Jack’s Cozy Cafe

I wish I could give Jack’s a better rating because I grew up going here as a kid and have fond memories made there; however, the last time I visited Jack’s really turned me off. The service was TERRIBLE! Our food took twice as long as you would think for breakfast and we were one of two parties in the restaurant. Then when I asked if our food was almost finished because we were supposed to be somewhere soon, the waitress gave me a dirty look. The rest of our service was terrible! Hate to admit it, but we left no tip for the first time. I have never met someone so rude! I gave it 3 stars because I still like their food, but not sure I will be going back.

I come here everyother month or so for breakfast with my family. Whether it’s a small group of 3 or up to 9 with the little ones, they’re always accommodating. Very friendly atmosphere, Chef Mark makes his rounds to say hello or lend a hand telling the specials and welcoming first timers!
The food is always wonderful, and I like the coffee.

Great place to stop for breakfast. Friendly staff and excellent food. Breakfast burrito and breakfast hash were highlights.

Carpet is filthy. Prices are not cheap and for this restaurant, they should be cheap.

I decided to given this restaurant a try based upon the reviews listed on this site. Yet, my overall experience didn’t match the rate given by my fellow peers. The orange juice sucked! It taste like powder mixed in water and the meal was mediocre. I believe it could do better for a small business, but I won’t be running to this place again for a meal. On a positive note, the waitress wasn’t bad. Thus, my three stars.

My friend and I recently ran a half marathon in Kenosha and went here for a post race brunch. It had really good recommendations here on Unilocal,so I thought we’d try it out.
Overall, we were pretty disappointed.
The service was poor. Our waitress acted like we were an inconvenience. Even though there were only about 5 other tables in the whole place, we were never asked if we needed refills on coffee/​water. When we asked for them, the staff acted like we were bothering them.
In terms of the food, my friend had the eggs, bacon, has brown, and pancakes. She said the pancakes were really good-​they didn’t even need syrup. However, her meal was supposed to come with hash browns, and it didn’t at first. The waitress apologized and told her they would be right up. By the time they came, her eggs were cold. The bacon that came with her meal was very thin and not very good.
I had the eggs benedict and a side of house toast. When I asked for the side of the house toast, the waitress said, almost in an exasperated tone, «Well you know the eggs benedict is on a biscuit, right?» Yes, thank you, I know what eggs benedict is… but I’d like a side of toast too (I really like toast and I had just run a half marathon!).
The house toast was really good. The eggs benedict was ok. The meal came out lukewarm. The benedict sauce was pretty thick and not the best I’ve ever had. The canadian bacon was too thick on the benedict. The hash browns that it came with were ok.
Overall, pretty disappointed. I won’t’ even comment on the interior, since I knew it was going to be a dive when we decided to go there. But I’m all for dive restaurants, as long as the food and service is really good. Jack’s cozy café definitely fell short on both accounts. Would not go back.

Excellent breakfast! Don’t let the outside appearance of this place slow you down. Friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Get off the highway, drive past the chains, and go to Jack’s! There’s even music now.

Was up here for a swim meet and found Jack’s cozy café for breakfast! Glad we did! Service was amazing! The «brazza» was the best breakfast dish ive ever had! The bacon and pastries were to die for! Mark is a pleasure and we will definitely come back if in the area!

I enjoyed this place. this place fits it’s name, «cozy». More than a few things on the menu I am looking forward to trying. I had the croissant crust topped with sausage gravy, two cheeses, sausage peppers and onions. YUM. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars, the coffee was average at best. I do recommend the food for sure.

Definitely recommend this place. Great breakfast, nice staff and love the trivia while you wait for your food. Banana foster French toast is a must when available. Also tried the kitchen sink hash, very good! Trying their lunch menu next time for sure.

I had wanted to try this place out for a while as they have breakfast pizza but it is a little out of the way. I was able to get out here finally and despite the exterior, it is a pretty good restaurant for breakfast and brunch. We were seated quickly and they have baked good specials along with their daily food specials. My wife had the breakfast tacos while I went with the brezza. It’s a flaky crust with a sausage gravy topped with a veggie omelette, your choice of pig meat (ham, bacon, sausage) and melted mozzarella cheese. It’s less of a breakfast pizza but more open faced omelette on top of a flattened croissant. Still, it was tasty. The staff was pretty good on refills and providing recommendations. All of the veggies are freshly cut and cooked to order. Overall, a place to visit if you’re in the area.

