I’ve passed this truck/trailer so many times and wondered about the food. Well the other day my wife was craving gumbo. I went to Unilocal to view what the Unilocalers were saying about this place. After viewing a few reviews, I decided to try it out. Since it was during the Holidays, I called first to make sure they were there. The lady that answered the phone was very nice and personable. When I arrived, she asked if I was the person that she spoke with on the phone. I really appreciated her for asking because that tells me she likes to connect with her customers. Please note that I am big on customer service and it’s really appreciated when the individual is naturally a warm person. I kind of glanced over the menu to see if I wanted to try something in addition to the the gumbo and I decided to try the catfish Po-boy! The gumbo was excellent and the po-boy was excellent. The 16oz gumbo for 8.50 or whatever seem to be a little pricey but it was good. The answer is YES I will return!

I drive by this place quite often, but finally decided to stop for some gumbo. It looked promising. While the service is very friendly, the gumbo was not quite what I expected(see picture). While it was tasty, it was more like a sausage soup with a nice crab claw. It was watery like a soup, not the least bit thick at all like I expect from a gumbo I dont think roux was involved at all in this recipe. Also, I prefer crab meat ready to eat, I dont want to crack a crab claw in my gumbo to go. I understand there are different styles of gumbo. I didn’t care for this one. Also, it was overpriced in my opinion. 8.95 for a regular. The three stars was for a tasty sausage/crab claw soup and friendly service. I would give the gumbo 1 star. Sorry, I would have liked to have given this place a better rating, but I might go back and try something else.

You pricey suckah! How dare you cost so much for every seafood item!!! I know I am not in New Orleans anymore, and I have to pay accordingly, but darn… bruh…dang…come on! Price aside, I must admit, this New Orleans native does know what he is doing with boiling seafood. I hate paying a lot for stuff that I like, but every now and then, you must simply indulge in your desires. I was actually convinced to allow a little of money flow away from me since this place bears the name of my hometown. I spoke with the person with the wooden paddle and cauldron and simply asked one question «Where are you from?» His was response and accent validated his New Orleans’ origin so he now had my money, but also had the blessed curse of having a high taste standard for letting people know you are from my stomping grounds. I will not prolong my prognosis of the shrimp and crawfish… they are good. They have good flavor and balance all around, so I would definitely give them another go. However, I cannot give them more than 3 stars because the food is just too high for my liking for me to indulge at this place as often as I would like to in order to get that taste that I desire. All in all, if you just feel like splurging on something that will taste good, you will be pleased with these people if the same guy is boiling the seafood. I may just give their poboy a try and update my review accordingly. Give them a try.

Went over from some crawfish on Final Four weekend. I couldn’t have been more pleased. I’m a Nola kid and those were some seriously perfect crawfish. Add to that there is a New Orleans style snowball stand next door. I’ll be there every weekend in the Spring.
