The Home Depot

This location is hit and miss. There’s times where I walk in and can find a very helpful associate very quickly and there’s times when I walk up and down isles trying to find someone to help me and when I finally find someone they’re helping someone else. I hope you get a lucky visit and find the help you need! I’ve also had very helpful associates and those who look at you and sigh as if you the customer are of an inconvenience! So like I said I get good and not so good experiences. Many of times I’ve needed help loading my vehicle and the PRO club associates are always so willing and it makes me comfortable to see they don’t mind helping the customer. I really enjoy Tony! He’s down to earth, fun, happy, and even talks to my children and is like an uncle to them! They look forward to seeing Tony! I wish this store had more Tony’s! Happy to help the customer!

Had a pleasant experience compared to Lowes. Came in looking for electrial wires and was surprised that there was already an associate at the wire cutting station. Karl was very helpful in the electrical wires station and knowledage as well. They have a good selection of items for home improvement.

Updating my review, I didn’t think it was fair to give one star based on my experience with one worker. (Even though each time I had the displeasure of being serviced by her) I was approached and helped out by 2 employees today and they were awesome. Not only were they knowledgeable, but they stopped what they were doing to help me find what I needed.

They say no hassle, fast returns but I had to wait in line for 30 mins and in the end they wouldn’t return a faulty lock I purchased here. I’m standing in line and employees are walking all over the place talking and what not and only one person is really working.

I am on the fence about this location as the customer service seems
lacking. I find that often times the service representatives are not knowledgeable about the products, or service departments. I really appreciate the convenience of the location; however I do feel that the customer service could be better equipped to answer questions about their basic products. We went in today to pick up flooring and we were waiting for a long time despite it being paid for and ready to pick up. On top of it the service worker did not help us load the truck with the flooring so two ruff and tuff wahines handled it today. We got this. Anwyays, home deport in kapolei could use a revamp is their customer service department.

I went in around 2120 on a Monday for color swatches. There was a lot of open stalls (probably because they are open until 2200 on weeknights).
Finding the paint department was fairly easy. I came with my fiancé who agreed to help color swatch. For 10 minutes, we spent it looking through the various brands, which was nice because we prefer to look first and if something catches our eye then customer service is needed.
We couldn’t find what we were looking for and spent 5 minutes looking for an associate. No luck.
Finally, someone comes and things just took a nose dive.
I wish I caught his name but he didn’t have a nametag. He completely ignores us and concentrates on another associate. He’s telling the other associate, «yo dude she left a whole palette. No shrink wrap, no nothing. Bro, don’t say anything.»
Ok…
My fiancé went up to the guy and asked if he could help us. He said he would try his best and told us to come follow him.
Wrong!
We follow him just to have him turn back around to where we originally were! –_​–
We get back to the counter and he tells me, «this is our white Behr pallet, you’re gonna have to go through and see which one matches the best.»
Ok. Sure.
He then gets a phone call, faces his back towards me and I can hear him say, «can I stay 1 hour over so I can work on the palette? Ok, so now can you let me know what’s more important: the pit or the palette? You let me know.» He hangs up and says, «I’m gonna try rack OT this whole week cause it’s my last week. Yeah baby!»
I got irritated so I went back to where he grabbed the color swatches and grabbed more of Behr’s brochures.
I left unsatisfied at 2150. Although this was a horrible experience, I’ll probably return because I can’t let one bad apple ruin it for the bunch.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I had some questions and it may have been stupid or it may have been hard i don’t know. You be the judge on that, I asked if the color I chose could cover the current paint I have on my wall. Asking in sense of do I need a primer? Blue eye shadow lady looks at me and say, «I don’t know.» So I stand there awkwardly waiting for an explanation, and repeat myself. She say again «I don’t know.» Then I ask ok would a primer be necessary? Again «I don’t know.» I know she works in the paint department because I see her in that section every time I come in. EVERY TIME! So I know she knows or knows something! I’m holding a light grey covering a beige color.
I then ask another person who was a lot younger, who I have thought wouldn’t know much but come to find out she did! She helped me out, made me 2 of the 5 gallon paint and 3 of the 1 gallon paints. I appreciated her product knowledge and product placement in store and I was glad to be on her good side cause one thing I do want to say is that she does need to work on her customer service skills, cause I don’t believe using swear words, throwing objects at customer is proper customer service.
While looking around the store I needed help finding foam tubes that goes around the pipes and 3 of the employees just tell me check on 12, 13 or 14 (note: each person told me all different aisle numbers). Ok, understandable that you don’t know where cause it’s a big store but at least help me out and so you yourself can find the answer to what aisle it is stead of guessing next time.
My mother in law ask a guy a question and the guy doesn’t turn or look up to look at us he just keeps doing what he does and says «yeah it should be over there, where your looking at» and walks away. Actually they didn’t have what we were looking for and fuck turn around look at the customer so you know what we talking about and not with your back towards us.
Time to check out the lady was really rude. My mother in law is from the mainland so she can’t pronounce Hawaiian words and was trying to say a project site. Couldn’t say it correctly and try’s to say it over and over to get it right. I step and say it correctly for her and the cashier says Oo and repeats what I say back and looks at at her and laughs. I know we all get kicks out of mainlanders trying to say Hawaiian names but be professional don’t be like that and try to humiliate someone.
I have high customer service expectations, cause I work in a place that’s customer service driven. If I was to act like these employees and I was reported, I could be written up and out of there!
But this is why I love going to City Mill! Great customer service, helpful people who will try to do as much as they can to help and lots of «old-​timers» who know they’re shit! When I mean old timers those gentlemen who are a natural at fixer uppers, who probably is a retired or has years and background in painting/​construction/​electrical/​plumbing/​etc.
Only reason I went to Home Depot is because City Mill doesn’t carry 5 gallons of Benjamin Moore paint and Behr is pretty comparable.