I wasn’t expecting much based on the looks. I ordered the omelette with sausage, peppers, onions and cheddar, and their fried potatoes. My wife ordered a similar omelette with pancakes. The omelettes were prefect. Very little Brown marks. A blonde omelette is impossible for good chefs to make. This was a prefect chef. The sausage was excellent. All the vegetables were spot on fresh and evenly diced. The fried potatoes were chunks of potatoes with onions. Some of the potatoes were a little over cooked, but this far better than any hi end breakfast place. The pancakes were so delicious that no syrup was necessary. I also recommends their own toast if you are getting toast.
It is a very small place. While it was very slew when I went there, I’m guessing seating may be tough if they are big crowds.
The chef came out if the kitchen. Turns out he had extensive training in fine dining.

Great little breakfast spot. I had the Italian Sausage omelet which was great — especially the house toast (thick Italian bread toasted and buttered). My wife had the Biscuit and Gravy — VERY GOOD. We are from the South and I am usually disappointed by Midwest Biscuit n Gravy, but this was the real deal! My boys had pancakes and a skillet, both very good. Good service too — interior is a bit dated and cramped but will be returning soon!

Decent food, tiny little spot, prices weren’t bad at all. No music which was weird but whateva.

This place is great! I haven’t found a thing on the menu that isn’t good. Everyone seems to know each other and willingly include you in on any conversation. Be sure to take home one of Lina’s muffins, they’re to die for. This is my favorite breakfast place in Kenosha.

Super small place but the muffin I had (orange cranberry I think) was amazing. I showed up fifteen minutes before closing time. Since the owner was kind enough to stay late to make me breakfast he gets and extra star for that. Good food for cheap. If you are a foodie in Kenosha you should try this place at least once.

The definition of cozy is Jack’s! Do you remember that TV Show Cheers where everyone knows your name? Well this is the breakfast version of that famous bar on television.
When we walked in one of the patrons sitting at a table jumped up and asked us if we wanted a booth. We said yes and she immediately started cleaning the table for us. I have never seen another customer jump up and clean a table, while she was waiting for her breakfast. I said to the lady, «You do not have to do that!» The waitress looked at me and said, «You can tell her not to do that but she is still going to clean your table!» She even put out new menus with napkins and utensils. She even offered to grab us some coffee. I have never ever seen a customer do something like that ever. This is what gives this place its cozy charm. Everyone eating here cares about everyone else… this is what the world use to be like and it gives me some hope for humanity.
I also noticed that there was a wall of coffee mugs with names and nicknames on it. Yes the locals all have there own printed coffee mugs. How did I know this? The cook came out and said, «Hey Tom how is it going?» I looked over and Tom was drinking out of a mug that had «Cigar Tom» printed on the side. That is really cool. I wish I was a local and lived closer because I would love to have my own coffee mug on the wall here. Now I just need to come up with a fun witty name.
I want to keep talking about how cozy this place is. Someone sneezed and the whole restaurant said, «Bless you!» That person sneezed again and I found myself joining the whole restaurant by saying, «Bless you!» It was something you would see in a movie but I would have never expected to see something like this in person. Everyone sat at there own tables but you could instantly start a conversation with the person at the table next door and yes we did. My little one loved this and joined in on a million conversations.
While we were waiting for our breakfast. This sweet lady Shirley gave our daughter a handmade doll (they are for sale at the front of the restaurant). Honestly things like this do not happen in the real world, so it is amazing to see how nice the locals here at Jack’s Cozy Café are. This was one of the coolest things ever. My little one was so excited because my wife and here had breakfast here a week ago and my little one had told my wife that she wanted that doll for her birthday. My little one told the story and everyone in the restaurant wished her a Happy Birthday. It was really sweet. The cook came out and told her that for her birthday they would let her sit in a chair attached to the wall and everyone could sing to her all day. My little one was a little scared but then he said he was teasing her and that if she came back he would buy her breakfast for her birthday on the actual day.
My daughter made a thank you card for Shirley and delivered it to her table. Everyone thought that was so cute. Another gentleman came over with a couple of pictures of Scooby-​Doo for my little one to color. She colored one for him. This place is just perfect. This same man came back later with a bag of Skittles for my little one’s birthday present. The customers in here make this place amazing. He went to the counter and bought a bag from the local charity and then gave that bag to my daughter. Remember Andy Griffifth’s Mayberry, RFD? Yes it was just like that show. All I needed was for the Sheriff and his goofy deputy to show up and cause some trouble.
Okay I must talk a little about the food. The food here is not going to win any blue ribbons on creativity. It is just a simple breakfast that your Mom would make for you on a Sunday morning. It is also very affordable too. $ 10 will get you a full breakfast for 3 people. You can not get that anywhere. I ordered a sunnyside egg, crispy hashbrowns, sourdough toast, and grilled polish sausage. The egg was cooked perfect and hashbrowns were cooked in butter. Yum! The kids menu is really affordable. My little one got more food then me for $ 2 bucks less… I want to be under 12 again. Luckily my little one could not finish one of her pancakes. I will tell you that the pancakes are the star of the show here. In fact, when I go back I will have just the pancakes or substitute them for my hashbrown/​toast side. Yes they were that good.
If you are looking to go back in time to a place where neighbors cared about everyone then this is the place. Jack’s Cozy Café is truly cozy and is more of a neighborhood meeting spot where everyone comes to eat and meet together. Places like this do not exist and it is incredible to know that places like this truly exist and not in some made up fantasy world. We can not wait to come back and maybe one day I will have my own mug up there on that wall.

