Safeway

I enjoy going to Safeway as they have a wide range of choices and it is pretty clean. I also like that it is open 24 hours. However, Kapolei Safeway has gone downhill over the years and many of their dedicated employees have moved to the new Ewa Safeway. Since then, (and since the opening of Walmart) the quality of service has not been the same.
The Kapolei Safeway is understaffed. What happened to the employees that would bag your groceries, pick up carts in the parking lot, and ask you if you are finding everything ok in the aisles? Now, the cashiers are bagging the groceries, causing check-​out to take twice as long. There are never any carts outside, the only aisle workers are in produce, and the deli counter person tries to hide in the back so they can’t see you. Let’s not even get started on all the expired produce on the shelves!
This Safeway is convenient as far as the hours opened and product availability. However, expect to wait in long lines, and check for a cart while you’re still in the parking lot.

I don’t know why the workers behind the deli counter are so rude. Today was the 3^rd time in a row I noticed that. They shrug their shoulders at me when I ask for something, or just seem to not want to give me any service. I feel like I am bothering them for shopping there!
I have also been there in the later part of the evening, and only one or two checkouts are open with the lines wrapped around 10 – 15 people deep with full carts. I just walk out and go to Foodland!
This used to be a great Safeway, but seen it go downhill. Not sure if 2 stars was being too generous…

obviously this whole 3 ppl in line and we’ll open another register is full of crap. theres 7 people infront of me with only 3 lanes open. All the lines are going onto the aisles and still no one to open a reguster… managers must be excluded for making money

They have a variety of groceries & I can always find what I need. Their seasonal bakery products are awesome. I would give them 5-​stars except got bad taco poke twice. Even after talking to the «Uncle» behind the counter. The Hispanic food section is awesomely stocked… Nearly everything a Hispanic needs to cause panic when cooking. «Your sista can’t resist her… Beans n rice didn’t miss her.

The lines are always long and service is so slow. There’s always 2 lines with 10+ people waiting. Theres a sign posted «Your time matters 3s a crowd» thats bs. This store needs better management on how to handle long lines.

Isles between the shelves are tight. There wasn’t enough groceries in stock. Area seemed a bit run down and is in need of an upgrade. Getting in and out can be a bit hard because if the limited traffic light access into the shopping center.

Safeway is located in the Kapolei Shopping Center. There’s a BoH branch located in the supermarket. I have been to this supermarket several times.
The times that I did shop in this establishment was when I wanted to purchase some fresh fruits like plums, strawberries, and nectarines. One time I had to purchase Boost drinks for one of my brothers.
On another visit into Safeway I was browsing to see what other merchandises that the supermarket has to offer to the customers. I noticed books, magazines, gift cards, as well as the usual household items, packaged beverages, fresh fruits and vegetables, a bakery section, and the seafood department.
The supermarket is very clean and the employees are friendly. Safeway does have their own rewards card program… sign up for the card to get some discounts on items. That reminds me… I need to sign up for one instead of giving my cousin all the points. Lol.
There’s even restrooms for the public to use.
Warning on the women’s restroom… water pressure is very slow. I’m unsure if maintenance fixed the toilet since my last visit.

We love Safeway esp on $ 5 Friday’s! But I do have to share my last experience. I bought things to make pork watercress (onion pork oyster sauce watercress & tofu) I tried to purchase local watercress (which is all I use) but per produce worker they haven’t had any in about a week. So I resulted in purchasing a mainland brand. When rinsing the watercress (which was the size of your fist) I rinsed them «throughly» washing off any dirt.
After cooking the meat I turned off the stove & added the watercress mixed then added the tofu. Then dinner was served. While serving I found the the beetle took it out & was grossed out! I called Safeway & the supervisor on duty said to come in the next day & speak with the store manger & ask for a full refund. Came in the next day spoke with Kyle the store manager & after speaking with me for a few minutes, He refunded me my meal. I was very impressed in how I didn’t have to fight too much for what had happened & getting a complete refund for everything. Thank u Kyle! My lesson? Always stick with ur gut feeling & if a store doesn’t have ur regular brand well drive to another store! BUY LOCAL! have a blessed day everyone!

I work in Kapolei and am always looking for a good lunch deal. Safeway has really awesome sandwiches– they are really affordable but still good quality. When I’m at the Kapolei Safeway they have great customer service, but are often limited on bread choice. I come here for breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The last two times they were out of my first choice bread.

I usually shop at the commissary or foodland to support local farms, but I was in a rush to cook dinner and went to the closest grocery store. Wide variety to choose from and also offer organic produce. Friendly customer service out on the floor that were helpful and cashier was great as well however lines were ridiculously long. Only 3 lines were open. I think it took longer as well due to no baggers. Besides that great all around atmosphere.

It’s great using their app to get the extras in specials. No coupons to cut out just except what you want and goes straight to your card. A smart way to become a economy shopper

I love Safeway or the sister stores Vons in the mainland. Lots of stuff are in stock and if they don’t have it you can order it. Love the friendly staff here!

I can summarise my experience with three examples: 1). Medium LIME was $ 1 each!!! It was said to be «organic» and yet it was from MEXICO!!! DO NOT TRUST MEXICO FOOD.
2). CARROTS, 4 ounce for $ 4. It too claimed to be organic… But no proof.
3). APPLE. No way is ONE apple over $ 1.
I left everything and will go to Costco or a military base for +60% OFF on these unexplainable prices.
AVOID THIS STORE… ITS AV100% RIP OFF!!!

