I haven’t eaten Mexican in quite some time and I used to be a huge fan of Cucos. I stopped in yesterday with my restaurant frequenteer partner and I was ever so pleased! Let’s start with service. We had a nice server but he wasn’t very attentive, we had to remind and repeat often. However he was kind. I think because we came in after the lunch rush he was ready to get out, understandable. Food, although our server was ready to go the food came out beautifully set up and deliciously fresh! I got the Pollock Pablano; I highly recommend this dish. First of all the chicken breast was huge, close to a pound, I’m an eyeball estimater. The breast was also butterflied for easier access and they were not skimpy on the sauce! My friend ordered the beef stuffed avacado and it was graciously stuffed with fajita beef and cheese! We also ordered the queso flameado; beef! I highly recommend all of these dishes! The Margaritas are freshly made to order, if frozen; you can hear the blender! The rocks are premade but I don’t think it makes a difference, they get the job done! I didn’t sample any tea; sorry Unilocalers. I’m giving it a 4 because of the service, it’s understandable yes, but I served for 12 years! Ex servers are a lot more kind than individuals whom have never served, so with that said, smile and know you will eventually go home! Other than that it was a top notch experience and we will be back!

My husband and I went to Los Cucos for Valentine’s Day yesterday. I must say I was impressed upon entry. Extremely clean fast service and although they were very busy wait time was about 15⁄20 minutes to be seated. Not bad for a very busy and packed to capacity restaurant. This was our first time inside this restaurant every time we pass by on regular business days it’s always busy. So today we thought we’d try it out. The waiter was ok. He wasn’t very talkative though. Our food was(in the words of Roger from The American dad) *These choladiles these choladiles omg Francine these choladiles* lol Delicious. My husband ordered this dish that had steak and chicken and cheese stuffed enchiladas. I ordered steak, fajitas & shrimp sautéed with bell pepper, sweet tomatoes, onions and it was amazing. The green dipping sauce for the tortilla chips was great We loved it. They had live music and a cartoonist drawing pictures at the entrance. We had a pretty awesome time. We will be back soon. I hope this review was helpful and I hope you get a chance to go to this restaurant and have a great experience as well. Have a wonderful day SYOY!!!

Horrible. Went for dinner and food was subpar. Service was worse. Gave it a second try for Sunday brunch. They make you pay in advance without even taking your drink order. What is that? Brunch buffet was cold and dirty and with very little food. Will not be going back again.

We have been coming to this same Los Cucos for years, as our office is just down the road from them. The food taste has not been the same quality, and we don’t get very good service any time we go or cater food to our office. Today, we ordered regular fajitas, and the woman who took our order on the phone ordered us something completely different(with a $ 7 more price difference), and did not specify on the phone how much the total would be, even when asked. When we arrived, the manager continued to argue with us in regards to which one we ordered, and how much the price was. The menu we pulled up online AND on our phones(in front of him) he said was an old PDF and continued to argue! He actually went back to his office and pulled it up on the computer as well and then came out and said that we actually had ordered something else(when clearly the order taker at the front desk messed up), and that we had to pay that price. The right thing to do would be the honor that price that was online or fix the order with what we originally meant to order. He didn’t give us that option, he quickly snatched up our waiting debit cards and swiped it before even coming up with a solution to fix it. We will NEVER come here again, the food isn’t all that great anyway, and we will definitely will not cater for our company/clients AGAIN!(And we cater almost once every 2 weeks or so).

Went to eat here with a friend who ordered the infamous fried avocado and fish taco and she was not disappointed, I however did not fare so well. I ordered the nachos… Who can mess up nachos!!! Los Cucos can mess up nachos! The first plate came and the food was already Luke warm, and very skimpy cheese, I sent them back and the next plate had the cheese, but the chips still tastes stale. The manager did take the food off our bill, if I come back it will be for that tasty looking infamous fried stuffed avocado! Also Kudos to our server Cesar who made every attempt to make me happy!(:

I keep coming back. Why? The service is poor. The food is generic. Ordered fajitas. Chicken is dry dry dry. The place is loud. Lots of mistakes in the process. Just not a happy customer I suppose.

I’ve been coming to Los Cucos for many years. This place used to be better. In my opinion, the food quality and quantity is overpriced. There are way too many other great restaurants in the Katy area now. Last night we meet some friends from out of town at this location since they were staying at a hotel nearby. They have recently remodeled and it really looks nice. Both my wife and I ordered the Mar y Tierra with no rice and beans. We had our waiter substitute grilled veggies. When the order came, I saw a few slices of chicken and few slices of beef with lots of onions. The 4 bacon wrapped shrimp tasted ok but were way over-cooked. The veggies were not even grilled. Looked like they came out of frozen bag from the grocery store. Then when the bill came I noticed we had been charged an extra charge of $ 4.31 for the veggies. I don’t mind paying an extra charge, but the waiter did not say anything. After bringing this to his attention, he mentioned they do not charge extra for this at another location he used to work at. He had to go get the manager. Then the manager proceeded to explain that this is what they do and that it costs extra for veggies. Really? That much? But he did remove the charge from the bill. Los Cucos, for the money there are way better places in the area. I will give you credit your green sauce is good!

