Wonderful intimate restaurant with excellent food and beautiful presentation. Never had a bad meal and was always treated like a valued customer. For any of our life events, birthdays, graduations or anniversaries, Basil’s is our destination. Been to Perry’s and spent a fortune on mediocre food. I have to come back to Basil’s and wonder why I went anywhere else.

First of all it was New Year’s Eve Day and lots of spots were closed. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to eat at someplace local. This place oozes European charm. We were the only ones in the place so service was impeccable! The meal began with their unique rolls which were crunchy outside and yeasty inside. They need an herby compound butter, they deserve an herby compound butter! I am a muscle snob and flipped over their delicious huge muscles with a wine sauce heavy with fresh tarragon and garlic. I even swipped my hubby’s second roll to sop up the remains. My beef tenderloin stuffed with Artichokes with and topped with bernaise sauce reminded me of those steakhouses with huge price tags. The potatoes were made crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside with a hint of onion to kick it up. My husband had the Chicken au Poivre and the French Onion soup, both delicious. The chicken was so tender it melted in your mouth. We are going back on diets on Monday so we HADTOHAVEDESERT and the Frauangelica Cheesecake did not disappoint. The prices are very modest. Our only complaint is the sad little wine list. This place has great potential. They obviously use fresh herbs where ever possible and every detail is well done. Please spread the word about this little gem. We want them to be here when we come back to town!

This place is listed in the Mediterranean category, but it’s French. A little disappointed when I showed up for lunch and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting, but that’s Unilocal’s fault and not the restaurant’s. No time to drive somewhere else on my break, so I stayed. Nice ambiance for a small café and the service was friendly. I had the French Onion soup and the ceviche. The soup was really just okay, but the ceviche was delicious!!! Other yummy sounding stuff on the menu that I would like to try, and I will definitely be back for the fabulous ceviche.

Went to this restaurant for dinner on 12÷18÷15 and didn’t like it. Even though the restaurant is supposed to be a no smoking facility, it reeked of smoke inside. The waiter was unattentive and not very friendly. The food was ok but not worth a visit.

Had a great meal tonight! My husband and I had different chicken dishes. The chicken was very tender and we opted for the vegetables and roasted potatoes instead of rice. They were more than happy to accommodate us. We will definitely go back to this great little find in Katy!

A friend recommended this place to my wife and I. We both had two different chicken plates and a Greek salad. The Greek salad looked like a regular salad you can make at home with a few Spanish olives thrown in and no feta cheese. We both ordered separate chicken plates. The chicken was bland and tough. I felt their food was not prepared or seasoned well. There was also a foul odor in the restaurant that reminded me of a pet store.

Basil’s has been the topic of many conversations with my grandmother, who adores both their food and atmosphere. She is quite a gourmet cook, so when she likes a restaurant, you know it’s superb. I was in town for a visit, and finally experienced this amazing restaurant for myself. I had the lamb shank, and it was prepared and served to absolute perfection. The wine we selected Wes extremely good, and desserts were heaven. After 5 glasses of wine between the two of us, and after eating ourselves to completely full, the bill was under $ 80!!! Trendy, classy décor, wonderful food, extremely fair prices… This place is a huge win!!!

We were looking for something cozy and romantic for a date night and this place was perfect. The place wasn’t overly fancy but yet still classy. The food was superb! I had the French onion soup, which was really rich and flavorful. The Chicken Scallopini never lets me down, usually have some left over for lunch and it’s still delicious!

Wow! Absolutely delicious French cuisine! Everything from my flounder to the escargot was excellent and cooked to perfection. I also tried ceviche for the first time here and it was absolutely mouth watering and flavorful! Everything was fresh!