Horrible customer service. Worst experience I ever had in customer service. We arrived around 7:15 and informed customer service department we wanted our blinds cut. She told us to go back to flooring and someone there will help us. We walked over and didn’t see any worker around. We sat at the desk and waited for about 10 minutes with no worker anywhere. My boyfriend stayed back and i went to look for someone. Walked down past appliances and found a worker. Told her that we been waiting and she said she would page over head. I headed back and we sat around another 10 minutes. Other customers were asking us if we been help cause they needed help. I decided to call on the phone and when they answered the lady told me she would transfer the call and i said no im here at the store and been waiting for almost 30 minutes already. She tells me okay i will send someone there. And this lady goes and tries calling the department over the phone when i just told her no one is there and we sitting listening to the phone ring. I went up to the customer service desk and told them we been waiting and this is ridiculous. They call the manager and tell us someone will be there to help its because they only have one worker there and he is at lunch. We wait in the back and this other worker says she will go call
«Lupe». He comes out looks at our blinds and says i cant cut that. I was like why and he says we cant cut the kits. Long story short I verified with Home depot pearl city it can be done and called the manager and told him that they have horrible customer service and a lazy worker who didnt want to take the time to help us!
*** just to add I received a follow up call By the manager Chris who was very understanding. Thank goodness for his great service. He assured me that he reported my concerns and they will be trying to figure out why pearl city was able to cut my blinds and their department wouldn’t.

The folks here have been great in helping my wife and I get into the DIY thing. Some of the names that come to mind when I think of who has helped us so much, going out of their way even, would have to be Rol (I think that’s how you spell his name, all I know is he works in lumber usually) and Cliff («Uncle Cliff» as more than one associate has referred to him). Both of these guys have been a big help with the various projects my wife and I have worked to complete.
Even though we live right up the street from a perfectly good hardware store, we still insist on driving out to Kapolei just to go to this specific Home Depot, not because they carry anything different product-​wise, but because of the quality of the people they employ.

Horrible experience. Bought quality laminate flooring. Arranged through Home Depot to install. Installer informed me that three boxes were damaged and he was unable to use anything from one box but was able to cut some from the other cartons to fit shorter runs. I took samples of the damaged materials back to the store. They refused any kind of refund unless I brought the whole box in even though I explained the situation. This should be between the installers and the store, but the result is that I’m out the cost of three cartons of laminate. Won’t be back. Will drive the extra 10 miles to Lowe’s for the reminder of my remodeling needs.
Update: I sent an email to Home Depot and have been contacted by several managers who have corrected the problem. Changed my rating from 1 to 3 stars. Customer service does seem to matter, so if you have issues, please go straight to the ‘contact us’ section on the website.

