Small place with good food. If you like posh modern restaurants this is not for you, it is a hole in the wall authentic type of place.

This was a disappointment, I hate writing negative reviews. 1) completely understaffed. When we walked in we had no idea if we could just grab a table. Tables went un-bussed, we had to chase down out check to pay. All the patrons did. 2) there was ants in the sugar 3) I ordered a Cuban sandwich, it was just deli ham, no roasted pork and American cheese instead of swiss. 4) the café con leche — eh 5) no toilet paper in the bathroom. On the up side there is plenty of easy parking, which is huge in this area. And the staff was friendly, just really frazzled

Really good hole in the wall food. I suggest you ride your bikes here rather than driving as that way you’ll be ready for the yummy things they serve here. The especial of the day was ropa vieja, so hard to pass that up. It was tender and yummy just like it should be. Rich and flavorful, not as spicy as some I’ve had but very nice. the DC went for something new, the smoked pork chops. Wow! these were very cool. Lightly smoked, very skinny and then lightly fried. looking for crispy fat? t hen get these. Everything came with rice, beans and sweat plantains. What more could you ask for? well, maybe some café con leche which was really good as well. Now get back on your bike and ride out to mile marker 12 to work work off the great lunch you just had!

Inexpensive no frills home style Cuban food, Recommend the Beef soup & the Ropa Vieja. As other reviewers the location is not that great & the ambience is essentially Zero, but the food makes up for it & as a bonus it is great value.

Locals Cuban café on Stock Island, perfect for breakfast n Cuban café con leche. Chorizo omelet with flavorful, expertly slivered onions that still have a tad bit of toothiness, made our outbound stop wishing we had more meals to explore the offerings. Served with Cuban toast and grits or hashbrowns. Welcoming waitress, and extra dining space in side room with Fox news(yikes) on large flatscreens for your AM catch up. Plastic utensils & styro cups don’t add up for eco environs, fish and blue waters not landfill :( Surprisingly a lot of Keys eateries use plastic cups and cutlery?

If you have a car in Key West and are looking for some cheap authentic Cuban food, definitely recommend driving away from Duval and the tourist areas and make your way to El Mocho. The area is kind of sketchy and restaurant looks like a trailer from the outside, but don’t let that deter you from eating there. Both the inside and kitchen area were clean. The restroom was also much cleaner than I expected. Daily food specials are written on a whiteboard. Waitress understood English which was a plus. I got the Friday oxtail special – best oxtail I’ve ever had. Their mango and mamey milkshakes were amazing. I left the restaurant stuffed and happy. Not a place to go if you’re searching for a fun atmosphere, but for good authentic Cuban, give them a try. El Mocho serves up some home-cooked Cuban food at a great price!