I absolutely love the ambiance of this place on a Friday night! The place is elegant but also casual. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the food that allowed the flavors to come out. My boyfriend had the shrimp Thermidor and he found it tasty and it went well with the rice. I had the grilled chicken stuffed with goat cheese spinach and vodka sauce. If was delicious :) the bread was also sooooo good and warm! My only negative comment is that this place has weird hours! I had to check 3 times before I was finally able to try the food

My mother and I stopped in here for dinner on Friday night around 6pm. We were very surprised that not a single customer was in the restaurant. After we started looking at the menu, my mother became very disheartened because nearly every entrée had some sort of butter or cream sauce and she had just joined Weight Watchers. We went ahead and stayed and she ordered the Trout($ 14 I believe) — asking it to only be cooked in a little butter and to have the veggies steamed instead of cooked in butter. I ordered the French Onion Soup($ 6.50) and the Tomato and Goat Cheese Salad($ 6.50). I LOVED the French Onion soup. Another reviewer said it was too peppery but I thought that was what made it stand out above other French Onion soups. I loved the savoriness of it. And there wasn’t too much cheese, which a lot of other restaurants tend to do. The salad was delicious too. The goat cheese was to die for. I love that the salad wasn’t too expensive. I would have been upset if I had paid $ 10 or something for it, but I thought $ 6 was just right. My mother’s trout — even though she was a bit picky with how she ordered it — ended up perfect. Just enough butter for flavor but not so much that it was drowning in it or that she felt guilty about eating it. The steamed veggies were great too. I also ordered a key lime pie to go and it is also incredibly delicious(eating it while typing!). It isn’t green which I see as a good thing, no need for food coloring! Overall we were very impressed with the food. One couple came in as we were leaving. It was strange to have so few people in a place that was so delicious. As far as food allergies — being in a family that has several — I did notice that you would probably not want to go here if you were lactose intolerant or were allergic to mushrooms! Your options would be very limited based off of there dinner menu.

My mom and I visited Basil’s for lunch the other day and we had a pretty disgusting experience. We came in about 5 minutes after 2, and the waitress told us the kitchen would close exactly at 2:30. We said that we don’t mind and could order right away but the waitress didn’t seem too happy about it. There wasn’t anyone else in the restaurant except a lady siting at the bar on the phone with her shoes off, who I suspected to be a friend of someone on the waitstaff. Not a good impression, seeing someone barefoot in the restaurant in which you are about to eat. We both have food allergies and intolerances so we had a lot of questions for the waitress about the menu, like if the burger meat was ground in house. She didn’t know that much about the menu, assured us that it was freshly prepared though, and seemed kind of annoyed that we were asking about certain dishes because she keep her eyes. My mom and I both choose to start with French onion soup, I ordered the crab and crawfish cakes, and my mom got the sirloin burger. The soup was average. It wasn’t particularly bad, but it was too peppery and not too fresh. Then we had our entrees, which was the real disaster. My crab and crawfish cakes were so fishy and disgusting. Beyond edible. They tasted frozen and old. I sent them back and didn’t order anything else. My mother’s burger also tasted frozen. The patty was extremely dense like frozen meat. It also was under seasoned and overcooked. We asked the waitress again if the meat was frozen and she said that she didn’t know if it came in frozen but the patty was made in house. My mom didn’t send the plate back because we ended up eating the potato patties that came with it, which were extremely salty but at least homemade. We will not be returning to Basil’s. I doubt that this local eatery will last very long.

I am new to the Houston area and I have a good friend that lives here as well so after looking on Unilocal to find a restaurant that was in between where we live I came across The Basil Café and saw the great reviews. So we decided to give it a try. WOW! Nice little Café very cozy, we were greeted by a very friendly couple I’m guessing they were the owners. My friend and I had an absolutely fantastic lunch. The food was outstanding and so was the service. I am definitely coming back for dinner next time. This place is a true gem in Katy. Also the prices were decent as well.

My husband and I went to Basil’s for the first time last weekend with another couple. We were all pleasantly surprised with this neighborhood café. After reading some of the comments, I assumed it to be an expensive restaurant but found it to be reasonably priced. We ordered spinach & artichoke dip and crab cake appetizers. They were both very good and an ample amount to split between the four of us. My husband ordered a salad which was also large enough for me to share with him. Our waiter recommended the crab stuffed filet of sole, which all four of us ordered. It was absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed the meal and will be going back!

My wife and I dined here for lunch. This was our first visit. This lovely small café is tastefully decorated, with a beautiful fresh flower on every table. My wife had tomato basil soup and I had crab and shrimp cakes. We were both very pleased with the food. The dinner menu has many delicious sounding entrees we would love to try, so we will definitely be coming back for dinner. It is wonderful to have a nice little gourmet café on south Fry Road.(I would have given them 5 stars but my wife felt the soup was a tad too salty for her tastes.)