Service and food is always outstanding. We have been visiting this place for the last 12 years but their prices seem to be on a continual rise. Not sure that it’s worth the $$$ anymore, but always enjoy it while I’m there.

Came here for a family dinner and the food tonight was not good. The beef fajitas were not edible, they had a very strange taste as if the meat was bad. The carnitas were almost completely fat, though they did get replaced with better pieces. The rest of the food served was sub-par as well, overall this place is one of the worst places to get Mexican food in Katy.

The place itself looks nice, it looks tidy. My sister and I went there for a late lunch/early dinner at 4pm and as expected, the place was empty. Like always they took our drink orders and gave us complimentary chips before the meal! They accidentally brought my sister sweet tea instead of unsweet iced tea, but that’s okay. Since the place wasn’t packed they came out with our order real fast. My sister ordered the chicken quesadilla and I ordered something from the healthier side of the menu, the Grilled Fish and Vegetable Plate. My sister said her dish tasted fine but I didn’t really care for my dish… they didn’t specify the type of grilled fish it was on the menu but apparently when they grilled it they left the bottom of the fillet covered in black a layer of black which made the fish taste over cooked and burnt. It was too salty too. The vegetables were fine but the whole dish was covered in some watered down tomato sauce which was also very salty. The tortilla soup that was a side to the dish didn’t taste all that great either. Overall the place was nice looking and service was average, but my dish was way too salty and I just didn’t care for it at all. I don’t recommend ordering from the healthy options at this place. A Mexican restaurant just isn’t the right place to eat healthy at.

Downgraded to a 3 because the fajitas and chips are just terrible. Enchiladas and stuffed avocados are still good and I enjoy the margarita nights.

The food was great. We enjoyed chips and salsas very much. We ordered the stuffed chicken jalapeños, chimichangas, tacos, burrito, and chalupas. The food was very good and great service. $ 1.99 margaritas on Mondays and Tuesdays are another great reason to try them out.

Mothers Day brunch disaster. Sat us in the back where there was a large monster drink. Large monster drink and a toddler do not mix. Spilt all over us. Drinched in monster. I mean soaking wet, sticky and smelled disgusting. Our very nice dry clean clothes ruined for the evening. I asked for a manager, did they ever come? No. Let us just leave drenched in this monster drink they never picked up. So disappointed beyond words. There goes my Mother’s Day celebratory experience. Thanks.

I brought my grandmother here for her birthday last night. My mom and grandfather came along with us. There was no wait, but I will assume it was because we went on a Wednesday night. My grandparents had chicken fajitas for two. They devoured all their food pretty quick, so it’s safe to say they really liked their food. My mom ordered the grilled chicken breast off the healthy menu and I ordered the spinach enchiladas. I’m a fan of spinach enchiladas and this was my first time having them from Los Cucos. They were so good! They are served with just a tad of white rice, black beans, a salad, and the spinach is wrapped with whole wheat tortillas. A healthy meal that tastes amazing — it was glorious. The service was fast and friendly. I’ll definitely be back for more spinach enchiladas in the future.

I used to come here ALL the time when I lived in Katy, but it’s been about eight years. They still have my favorite… this meal for two that comes out on a big metal heating box with more meat than you can imagine. I love, love their salsa, the table-side guacamole, and the service is still just as wonderful as I imagine it. It’s maybe a little ‘chain-y’ but overall, still a great option for Mexican in the area.

This place is the standard by which other places can be measured in terms of many things like food quality, service, atmosphere, prices. You tend to know a place you’ve gone to your entire life, and that says a lot about the business when it’s been around that long and stayed that consistent. I know a lot of people may disagree based on all the negative reviews around the city, but if you look at their history, their success, those things can speak for themselves if you’ve never been and are considering any Los cucos. I’m sure diff locations vary in management and maybe taste, but you can certainly rely on the olé test of local crowds who absolutely pour in here all the freakin time. Anyone who’s seen my reviews know I’m a complete tortilla snob, and this my friends is the mold from which I was cast, these are the right kind of tortillas(flour). Heavy, slightly crispier, maybe even what one could call greasy(not really) but made with lard, the outside has that grainy, rub off texture. Very very specific but these are REAL tortillas and you won’t find these commonly; they are the taco aficionado from San Antonio premium choice, grade A, 6 of 5 stars! That’s the number one reason to come here, but surely not the only one. Better than most, in fact maybe the best quality beef fajitas, just pull apart tender and packed with flavor. You get a lot of choices with the fajitas for two but one of my favorites is the Saltillo topping of mild poblano peppers, Monterrey jack cheese, bacon(really it’s more like bacon jerky, are you kiddin me wow, wait til u see the hunks/slabs of it!), sweet onions, out on a hot skillet, talk about heaven. And let me tell you it is always so so fresh, that’s obvious. And a whole extra plate per person of fresh chopped lettuce, guacamole, pico and beans, usually sour cream too depending on where you go, you might have to ask for it. Love the all-in atmosphere, it looks like mexico and sounds like it with mariachi playing around, and always excellent service, they are friendly, punctual and well dressed(i like a bit of old school dress up). Oh and if you want a menu with prices go to their website and view the printable version of their menu for your location, not the html or flash version. But price wise they give you some of the tastiest chips and guac(green-sauce) free and the quality for the price is excellent for all the food we’ve tried. They clearly have a bright future here and are here to stay, luckily!

