A must do in the Florida Keys!!! General Facts: Christ of the Abyss is a 8 ½ foot, 4,000 pound bronze sculpture of Jesus Christ that stands in 25 feet of water off of Key Largo, Florida. It is located near Dry Rocks, about six miles east-northeast of the Key Largo Cut, in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. I was very fortunate to finally visit the Christ of the Abyss after wanting to go for many years! We went on my fiancé’s boat. We looked for the coordinates on the web and simply followed them. When you arrive you will see a good number of ball boat bouees set up with a rope which allows you to tie up. They then have a floater which says«Statue» which marks the spot. It’s a really cool spot if you are an amateur snorkeler. The water is 25 deep so if you are a beginner and feel comfortable being in that depth you should be good. There are tons of colorful fish around which makes the snorkeling adventure very special. It is my understanding you can go on a tour from John Penne camp for $ 35 – 50. If it includes snorkeling gear I say it’s totally worth it. Definitely a place worth checking out if you are in the Key Largo Area. Here is a website with more info: See my video below! Enjoy!

What an impression! I didn’t go out on a tour. My boyfriend knew about this and took a few of us out there to check it out. My cousin was able to get low enough to be right next to him & in turn got an awesome picture underwater! It’s easy snorkeling for beginners. But watch out for the current. Both times we went out there it was pretty strong. Definitely a must see!!! :)
