Nice outdoor seating on their porch. Food was fine, and similar to many other fish places we ate at in Key West

We went for a mid day eat at about 3, and had a short wait of only 5 minutes. Both of us had the hogfish sandwiches, which were very good, but thought that we would skip the Swiss cheese next time, which kind of overpowered the delicate flavor of the hogfish. All the other stuff on the sandwiches, the onions, mushrooms, lettuce and tomato, we would keep. The service was fine. Fun pics on the wall by the bar: old shots of Jimmy Buffet, etc.

We had a magnificent dining experience at this place and the hogfish really was their best menu item. We got blackened hogfish as a starter and it was deliciously meaty, juicy and just the right amount of spice. This dish overshone everything else we ordered, although the pink shrimp and the shrimp and grits were quite tasty as well! The wait staff were friendly and it was cool to have a less tourist-y experience amidst the locals of Key West.

I always go for ambiance over everything else, so this place gets my vote! Hidden down a back road on Stock Key, this weird joint feels pretty authentic. We were camped at Boyd’s nearby, and walked over one night — braving the rotting fish smells in the alley behind Fishbusterz, winding through a dark and mysterious trailerpark neighborhood known as Little Haiti. It felt like a real journey to get here! Hogfish itself is like a weird, blue-collar oasis in a swampy jungle marina — sort of like if Jimmy Buffett opened a Margaritaville in Port-Au-Prince. In other words… AWESOME! Service was friendly, atmo was loud, boisterous and homey, and the menu was pretty extensive. I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the food we ordered — shrimp & grits, conch fritters, conch salad and the hogfish sandwich were all so-so and frankly overpriced, especially the sandwich. But the place was so weird and had such an interesting ambiance, it made up for it. I would probably come here again!

Hogfish will never impress you with its location, setting, or service. But if you want to experience the true roots of Key West before the chaos, this is probably a good choice. We were seated after about a 15 minute wait by a hostess who couldn’t give a heck about service. Our server greeted us promptly and she was very friendly and responsive during the evening but I never got her name. The restaurant is a classic rough and tumble back alley seafood joint that focuses its energy on the food. So we ordered apps that included friend green tomatoes, grouper cheeks, and hogfish fingers. All were excellent and served in generous portions. For dinner we had the hogfish special, shrimp poor boy, lobster roll, and the shrimp Cobb salad. Once again all were excellent and generous. Top this off by a slice of key lime pie and we left happy, full and satisfied. A must visit if you are in town, but dress super casual-grungy and enjoy the local flavor and color.

I was in Key West for a new year’s vacation, and on one of the days we decided to stop at hogfish for a bite to eat after going out for scuba diving. Walked in and we were seated pretty quickly. However, it took several minutes for the server to appear after that. We ordered drinks, and for food we got the ceviche mix, the lobster bisque and the hogfish tacos. I’m sorry to say this but i was thoroughly unimpressed by the food. The ceviche tasted like it had just been dragged out of the freezer and dumped on our table. The tacos were overrated at best. There was no flavor, and the fish even lacked salt. The soup was the only saving grace. The drinks were also average. I loved the ambiance here but I don’t think that’s enough to take me back.

My husband and I came here 6 years ago when we were first dating. Best seafood joint in town with ab amazing view. This place was recommended to us by the cab driver, and he was not wrong. Have to try the hog fish and gator bites. You won’t be disappointed:)

We were staying at Hyatt nearby and were looking for a good place for lunch before heading to airport to go home. I saw on Unilocal that the ratings were good for this, so we decided to try. I am glad we did! The place is right on the marina, and it’s clearly a local hangout(good sign!). Inside was comfortable with open air seating with tiki hut type roof. Loved that part. We started with fried green tomatoes. These were very tasty — perfectly cooked and not greasy. The sauce was drizzled over them in perfect proportion, not too much, not too little. We both ordered the Maine lobster roll as I had been wanting one the whole trip and never got one. I had high hopes for this. The lobster was very evident with big chunks(sadly, not always the case), and it was mixed with mayo, celery and onion. This lobster«salad» comes cold on a toasted bun — and here’s the bummer part — it’s not on the traditional toasted roll one normally expects with a lobster roll. It looked more like a toasted hot dog bun. Ahhhhhh!!! Why?!! That being said, it still had good flavor. However, I think I’d go with fish tacos next time. Bun aside, I’d still recommend the place, and we will go back. Saw on menu they own Roostica, the woodfired pizza place we ate at the night before(also reviewed). I think the overall quality and atmosphere is consistent and definitely worth it.