Not as good as La Finca, but still an okay choice for Tex Mex. Nothing here stood out as excellent, or that was better than anywhere else. It is good Tex Mex and if you are hungry and in the area…

First of all, being able to accommodate a table of 8 on Mother’s Day afternoon with only a 15 minute wait gets you 3 stars, maybe 4 from the start! I have to say that the service and food gives this place a solid 4 in my book. After leaving church, my family decided to dine out. Of course, you know this will involve a wait. At first, we had decided to go to Red Lobster around the corner, but they claimed that the wait for 8 would be an hour. Maybe I was with adults, a little mall browsing would make this okay, but with four kids in our party, that was not desirable, so my brother and his wife made a quick hop to Loc Cucos to see what the wait would be there. They had went to the Old Katy location and liked the food and selection there and felt it would accommodate everyone’s taste buds. Soon as we hopped back in the car, drove over there, and got the kids out the car, our table was ready. Spectacular!!! I was hungry! Soon as you walk in, the smell of fajitas only makes you hungrier, so baskets of warm tortillas chips are a necessity as you comb through the vast menu. I think we had the waiter bring us 9 baskets of tortilla chips and several cups of salsa and guac without complaint. Mind you, this was Mother’s Day, so they had plenty of other tables to wait on. However, our waiter and bus boy still tried to get us the right drink orders and get our refills to us in a timely fashion despite the crowd. #Bravo Before we decided on our entrees, I actually took into account some of my fellow Unilocaler’s reviews. I really wanted some sort of seafood but figured that some sort of authentic Mexican dish would be more palatable. Therefore, I was torn between the Plato Bom Bom which is served with bacon wrapped shrimp, a taco, and enchilada or the Del Rio which is seafood enchilada. Upon the suggestion of our waiter, I went with the Plato Bom Bom and asked to have the tomatillo enchilada changed(which was done without charge). The fam ordered some a mixed fajita plate, some seafood chimichangas, a couple of kids burgers with fries and kids chicken tender basket. For the price, the kids definitely got their money’s worth. The burgers were huge with a nice size patty with tomato, lettuce and pickle. Only thing: they only provided ketchup. We had to request mustard and mayonnaise. When it finally came, it was in a bowl, which is actually wasteful. It would be better to have containers for the customer to squeeze as much as they want. Chicken tenders seemed tender enough for a 4 year old to devour on her own, so I guess that’s enough to know. Chimichangas looked interesting, but plate looked pretty dull until my sister in law asked for chile con queso. Once she poured it over the chimi, the plate had more color and really made the chimi stand out. Supposedly it was okay, but not as good as the one at the Katy location. Even though my Bom Bom shrimp was divine, they’re wasn’t enough of it. Three aren’t enough. The beef taco – tasty and the enchilada – very cheesy, but if you’re meat eater, the fajitas are probably a better option. My mom let me taste a piece of her beef from her plate and it was VERY delicious – tender, seasoned to perfection, and lean. I would go back to get the fajitas on the next visit. Although the service was adequate and the food satisfying, the bathroom did need a little more attendance(i.e. toilet tissue on the floor, no paper towels) and the waiter had a lot of stains on his shirt. When I saw his shirt, I was expecting an unappetizing meal – honestly. Appearances are important. Luckily the food did not match his uniformed appearance. Will return and try out just the fajitas and definitely the chips with the queso! BTW: The lime pepperminst are delish. Don’t forget to get a handful after dining!

This is one of my family’s favorite places for Tex-Mex. Service is quick, prices are average, food is great! We just went today and I had the chicken enchilada & chicken/beef fajita special, daughter had the chimichanga, wife had the salad with chicken. All dishes were cooked just right and we walked out with three boxes of leftovers. We also had some chips & queso as an appetizer, and the cheese does not taste like the«food service cheese» I have seen noted on other Cucos reviews. One of the favorites of Los Cucos is the stuffed/fried avocado. I have had this before and highly recommend it. I also recommend the Enchiladas Del Rio if you like seafood. The serving sizes are usually huge, no matter what you order. The restaurant near Katy Mills can seat a large number of customers, but one of the things I like is that there are so many servers working at this location, you really do not have to wait very long to place your order or wait for the food to arrive. They also have a bar and a private room for parties. I do recall the location having a good Sunday breakfast, and will have to try that again sometime.