I went to Safeway Kapolei Friday morning 5÷8÷15 to get a snack for me to eat. this was around 830. there were two LONG lines that were marked for only 15 items or less (I think). What ever the amount of items allotted for people to have in those lines were, there were people with loaded groceries in their cart that had no choice but to stand in those lines. I had just one thing in my hand while standing in line (hostess ho-​hos). What really gets me about this is that there was the store manager that was stacking items in front of an aisle right by the two LOOOOONG lines that were moving at a sloth-​like pace. people were feeling frustrated, and rolling their eyes and talking about how slow the lines were moving. Finally there was a gentlemen in the line next to me that went up to that manager and said to him, ‘is there anything you can do to help this situation. It is obvious that there are long lines here, and you continue to stack things!” Immediately, the MANAGER WITH THE WORD «MANAGER» UNDER HIS NAME on his name tag, stops stacking whatever he was stacking (I think it was paper towels), walks up to a register next to the gentleman (who was smart enough to get his attention), and says to the gentleman, «I am doing more than just stacking»!
I swear the manager was so awfully anti-​customer, anti-​employee, and lacked managerial skills. He is so ABLE TO SEE that there were long lines but kept doing his «more than just stacking thing» until someone who was at his toxic level of irritation had to yell at him to cue him to help his employees provide customer service.
I was just about to put down the snack and leave the store, and the manager came to me and said come to the next line.
I felt that this manager was not someone I would like to work under. he seemed so uncaring to help his customers or his employees give the best service. he seemed like he could give a crap about his customers. my advice to you… step down. If this is the type of customer service they provide because they are the only grocery store nearby then I sure hope that Foodland gets there quick!

Came here for just cupcakes early as 8 am. Ask an associate if they had any. She said yes but she (another associate) had to bring it out but not yet because she had to bring it out after. So I asked if I had to wait or can I just have some now. No I had to come back. Therefore I took my business somewhere else. If I’m willing to give your company the money, just take the damn things from the back and hand it over. Poor service. It’s no wonder I don’t go there anymore. Not helpful at all. Took my business to cupcake and things. They were very accommodating to my needs and time constaint. Although the guy at the register was very polite and nice, so here is a star for him.

When I don’t feel like facing the parking lot at sam’s– I go here. They have a great selection of cheese, wine and organic produce. The grass fed black angus tenderloin is fantastic if you are shunning the vegetarian in you and if you are craving some warm, hearty soup and sliced cured meats, the deli is where it’s at (incredible tomato bisque– sooo good!!). Their french baguettes baked daily never disappoint and the midweek always has good sales and promotions for their items. Love the donut and cake selection as well– but you have to go early! I am not gonna lie– location does make a difference… I love the ewa, honolulu and Kapolei locations… the aiea branch is closer to me– but I find they don’t have as fresh or vast a selection. I’d go the extra mile for the other locations. Prices can be high for some items– compared to sam’s and costco– but for the unmarried me– bulk can sometimes go to waste.

Haven’t leaned my lesson. Customer service sucks… only 3 lines open with 20 plus people in line AGAIN

Can someone please explain to me why there is always ONE register open on busy nights, especially since this Safeway is 24hours?
This is so ridiculous to purchase one item but only to wait because there is only ONE register open at night –during summer or holidays. I really think they need at least TWO cashiers so they can make the lines shorter and quicker!
Also, customers really need to stop with the coupon thing if you can not read or don’t understand the rules on couponing, PLEASE PLEASE don’t do it. If you do, can you please do it when it is NOT during a holiday month/​weekend at least?!
The donuts here, when are they made? in the morning and left out all day? That is NOT considered *made fresh daily* to me because you would think I would have learned my lesson not to purchase their donuts only to get THEE worst stomach pains ever?! I mean just recently, I purchased their donuts twice and both times got stomach aches but in the past I bought them and did NOT have this problem at all? I mean made fresh in the morning? sure, but I would think they would change it out right? I feel like their food department is lacking and severely being neglected! possibly needs to be reported to Health Regulations too for check ups, getting stomach aches this bad is a big no no, and their donuts was the last thing I ate that day.
The best thing I love about this Safeway is ONLY the selection on Ice cream. Yup, ICE CREAM. For some odd reason, they have good sale prices for their ice cream. That is all.

I love kapolei Safeway because they have Bank of Hawaii in the store and the store is open 24-​hours. This store is always clean and organized and most times, very well stocked. I often come here for last minute gift cards, soooo convenient. Its like a little village in here. They have a florist, poke section, deli, and bakery. I forgot, they also have a magazine section. Their prices are a bit pricey but I don’t care, you only live once. Staff are always nice and friendly with of course the occasional cranky cashier but nobody is perfect. Did I mention they open 24 hours, lol. I especially love the holidays because they offer cool home decorations for Christmas, Halloween, and of course all the other holidays!

No matter what time of the day I go the line is either long or the cashier is not around. Avoid going on holidays. Trust me on this! The only reason i go to Safeway is because Whenever I’m at the shopping center eating thats the nearest grocery store there.
