I had just landed in Kenosha to film the psychological thriller«The Book of Birdie» in the old and spooky part of the Kemper Center, so the first night in town(1÷7÷16) the cast and crew got together for a quick dinner at TG’s, a long-time local establishment. What fun! The front room is long and narrow and dominated by a beautiful old bar, plank floors, and loads of cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a sepia-toned photograph from the good old days. It was the perfect complement to the January cold and snow outside, and set just the right tone for a long table of chattering actors who were getting to know each other. The menu is fresh and hearty bar food, done well and presented well. Service was fast and friendly. I’m partial to fried cod whenever I see it on the menu and mine was perfection, light and crisp, as were the fries. The coleslaw was a bit on the sweet/wet side, but still good. Over its half-century as a restaurant, TG’s has played host to a long list of celebrities, politicians, professional athletes, and — yes — even movie actors, yet it retains its standing as an authentic neighborhood gathering spot. My kind of place.

Known for the Italian beef. When you order it you get a side of plain chips and a jar of some tasty giardiniera.

Had some very bad experiences here. Use to come all the time and sing their praises, but everything has gone downhill. The service and management on duty was extremely rude and it took forever to get our below mediocre food. Will never go back!

It’s a decent little bar. One gripe I have is that they don’t stock beers that they have signs up for… I’m at a loss on that??? Food has always been decent. Jalapeño deep fried pretzel is really good. Hot beef is good, but I wouldn’t claim best in Kenosha. Service has always been pretty good when I’ve gone.

It’s nice to find a bar & grill that has options for both meat eaters & vegans! Have been here twice on trips to Kenosha. Much better than chain restaurants. The hummus is wonderful.

I’ve tried TG’s a few times for both food and for drinks. The food is okay, I’d say it’s typical bar food. The service, however, is awful. Either the servers/bartenders are downright rude or they’re simply not good at their job — or both. I’ve heard through the grapevine that this is an «insiders» place. If that’s the case, then I don’t want to be part of the group because they’re certainly doing it wrong.

Below avg food. Soup served two min before burger no time to eat. Few of the beers on the board were actually in stock. Clueless wait staff.

Wisconsin day trips are my jam, and let’s be honest, so is beef. How convenient that TG’s boasts«Wisconsin’s #1 Hot Beef.» I love kismet, don’t you? I also love divey bars with affordable but delicious beers. No swill allowed here. Though the hot beef sandwich is no longer less than a buck, it and the other items on the menu are a pretty good deal for the deliciousness that you get, and they have a couple veg. options for my companion including, according to their website, a vegetarian soup every day, and they even have a sandwich that isn’t a token veggie burger. Beers, beef, board games. I’m in.

We moved into the neighborhood a couple of years ago. One night last summer we were walking back from the lake and saw Tg’s. We decided to give them a try. It is a very cute little bar with a lot of history. My boyfriend had to try the hot beef which was AMAZING! I had the cheeseburger salad with creamy garlic dressing. I didn’t think a salad could be that good. Within a week we were craving their food. Over the summer we walked to Tg’s on an almost weekly basis. The only thing is some nights they have like an open mic night and it can be kind of loud and crowded(we try to avoid those nights).

Great tasty food at a very cool old bar. I love the Italian beef sandwiches, and I love that they have sweet potato fries. Good soups & good desserts too.

Move over Chicago Beef lovers, TG’s has simply the best hot beef sandwiches in the Midwest! They also have great«comfort food» daily specials and a great tap beer selection, all reasonably price. The bartenders, owners and wait-staff are wonderful! It’s also a great place to hear live, original music!

Friendly owners, awesome food, nice selection of beers, great, fun atmosphere! Also every month on the first Thursday, they are the generous hosts of the Kenosha Bidal Society, Wisconsin’s original homebrew club! Kudos!

Well I had to give it a try with a bold sign on the structure stating«Wisconsin’s #1 Hot Beef,» and now I would most likely agree. If you don’t mind getting messy or eating a sandwich with a soggy bun, you should try it for yourself. The beef is thinly pulled apart and sits in a salty au jus sace that shoots your sodium levels sky high. For $ 6.95, you can get your own piping hot beef sandwich with chips and a pickle. Signs around the bar promote«Hot Beef .90 cents, $ 1.00 To Go,» as a symbol showing it’s proud history. Going along with what the menu deems as being true, John and Bobby Kennedy would come here to eat a beef and chat with the locals. They have homemade desserts which look delicious(I’ll have to go back for them). The entire place is very clean, has old stained glass windows hanging from the real windows, possesses the average Green Bay Packer paraphernalia, and has Italian Giardiniera mixes on each table to throw on top of any meal. Something that I thought was neat is the bar that is shared with the kitchen. You can watch as the family makes your food. If you have a bigger party, they have a dining room in the back of the place.
