My partner and I went to BottleCap mainly because we got a delivious burrito at the next-door shop called Bay Boy Burrito. Overall, the drinks here are cheap and the vibe is a very relaxed. The burrito place and BottleCap are independent businesses, but they complement each other. For instance, the burrito place sells Agua Fresca, and the bartender at BottleCap recommended that we go get one of them and she can made a very good mixed drink with it. It’s not like they have the same kitchen, so it’s up to you to do that. The bartender that we had was very friendly and welcoming. This is the kind of place it seems to have regulars, even though it’s a bit removed from the Duval Street craziness. There’s even a pool table indoors and another random bar next-door that has karaōke. First of all, I highly recommend Bay Boy Burrito next-door, and then BottleCap is a great place to grab a beer while you’re eating the food.

Great little bar if your looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Duvall. Super friendly bartender. We sat out on the patio and People watched!

Get a burrito from Bad Boy and have drinks at the Bottle Cap! I especially like places like this that have survived and still do their thing. Nice folks and interesting locals! Inexpensive drinking in Key West! It will not hurt your wallet much. Not fancy or slick so don’t go if that’s what you want.

Late night prowl with straight forward drinks and less of the crazy dribbling and stumbling crowd. FYI, no key lime pie here or thumping music!

A very nice locals bar that is just off Duval street. I really like the different areas to hang, the front bar, patio, and larger room in the back. They have a dance floor here and the facility is overall very nice.

Visited for a Eastern European night on a Tuesday. Great bar with pool table and both indoor and outdoor areas. Pro DJ playing dance hits and good activity on the dancefloor. Recommended by locals and definitely a locals place — met two of the waitresses from my restaurant earlier in the evening. Great service in the bar. «My» bartender was super friendly and perfectioned awesome Negronies throughout the night. Only hesitation with giving it 5* is that if more tourists discover this gem it will turn into a Duval st bar

Any time you can buy a beer on the sidewalk without having to actually walk into a store is a huge plus. Quick service and reasonably priced. The little bar area on the side street is pretty cool too if you are taking the time to sit and enjoy your drink for a few minutes.

Another Key West Bar Card stop. A little out of the way(3 blocks away from the southern end of the Island), but worth it. Erinn was our bartender and we happened to see her 2 awards for KWBC Bartender of the year, which KWBC should totally start up again. Whoever said she is a mixologist is correct — she asked us what we liked and said«leave it up to me, I’ll bring you back something fresh and tasty». Girl was spot on! We said we like cranberry and vodkas, we got a berry vodka drink, wish I could remember what all was in it. if you’re willing to make the trek and deal with a really smoky bar, definitely go. And ask for Erinn. :)

I happened into this spot by chance on a Wednesday night after dinner at a nearby restaurant. After some great eats I was in the mood for an evening cocktail. Upon recommendation from my server at the restaurant I headed over to the Bottle Cap Bar. At first glance it appeared to have a moderately lively crowd mingling outside and in so I proceeded with entry. I walked straight to the bar and asked for the bartender to make me a drink of her choosing. The bartender on duty was Errin who proved to be more than a bartender but a real«mixologist»(…and a real cutey on duty I might add). Her mixing skills caused my one drink request to end up being like three more. I was wearing my, «I hella love Oakland» shirt that night, which sparked up some conversation between myself, the bartender, and others at the bar about California. Well, the time at the bar with the group the rest of that night will forever be etched in my mind’s book of pleasant experiences. There were a few regulars there who were the friendliest group of people but everyone who walked up to order a drink seemed to be pretty chill overall. Since the bar is apparently just one business of 3 adjoined(night club, liquor store, and bar) there was a wide range of age groups and it made for a decent variation in the crowd. The overall vibe that Wednesday night was lively without being over-the-top. I was told that there are different things going on on different nights so it’s worth checking out the other nights to see what those are all about as well. All I know is I expected to just come out for a drink or two before retiring back to my hotel and I ended up shutting the place down with the last few people there! Yes, I literally spent just about a half of a work shift at this place enjoying the good drinks and good conversation with good folk. This place will forever be a must stop on my list when back in town. Cheers!