The Home Depot app said what I was looking for was in stock. Couldn’t find it anywhere. Couldn’t find anyone to help either. Walked down many aisles and eventually gave up and left. Guess we will spend our money at the other location. Otherwise, a nice place to purchase home needs.

The customer service has been hit or miss for me.
I came here for key copies (2) & while I got fast and friendly service that time, the keys didn’t work lol. I’ll be returning them.
I love walking around in here. It makes me want to work on all of these projects that I’ve been talking about doing but never really got around to doing them lol. Soon I will!
Unlike Lowes in Waikele, this Home Depot takes care of everything — INCLUDING THEIR RESTROOMS. I’m sooo happy for this fact alone!
I won’t be coming back to purchase any more keys from them* but I will be back for sure!

Back in December 2015 during the first week I had stepped foot into The Home Depot vicinity for the first time. I was browsing around to see if there are any items that I could purchase in the future.
Being that it was during the holiday season I seen some Christmas trees and poinsettia plants. There were a lot of items to choose for a garden: clay pots, different fruit plants, different flower plants, and different vegetable plants.
After browsing through the garden section I had entered the building itself. I walked down the many aisles and noticed the outdoor barbecue grills, the ceiling fans, light fixtures, paints, rugs, washers, dryers, refrigerators, microwaves, screen doors, and even plywoods. There are probably other items that a person can purchase to make improvements around the house.
I may have to go back to The Home Depot to find a lamp with a clamp… I could use the lamp for my bedroom. Plywoods would be good to replace the termite eaten wooden floor in my room as well. Brown paint would be needed to match the rest of wooden floor. I may have to check if the store has a dresser… I know I need one for my room.

The only reason I’m giving Home Depot a five star is because of one employee i had the pleasure of meeting today, Randal Wyre, Electrical Dept. an exceptional sales associate with wonderful customer service skills. Retail is my specialty as I worked for the government as a store director for 32 years. Believe me customer service was preached daily to my 175 employees but you don’t see much of it anymore.
I just want to say Mahalo Randal for all that you do for us retired military. We appreciate you! keep up the great work that you do for Home Depot, hopingly you will get the recognition you deserved by your management staff. Aloha,

Worst customer service ever. The only thing they know how to find is an excuse!
Typical conversation is as follows:
Customer: Hello, I’m looking for a [common knowledge object].
Sales Rep: Oh, a [repeats your request]…
Customer: Yes.
Sales Rep: What is that used for?
Customer: [Explains the use of object]
Sales Rep: Oh…[pulls out phone with home depot app] let me see… how do you spell that?
After arriving at item location you find that while their app shows that it is in stock at their location… their inventory is not up to date. Congratulations on wasting 30 minutes of your life!
Favorite excuses include:
«Well we should have it…»
«Shoots brah, no more»
«I just got off break, and I gave my phone to someone else»
«I think it’s either in aisle 7, 10, 11, 15 or garden section?»
«Oh…» [proceeds to get quiet and stare at the ground until you have to awkwardly walk away]
Don’t even bother asking someone for help, just download the home depot app and find your own items. This is your best chance, however since their inventory isn’t up to date it’s still a gamble… be prepared to waste your time.
The only person who had a worse experience was the man found dead in their parking lot.

When I was 16 I went for a job interview at Home Depot (on mainland). I was asked what kind of saw was this, interviewer holds up a large saw. Easy, that’s a big saw. Duh?! Didn’t get that job. However, I visit when I need plants and other items my fav Walmart doesn’t have available for all my household projects. They have a very generous return policy on plants. Who would ever return a plant you accidentally forgot to water or it just didn’t work out? They guarantee their plants up to a year. No questions asked, just have the receipt.

