Disappointing and bland. Let me start by saying that I went in on a Saturday afternoon around 3. My husband, son and I were all hungry and looking for a late lunch. We decided on Mexican food thinking that it is usually a great choice. We decided to try some place new. When we arrived to Tacos El Gordo we were greeted by friendly and helpful waitstaff. However, this is where the positive ended. First, I ordered a water and there was clearly something on the rim of my glass.(This always sucks because it makes me question cleanliness.)Then, we then ordered. My husband had the Carne asada fajitas. The meat was tough, the food was temperate, and just bland. The rice and beans had NO flavor. My son is only 2, so he had the cheese quesadilla. It was fine but for $ 5. This is a rip o ff. I mean seriously, five bucks for a flour tortilla and piece of cheese. Never again. Then, I had 3 tacos. I ordered Carne asada tough and bland. I had the chicken which also was flavorless, and the shrimp which was ok. Overall it was a bland and unremarkable experience. It was also overpriced. We spent over $ 30 and only my husband ordered a soda. This will definitely not be a place I EVER go back too.

Great place. Been coming here since they first opened and the food has always been great. I even got a shirt after coming in so many times! Hope this place sticks around!

If i could give more stars i would! This place is amazing! The service is good, place is clean and the food omg… I ordered one vampiro(hard tortilla with cheese and meat) and meat tacos… They were really delicious. They gave us complementary charro beans and chips & salsa. For dessert i had flan, one of the best desserts i’ve ever tried! Our server was extremely friendly too. I also ordered some more food-to-go for my husband and he loved his tacos(pastor and meat), everything was well packed and they even sent some chips & salsa for free. My check was total $ 18, i left $ 3 as tip and felt horrible after coming home and looking at all the food they gave me. I will definitely go back!

Awesome service, the manager was very nice and cared a lot about the food. Horchata was on point and the tamales were fresh and delicious. Can’t recommend this place enough, will be eating here again on my way out.

Really good and very authentic! I feel like I fell upon a hidden gem. We just missed brunch so we had lunch and their guacamole is really something to talk about. Look forward to checking this place out again for breakfast.

Big sign on front of building still says BREAKFAST. My husband waited until they opened at 10:30, the woman working there refused to make him the breakfast to go we had enjoyed many times in the past. Very bad restaurant, not very smart owners!

This is my 2nd visit. The 1st was a trip through the drive thru and I wasn’t impressed. My wife, however, loved the place and wanted to go back. This time we ate inside to eat for her birthday lunch. I had the carne asada vampiros and al pastor taco. Both were delicious. I also loved the green and red sauces. She enjoyed the El Gordo Supernachos.

This is exactly how I like my taco’s. Very delicious, reminds me of Torchy’s in Austin. The owner is very involved and cares about the food. Really not seeing where the negative reviews came from. Maybe they prefer the bland cookie cutter Mexican restaurants that all serve the exact same super greasy stuff? Idk.

Me and a few coworkers grabbed a few tacos and nachos for lunch. We had a variety of tacos. They were all amazing. The nachos were simple but good. The sauces that are in the side were nice additions. Very authentic Mexican Good price and very fast as well

Hands down the best Mexican food in the GNO area. Exceptional service generous portions. My wife and I ordered nachos and an entrée to split and took one home for dinner.

Alex R and JO need to stick to places like chi chis and chevy’s because clearly they don’t like authentic Mexican. This is not tex mex, or Taco Bell it’s authentic Mexican. If you are looking for fresh, quality food this is the place. Tacos El Gordo is a café style place that serves fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a very casual atmosphere. You can’t go wrong here.

I stopped by for lunch one day and I tried the carne asada and al pastor tacos… Both were pretty bad. I could tell the meat was not freshly prepared, the carne asada was black in color(gross!) Their guacamole looks and tastes like it came straight out of a bag. I now see why I was the only person in there during a time that should have been a lunch rush…

I finally found a delicious Mexican food restaurant in the New Orleans area! I’m from SoCal and recently moved from PHX so I’m always craving Mexican food. Big portions that are reasonably priced. My boyfriend had the super burrito which made chipotle burritos look small. I had the super nachos and couldn’t finish! So good! The authentic guacamole was perfect and the charro beans were great. Had the Jamaica agua fresca to wash it down. The best cheat meal ever! Can’t wait to go back and try the other menu items. Great service from the owner and they also have a drive thru!

I stumbled upon this place almost by accident(as most of my discoveries) and was pleasantly surprised by the genuine Mexican breakfast. The tortillas were hand made and when I asked for an extra side of carne asada they gladly added and it was worth the extra charge! Owners are very friendly and you won’t regret eating here at all!

Very clean, friendly, and with very good food. Hopefully they will do better that the previous places to use this building. I had the Eggs El Gordo, which pretty much are Huevos Rancheros. Two eggs on fried tortillas with Ranchero sauce(which was actually kinda spicy), and sides of refried beans and fried tortillas soaked in a mild hot sauce and topped with cheese. I can’t recall the name of the second side dish. Chilli-something-or-another. There was also a bunch of piping hot small flour tortillas to round things out. I’ll be by again soon to check out their lunch/supper offerings. Me, I’m pretty thrilled as it is to find a Mexican place open for breakfast. If you’re in a hurry, they do have a drive thru.