G&T weak, bar gin a no name brand. Almost had to pour it out except it was $ 6.50 at happy hour. Other drink was a Malibu rum and pineapple juice nearly as bad. Local or not, a place to avoid.

cool local nightclub and bar. On Tuesday nights has a dance club atmosphere(in the groove lounge) and the crowd is very heavily Russian /east European mostly 20-something local immigrant residents, along with some Latin American immigrants. consists of 3 areas: the«Groove Lounge» part is a small club space where a DJ named Anton spins House on Tuesdays starting at 11, «the Bottle Cap» part which is more like a bar with pool table, and a small outdoor seating area. and then there is a liquor store, I did not check that out. The place fills up quite quickly at 11 Tuesday with a highly photogenic crowd(well I can judge that many of the mostly Russian speaking or Latina women here on Tue were very beautiful, if you are interested in the men come judge yourself). early on a Tue evening it was more like a quite neighborhood bar. I understand on Fridays there is a Latin dance night with salsa which a Peruvian local I talked to recommended to me along with the Tuesday«Russian party». well, the Russian party is awesome! nice that it has 3 different areas one can roam around, all of which were packed on a Tue night by about 11:30 or so.

Cool local’s lounge. Fantastic Euro-pop/dance music and a very friendly atmosphere. Definitely a local’s hangout away from the madness of Duval Street. Great drinks, we had G&T’s, Amaretto Sour’s and Jack and Coke’s and all got good measures, mixed well and reasonably priced. We went in 2 nights of our holiday and had a great night both times. The 2 bar staff we spoke to were extremely friendly and polite and seemed genuinely happy to see new customers.

Wandered into the Bottle Cap while waiting for a reservation at nearby Flaming Buoy. Looks like a strip mall from the outside, but inside is a laid back bar with a fun crowd. Kind of a throw back to yesteryear with a solid beer and cocktail selection, interesting paintings on the wall, and a couple of pool tables. Really, not a bad place to grab a drink while waiting for dinner in the area.

A great place to have refreshments and sandwiches. Live entertainment in the main lounge on Friday evenings. Find out what’s going on locally and chat with local residents. Let Richard the bartender prepare your favorite cocktail.

A friendly out of the way place to have a cocktail or to buy a bottle to take back to the hotel room! Small, but not cramped. A few blocks from Duval Street. Definitely a locals hangout. But then again, the locals in Key West are damn nice and welcome anyone who comes in with a smile. The café opens at 5:00 and, well, we were there bboth before that and to drink anyway.

very interesting place in key west. a little apart from duval and its craziest, me and my friend K ended up here cause it seemed laid back and it wasnt packed like almost every other bar in the island. the interior is neat. a little dark. wooden. and i noticed they have a lot of liquor. i also saw their beer list and it was very decent. i got a sierra nevada pale ale. i think for 4 $. i would come back here on a quiet night cause its chill. they have good liquor. a pool table and a jukebox with the entire blue album by weezer.

Meeting some of the locals in Key West(as we always seem to do), we were directed to this place. And why not? We had already been here on a couple of occasions over the years. Well, sort of… we’d been to the liquor store next door to buy libations, never realizing that the lounge next door might be safe to walk into. Define safe. On the surface, the clientele was a bunch of locals intent on having a good time. In reality, it was Stephen King’s «Rock & Roll Heaven.» If you’ve read it, this will mean a lot more. We ran into: –the girl who was one of the crew of our sunset cruise –one of the bartenders in town, who we also kept running into on the streets of Key West –we knew 2 of the members of the band –the guy from Boston who sold my wife a shirt –the man who served us breakfast that same morning And they all not only recognized us, they had no idea how to react to us. Kind of like we had invaded their secret little hideaway and we were going to have to be eliminated. That is, until they actually realized who we were, and then everyone was cool with us. Having been a touring musician for many years, I understand this. You could go to a city and know everyone there, but one of them shows up in a different place, and your brain freezes up like Yul Brenner in Westworld. «Must kill. Draw.» We weren’t supposed to be where the locals hung out. We survived this transgression, I suppose, because we aren’t typical tourists; plus, having struck up lots of conversations with these same people in our initial meetings(to which we could refer in one or two words), and having years of knowledge about the island and its citizens to fall back on, we could prove we were ok. Whew. The scene would have been really interesting(and would have gotten more stars) IF there had been about 400 less cigarettes lit at any given time. I live in a city with an indoor smoking ban, so I might be a little sensitive, but good god people… there isn’t a tobacco shortage. In fact, patrons could save money by just coming in here and inhaling for their fix. But it did drive us out sooner than we would have liked. All in all, this place is a true taste of what it’s like to actually reside in Key West. Which means that after a visit, you might want to start saving for that iron lung and liver transplant. What scares me is that I’ll probably come back on my next trip.