Home Depot! You can go ahead and probably say this review is biased. I’m a girl for some reason smitten by tools, hardware, home improvement supplies… I can’t help it. I walk in and I’m excited. I just wanna build sh… tuff.
Home Depot could pretty much never do me wrong, they have everything I could possibly think of (which isn’t fair to say, I know, because I don’t know that much about hardware lol). Lumber cull is cheap and awesome for random projects. I love that you can get your lumber and other things cut and if you’re like me, you’ll have crazy «blueprints» with measurements and calculations… just don’t let anyone else try to make sense of your plans. It’s best if you just ask for the cuts you need.
Having worked in a crafting section myself for three years, I can tell you this: please don’t just walk up into a place like this with absolutely no plans and ask someone how to make something. It doesn’t work that way. You’ve got to think for yourself or at least do the research yourself. The workers are not here to plan your projects for you. They’re here to help you find stuff, make your cuts, and make some product suggestions but that’s it. I’m tired of seeing clueless people just waltz up in here and other places like «so hey, I want to make this, how do I get started?»
Customer service for some reason has always been a bit overly nice to me. Weird. Sometimes I swear that the guy workers will spot me from all the way down the aisle in the second row and make a B line straight for me just to ask if I need help. I’m not sure whether to be offended because it means I look like I don’t know what I’m doing/​looking for… or if I should be flattered lol.
In any case, never a problem here. No service qualms. No cleanliness issues. Workers really nice and helpful. Love the garden section. Love the storage and organization sections. Definitely looooove looking at all the light fixtures and bathroom improvements and doors and carpets and tile omg tile. Oh, and I prefer getting my Christmas trees from here too during the winter.

I gave the rating I gave because they are usually out of stock of the few things I need for months. I like to get cordage from there since it’s cheap but I’m always chancing going here to see if they actually restocked it. I don’t like that lol. If I want something I like to know that a store sells it and has it in shelfs. It’s okay if once in a while things are sold out but almost every time to the point where I don’t ever know when they will stock the items that I need, that’s pretty bad for a store like Home Depot.
Also the plant section needs some help, the vegetables and herbs look like death and there was a water hose running, not watering anything but cement the whole time I was looking for some healthy plants.
The upside is that it’s a fun store to look around and kill time lol. I can look at all the things that our house needs but will never have lol.

* Advice: Maybe just shop here for merchandise and don’t bother with services. And, only on weekdays before noon. Trust me.
I don’t really know where to start.
Service, cleanliness, store orientation, contracted services… everything, is completely inconsistent. We’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars at various Home Depot stores, mostly at the Kapolei location. I’d say MOST of the time service is at about a two star level. Once in a while I’ll get 4 – 5 star service, but it is rare.
The only bit of service that is consistently at a 5 star level would be the person at the door greeting customers. I find that odd, because if I had that job I’d be bored out of my mind. But maybe they’re typically in a good mood because they don’t have to deal with any real customer services.
I’d say the worst part of Home Depot is dealing with any specialty services like getting paint, ordering cabinets, carpet, etc. Most of the time whoever I work with can’t answer many questions, and sometimes they are just downright rude.
Don’t even bother calling any location. You’ll be stuck on hold and laughed at. I didn’t know about the laughing until standing in line at customer service desks, hearing them pick up the phone (after letting it ring for 5 minutes), put them on hold and then make jokes about whoever is on the line. One girl even laughed about it to me.
I could go on forever… I typically shop here at least once a week. Yes. I still shop here. Often. And, I’d recommend it to anyone. Why? Because they have everything you could possibly need at (usually) the best price. They still only get 2 stars because I hate most of their employees.
Oh, we buy all our bottled water here, it’s the cheapest on the island as far as I know. $ 3-​ish for a 24 pack, plus we have a military discount of 10%. Friggen awesome. 5 stars for cheap water.

Why haven’t you had Closetmaid shelves for garages in stock for over a month? I already started a portion of my garage with your product. You make it really difficult to finish, or for that matter, begin a project when you don’t have everything in stock to complete a project. Oh and your people keep saying it is coming in two weeks? It’s been over a month. I need my shelves!!!
Lowe’s has everything I need for my project, same brand, slightly higher price, but in a different color. My loyalty is wavering Home Depot, I might have to leave you for your competitor. You were once fun, full of energy, with an unwavering commitment to yours truly. You seemed to have dulled during our time together, how loyal was I with the thousands of dollars that I spent on you. Now you seem indifferent and not to care. Why did I trust you so Home Depot?
