We eat breakfast here about once a month. We usually ask for Michelle because my wife thinks she is so sweet. Food is good. Prices are reasonable, and most importantly service is excellent. Life is short, eat a piece of cake before your meal.

My husband and stopped by there after his appointment at the new VA Hospital in Kernersville, NC. We had eaten there before and the good and service was excellent, BUT this time this was not the case!!! It was after the breakfast rush so we were seated quickly, then we waited for our waitress to acknowledge us. Our server was grossly pre-occupied with a «regular» whom had ate and was enjoying his coffee and conversation with our«waitress» My husband had to get up and get me my straw for my drink, and then after she ignored us long enough and my husband’s empty coffee cup, she refilled the regular’s coffee sat down the pot across the aisle from us I got up and poured his coffee! Sorry service!!! Food was good but we won’t be back anytime soon!!!

Went to breakfast/lunch around 12:00 with wife and son. This place was rock in! Waited for the staff to clear a table. Wife and son both got Mom’s breakfast plate. My wife got 2 scrambled eggs, Neese’s sausage patties, hash browns, a biscuit and coffee. This was s very nice meal. She loved the perfectly cooked sausage patties. Neese’s makes excellent sausage! My son got sausage links, hash browns, grits and toast. Another winner! He wants to return soon. I decided to have lunch. I ordered the chopped steak, fries, a side salad which is extra and a roll. The roll was a basic heat and serve, but the chopped steak was great? It had nice grill marks(not sure how since I didn’t think they had a true grill). Some of the fries were slightly over cooked –others done nicely. The salad was large for a side — lettuce, onions, carrots, cucumbers, cheese and tomatoes with a nice home-made ranch dressing. Based on the price, around $ 20 for 3, and the quality, I felt it was a good value. If you are in the mood for diner style food from a place with an extensive menu for a reasonable price, give Route 66 Diner a try!!!

Normally go here regularly but after last night… Ordered breakfast, took forever to get food. Waitress came by said they had cooked it wrong and were recooking it. 15 minutes later finally comes out with all but sausage I had ordered. 10 more minutes and she brings that out as I cut into my omlette only to find it’s not cooked and egg running everywhere. Fellow was with me then find the same, raw egg… A third time food cooked, this time didn’t even bring the sausage… About an hour and a half, to long for this crap… Ooh and did they comp for their crappy service, not at all. Temperature will have to drop a lot before i go back there.

Delicious breakfast & wonderful service at Route 66 Diner. I stopped by one evening for breakfast. Very affordable. I think I tipped the same dollar amount as my meal!

Great food, different and new foods on the menu that demonstrate their culinary creativity, sweet waitstaff who never let your coffee get cold or your glass get empty. A huge variety of homemade desserts for carryout or eat-in. I love this place.

This is my 3rd morning in a row here, was hesitant because of some of the reviews but I decided to give it try seeing how the worse Waffle House in existence is where I had been going. The top notch service, food cooked as requested and cheaper than Waffle House. May try lunch today. I would also like to add that when I go somewhere to eat I don’t go for the decorations, I go for the food and service. I will also add you can have the best food and if the service is horrible, I won’t be back.

This is a neat little diner. I’ve only been afforded the opportunity to visit it twice, but did get to try their breakfast once and dinner once. Both times I’ve been pleasantly surprised — portions are huge, prices are good and the food is quite good as well! Last visit, we actually had a rather large group and the folks at 66 Diner were extremely accommodating in allowing us complete use of their side room for our party. The menu is extremely varied and will have something available to suit anybody’s tastes.

