time. She explained that they would have to order more soon, as they were out of stock. I took the shop’s business card on the sly, and contacted them as soon as I got home to the mainland. We exchanged emails, where I explained that I would love to have his shirt in time for his birthday (about a month away). She said «Of course!» and not only did she help me order, she asked for the pattern to be expedited so it would arrive in time! And sure enough, my package arrived a few days before his birthday with a sweet note inside from the shop. With great quality shirts & that kind of customer service, I’m just not sure why you’d shop anywhere else.

Very cool place, unique guy’s T shirts and Hawaiian button ups. I got a shirt with the Jurassic Park logo that says Kauai, Hawaii instead of Jurassic Park and instead of a Trex it is a Chicken. Friendly and helpful lady store clerk

My friends and I stopped in here the other day and thought everything was really cute. EXCEPT THE SERVICE. She glared at us the whole time, not saying hello, not cracking a smile. I even asked if they had something in stock and the woman behind the counter barely even acknowledged me. She nodded no dismissively and just glared at me, resting stank face and all. I thought to myself, «holy Julia Roberts, did I just get pretty woman’ed?»
*shrug*
We just strolled down a couple of shops and spent our money elsewhere.

This is a really cute shop with lovely clothing. I got an adorable Escapada dress with seashells on it and my husband got a Hawaiian shirt with guitars and ukeleles on it! Now we’ll always think of Kauai when we wear our things. I thought the prices were really reasonable, too. This is a must-​stop if you’re shopping in the area. It’s not like those other touristy/​souvenir type of places. Tori Richards brand shirts can be kind of pricey, but the quality is good and they have the best prints. This is one of my favorite local shops on the island. Pilar is such a nice woman, and very enthusiastic about their merchandise. Their website doesn’t show it, but they have a really nice selection of locally crafted evening/​dress purses with an island flair. If you go in, make sure you take a look! I «settled» on a lovely Escapada dress (still getting compliments) last time I was there, but I will be back for one of their unique bags.

I am extremely grateful for their customer service! I placed an order from them online for my fiancé’s Hawaiian shirt, to be worn for our wedding ceremony in Kauai. While we were very satisfied with the quality of the shirt, it was a size too large. Their excellent customer service came in when I called to explain the situation. While over the 30-​day exchange, and while the store/​online site typically work separately, they placed a special order for me for pick-​up at their store because they knew it was for my wedding! I really appreciated they went the extra mile. So amazing! Thank you, Hula Girl!

First I walked in just to «look» as my husband was next door. I immediately found an amazing t-​shirt (and i am not a t-​shirt girl)…It was soft, unique and awesome sea turtles on it. I love it. i went inside and it was the only one left. the sales girl hopped on the one in the window and it was a perfect fit. The price was so reasonable for an unique shirt and not a run of the mill clothing. I found the cute summer dresses and just loved about 10 immediately. We had just been there for 3 days so did not want to do all my shopping without looking around. the rest of the trip, all I could think about were the few dresses I saw. They were also very reasonable 40 – 50.00…
I returned a few days later and there was a girl trying on a asymetrical dress and she owned this dress with her figure. I tried it on and lets just say she was a 10 and I was about a 7… The sales girl mentioned a dress that no one had tried on yet. It was definitely not my style on the hanger. i went and tried it on and fell in love with it. Like the girl before me, I walked out of there wearing the dress and went straight to dinner. it is awesome. I can dress it casual of put heels with it. i sure hope they ship because there are 2 more dresses on my list. Thank you for your awesome help and courtesy.

This is a well curated clothing and souvenir shop in the downtown shopping district of Kapaa. My husband picked up a really nice long sleeved t shirt that he is still wearing 6 months after our trip.

This review is for the online store for Hula Girl. I needed some aloha wear for an upcoming wedding on Maui. I found a great selection of quality Hawaiian shirts on their well designed web site. Sizing information was provided, and I measured carefully prior to ordering as they instructed. The shirts arrived within a few days, but were much too large. I emailed the store, and received a response within the hour with return instructions. I shipped the shirts back, and in 2 days got an email that the correct size shirts were on their way, with a refund of the amount that was extra for the larger shirts. The owner of this store is friendly and responsive to email requests, and they want to make sure the customer is happy. In addition, they sell quality brand Hawaiian shirts, and I will definitely buy from them again. If you sign up for their email list, they even give 20% off the entire first order from the site, another great savings. Shipping is free. Cannot recommend highly enough. THIS is the way an internet store should operate.

I bought the cutest dress here and have gotten so many compliments on it. Great quality as well. I was hesitant to shop here since it is in tourist central and prices are steep, but I needed a dress and the Macy’s in town didn’t have anything I liked. I found a dress the second I walked in. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Check it out.

Just purchased two dresses from the shop. It is well laid out and the clothing has a retro Hawaii look and design. Lots of Hawaiian music being played. Staff is helpful and prices fairly reasonable.