This place was busy but had more of a local feel, which was really nice. They have only one pool table but the ambiance around the table is great. We told the hostess we were over there, and even on an extremely busy night she came over to get us when our table was ready. The downside is parking can be a bit of a pain even though it’s off the normal strip, but that’s true everywhere in Key West.

My husband and I had dinner here on a Wednesday evening, around 7:30pm. Service: we had Asia as our waitress. She was busy but very friendly. Environment: casual, open-air restaurant. Sea-themed decorations that worked with the location and type of restaurant. There was another dining room separated by what looked like a pretty large bar. Food: overall, pretty great. We ordered: –Hogfish Tacos: delicious! Two tacos with a good portion of hogfish on a flour tortilla with rice and beans and tortilla chips. You have a choice of grilled or fried fish — I chose grilled so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the typical breading. I wanted to really taste the fish and I’m glad I did. The fish was flaky and mild, cooked very well. The toppings were great, the slaw was not over-powered by mayonnaise. — Grilled Hogfish and Blackened Scallops: also delicious. The dish come with one filet of fish and 3 good sized scallops. The blackened seasoning had good flavor. Overall, food and service were great! I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Hogfish Bar & Grill is a little off the beaten path in Key West. This casual restaurant is located off of a marina a few minutes from the airport so you’ll need a car(or taxi) to get here. The atmosphere is very casual and laidback. I knew as soon as I sat down that I was going to order the hogfish sandwich. My husband decided on the cobb salad with blackened mahi and a bowl of the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was very tasty and contained large portions of lobster, but it was served lukewarm so we had to send it back to the kitchen to get reheated. The cobb salad with blackened mahi was great, no complaints. I loved my hogfish sandwich and thought it was some of the most tender white fish that I have ever had, but I was disappointed that the sandwich was served with a tomato slice that was not fully ripe and shredded iceberg lettuce. Not a deal breaker. I just pushed the lettuce and tomato to the side and was still able to enjoy my sandwich and fries. Would definitely return for the hogfish. It did not disappoint!

My partner and I went to Hogfish Bar & Grill because it is supposedly a local favorite on Stock Island. Overall, I thought that the hogfish was very nice and the vibe was very good at this restaurant. Since this restaurant is not located in Key West, while we were eating there, we saw a lot of people taking taxis here from Key West. Since it’s one of the best places to get hogfish, I can understand that. You can either sit inside or outside. We generally prefer the outside just because it’s nice to be on the water. However, there’s plenty of indoor seating and bar seating. We ordered wontons, which were actually pretty good. I really didn’t expect an Asian fusion option on this menu, but it’s what we would recommend more than anything — there’s a huge portion of good-quality tuna. I got the hogfish sandwich just to try out their specialty, and I would say it’s very carb-heavy. The fish itself is very delicate, as evidenced by the fact that it spoils pretty easily and can’t be transported much. I thought that there was too much bread and empty calories covering the«star.» When I got rid of the bread, the hogfish was very good. So I guess I would recommend a blackened filet over the sandwich. Overall, the vibe at Hogfish Bar & Grill was very laid-back in the hogfish was delicious. It’s worth a visit, even if you have to take a taxi out of Key West.

Landed here thanks to Unilocal. What a find. We decided we would go for just couple of starters and avoid the Mains since the main in the US are massive and we always struggle to finish it. My husband and I both ordered the creamy lobster bisque which was great. I personally am not a fan of creamy soup so I did not enjoy it much but my hubby loved it since he is a creamy soup fan. After filling my stomach with the creamy soup, we ordered killer tuna nachos, seafood ceviche and buffalo shrimp. All of them were just divine. The food was just so good that I wanted a hammock to sleep and then wake up again to eat something else. The service was obviously great else I would not be rating this place 5. If you get a chance to go here, do not miss it. It is a small detour to get here from the overseas highway but totally worth it.

We had thanksgiving dinner here. I had the hogfish taco and my boyfriend had the thanksgiving special. 20 bucks Thanksgiving meal that comes with sausage stuffing, mash potato, sweet potato, ham, turkey, green beans, cranberry sauce and pumpkin soup. A big plate of goodness. Hogfish taco come with 3 colors beans and rice. Is one of the best beans and rice I had. Fish taco is fresh. Staff is so friendly and offer us a piece of key lime pie to go.