We stopped here while traveling home because it was easy on/off I-40, and it looked like a good old fashioned diner! But unfortunately the food wasn’t very diner like and it really was not very good at all. The menu was crazy… it had a ton of things on it, but nothing was simple. I hoped that I might be able to get a BBQ sandwich, but the only BBQ sandwich on the menu came with a fried egg on top and a few other odd toppings. Err, no thanks. Then I thought I’ll get a scoop of Chicken Salad on a bed of lettuce, every«diner» has that, right? This one does not. They had Chicken Salad topped with melted cheese on something or other, sitting on top of something else. So I had to ask the waitress to «invent» a plain green salad and put a scoop of chicken salad on it. After she conferred with another waitress, they said it is doable. I got it, it wasn’t too bad but you could see where they laid the red onion over the lettuce with a dirty set of tongs, because there were brown marks in a tong shape on the onion and across the lettuce.(Its like there was chili or something on the tongs.) My honey got a chopped steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, and he couldn’t even eat much of that, it just wasn’t very good. Also the«Route 66 Diner» décor stopped at the front door, the seating area was all like Grandma’s Italian restaurant style. The menu and décor could really use an overhaul here. The need to keep it simple, and use quality ingredients!

If I could I would give this place 0 stars. My family and I waited 30 mins for cold, soggy food. The onion rings were cold and the burgers were on a soggy wet bun. Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time.

Pulling into the parking lot I thought«Great!, An Old School diner!» Which in my mind is a good breakfast of eggs, meat, biscuit, grits and lots of coffee at a good price. This is pretty much what Route 66 is, only the breakfast was not one I’d come back for. I had the breakfast special with two eggs scrambled, grits, whole wheat toast, and coffee. I’m guessing the eggs were real, but if not, I wouldn’t be surprised. The grits were bland. Grits have to be cooked right and these were not. I liked the whole wheat toast which came smothered in melted butter, but if I had not loved lots of butter, this may not have been suitable. About all I can say is it was breakfast. Route 66 does deliver on the old school diner expectations of an inexpensive meal with fast service and a coffee cup that’s never empty, but don’t expect the food to taste all that great.

So I specifically signed up for a Unilocal acct after eating here, yes it was that bad. The food here makes Waffle House look like a gourmet restaurant. Sausage links tasted like they were microwaved, grits were so runny I could have drank them with a straw, and the bacon was burnt. Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him? Pro — The server was nice and I liked the coffee mug.

Once again, when the sweet tooth craving hits, and we need the fix, we go to Route 66! Seriously, their cakes are not house made but instead come from a bakery in High Point. My personal favorite is the Butter Pecan. They will always have 6 – 8 different ones on hand and always extremely fresh! Tonight was a traditional white with chocolate icing. The slices are oversized and paired with a fresh cup of coffee you can’t go wrong! Do yourself a favor, when you’re in kernersville, and don’t want to go to GSO or W-S, try them out!

I did not like the décor and the location of the place, Food was good. I had a turkey wrap with onion rings, that was tasty. Service is ok, but sometimes it should be more polite and friendly.

We stopped by today for a bite of lunch, and were more than a little disappointed in both the food and the service. We ordered the Taco Salad($ 7.75), a bowl of Chili($ 4.95), and a Hot Dog($ 2.75) with mustard & kraut. The Taco Salad was simply not worth close to $ 7.75 — there was only a medium amount of chili or cheese, and there was no salsa, nor was there any Texas Peter Sour Cream. Ended up being a scoop of chili, a little lettuce, a little tomato, and some kind of dressing, with a bunch of colored chips. Meh, indeed! The bowl of Chili was decent, but definitely nothing special, and rather under seasoned — Wendy’s is better. The Hot Dog was a sad puppy — a rather stale bun, a decent enough wiener, and came to the table initially without the kraut. Not good, and over priced, as well. Wouldn’t come back except maybe for a breakfast meal — they serve it all day, and some of the passing plates looked pretty good.

I enjoyed my first visit to the diner. It was seat yourself and we were given menus pretty quickly. Service overall was a little slow but friendly. They also do not hover over you. I started with the house salad. It had a mix of several types of lettuce which was nice. The tomatoes were very fresh and tasted great. I had the chicken salad sandwich with onion rigs. The menu said the rings were hand breaded so I had to try them. They were delicious and I would order them again. I loved the chicken salad. It is the old fashioned style of chicken salad without the bells whistles of grapes or nuts. It comes on rye bread which is then griddled. I had to order cake since I saw it calling me from the time I walked in the door. All of their cake comes from local bakeries. I tried the butter pecan cake. It was almost perfect. The cake was moist and full of pecans and the frosting was a delicious caramel, but when you put them together it was too sweet. I would eat here again.
