The first thing you notice driving up to Waimea Canyon General Store are the huge Hawaiian shirts out front( ). I didn’t look if those were for sale, but nice 100% cotton Hawaiian shirts are available for $ 20. It’s like a more upscale ABC(no bobble-head Obamas) with clothing and knick-knacks. Definitely worth a stop if you’re on the west side of Kauai.

So my wife says to me, «I want to go to this gift shop». Oh great, a gift shop what is so special about a gift shop? Well… this place was pretty nifty. First thing you see is the huge, no — massive, no — f’ing massive, Hawaiian shirt on the front wall. Good selection — and prices! — on stuff. Bought a nice Hawaiian shirt for like 20 bucks here — every other place on the island we went to was well north of that dollar figure for a shirt. The wife wanted to come here as this place was mentioned in a few books as being a very good place to get handmade jewelry made on Niihau. Very, very nice selection(I guess, this is chick stuff we’re talking about here). The wife bought a set of earrings for about $ 65 which is on the low-end, price wise here. I think, technically, this is a separate entity(Forever Kauai?) within the General Store. Here’s my tip — if you are driving up to Waimea Canyon, go through Kekaha and up 55. 550 is indeed the prettier drive — but it seemed MUCH nicer when you are going back down the hill like what we did.

A very cute store with lots to choose from, after your long and twisty drive from seeing the Waimea Canyon. The funniest thing and the real reason I stopped was the giant and I mean giant shirt that was hung on the outside wall,(to attract attention) and it got me to stop! They had lots of touristy kind of shirts and stuff, but the cool thing I thought was the unique handbags they carried! Most evening bags that you can’t fit much in but very unusual and unique!