This place is the quintessential small diner. Most everything is homemade & I’ve never been disappointed in a meal. The «Heartstopper» is a personal favorite. Plus they do special «supper club» evenings, which can make for a great homemade meal with plenty of courses to fill you up. My only gripe is that the food isn’t 100% consistent. Amount of ingredients & size of ingredients will vary from time to time. But that is to be expected when everything is homemade. All in all, i’d say try it out for yourself & you may be pleasantly surprised. Just don’t be in a hurry, like other reviewers have said. Breakfast can take over a hour sometimes. Outside of that, its a solid grade A!

When I picture Kenosha, Jack’s Cozy Café is definitely a prime example of what type of place it is. Older, blue-​collared, some rough edges but all in all, a small town feel. Heck, the word «cozy» in the café’s name says enough! Truly it’s «Where Friends Gather,» per its motto. Everyone in here is a regular… with exception for myself, my sister and my boyfriend. They sure didn’t act any different or stare but instead scooted over and made space for us. After all, the place is only made up of 10 tables so that you can easily become one of them. With mugs reading the regular’s names on them, it may become a bit awkward but don’t let it get to ya! Again… Cozy.
Once you check out the menu options, you become even cozier between your new friends who argue over which item you should try: a 60 year old motorcyclist with tattoos ‘n mohawk & purple-​haired punk girl with a limp and 2-​year old in her arms. They not only offer customer diversity but Cholesterol free options (a list of ‘em). Yet for the real stuff, look to the following page where you got «The Kitchen Sink» (it’s a surprise – a mashup of their favorites served with 2 eggs and toast), «The Heart Stopper» (a 5 egg omelet with the works and toast), & Italian Hash (Italian sausage and spices simmered together and topped with eggs and mozzarella cheese with house toast – after all, Kenosha is known for it’s Italian community).
With that said, I have stop for a moment of silence to thank Jack for the Brezza. What’s a Brezza? You got it: A croissant crust topped with sausage gravy, two cheeses, sausage, bacon or ham with onions, green peppers and mushrooms. Picture a pizza for breakfast that goes for only $ 6.50 a personal pan! You can’t beat that! [See business pics to believe it]
I was pleased with my visit and knew it was my kinda place when my aunt recommended it. Check it out for yourself to not only support the family owned businesses and get a reasonable, delicious breakfast but also to see a friendly side of Kenosha!