This place is mostly locals tucked back behind a bunch a trailer parks on a random corner of stock Island near Key West. It sits on the marina surrounded by boats. The food is excellent, atmosphere is better. There’s a bar that’s always full of locals no matter what time of the day you come in and one pool table that’s usually in use also. There’s a jukebox with good music and apparently you can’t control it with your cell phone app but I haven’t tried that. The roast Cuban pork is excellent and enough for two people easily. The tuna appetizer is excellent. The gumbo is great with the rich and thick flavor. They have fresh fish caught locally every day. The peel and eat shrimp are great fat and juicy. The steak and shrimp was particularly excellent. And we tried the lobster roll which was great and came with French fries or you could substitute something a little healthier.

Fantastic, out of the way tiki-style hang out with laid back island vibe far from the tourist traps down town. This Stock Island institution deserves its praise. Unpretentious and unrefined,(you actually have to drive through the middle of a trailer home park to get there) with excellent sandwiches and especially the fried hogfish sandwich – the house specialty. Service was great. The crab cakes were unfortunately and predictably boring, but I warned my friend who ordered them to stick with what these guys do best. He never listens. Crab cakes were deep fried and mostly breading. Lacking flavor. Too bad for him. As Ron Burgundy says, «When in Rome… yes?»

This is one of those local gems that I try never to miss when I’m traveling. The atmosphere is very Keysie; very laid back and friendly. We got to hang out with Chiwi, a friendly dog with hogfish-ish teeth owned by a local artist regular. The Hog Fish Tacos were excellent — blackened. Adding Cholula Hot Sauce to the sour cream kicked it up a few notches. My wife had Fried Hogfish Sandwich which was good but the breading had no seasoning. Hogfish is a good eating, flaky white fish but it isn’t a snapper or sea bass. On tap favorites were Fat Tire, Funky Buddha Floridian Hefeweizen(a German wheat ale), Yeungling, Bud Light, PBR, and Guinness. There is a Happy Hour from 4 – 6 pm on beer and a special Happy Hour menu but you WILL have to ask for it. We were there from 4 – 5 pm and we didn’t get any discount on drinks. Our server was very pleasant as was the rest of the staff. And Chiwi. All in all Hog Fish Grill is a must stop when you go down to Key West. Just don’t believe what they say about it being located in «downtown Stock Island» unless you want to trick the wives into thinking they could do some shopping here. …

Came here mid day for some cocktails. This place is tucked back, but seems to be a popular spot. Was happy to see on Unilocal that this place averages 4 stars. Ok. So we were greeted right away which is always a plus for me. Means they actually care about their customers. We were seated right away and our waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly. Drinks, appetizers, and our food came out fast. We have never had hog fish before and it was really good!!! Hot, and flavorful. Wow. Very good. So, not a whole lot to say. I can see why this place gets good reviews. Fast, and good food. Can’t go wrong coming here

This is the kind of place in my opinion Unilocal exists to boost. This is the kind of place that everybody should know about but probably wouldn’t know of without the kind of exposure Unilocal can help it get which is so richly deserves. This is the kind of place that you won’t see because it’s not at a major intersection but rather the complete opposite. This is the kind of place that is the quintessential definition of the term«hidden gem». You or anybody you know won’t come across this place unless you are told about it or if you bothered to use Unilocal. It is geographically challenged in a sense that it is for lack of a better term«out of the way» but by no means not worth the trip… in fact it’s the complete opposite. This is the kind of place you hope to find when you visit a city that you’re not familiar with and the reason is because this is the kind of place you want to find and want to know about… The ambiance = I felt like I was on vacation the moment I saw the Hogfish. The Hogfish is a lure, a siren to a wary long driven, long flying traveler that wants to truly feel they are on vacation and worry free. You get the island feel right away in the open area hut type of structure with fans spinning above your head to help keep you cool while outside in this humid city. The drink = my friend and I both ordered the mojito and it was made well and was very refreshing. The sugar was just right and the mint tasted fresh. The food = The menu is a nice mix of available items. One of my friends doesn’t enjoy fish but there were some good choice alternatives. She went with pulled pork taco plate which included tortilla chips and rice and beans. My wife and other friend both went with the hogfish tacos plate which also included the chips and rice with beans. I ended up ordering a Reuben sandwich but instead of corned beef it was replaced with grouper fish, a «grouper Reuben». The grouper Reuben came with a side of fries which looked rather light on the fries but it didn’t matter. I couldn’t finish the fries anyway. The sandwich was amazing because the group was amazing and had a very generous portion of fish. This was the best fish sandwich I’ve had to date mostly because it’s not a common thing I get to order. The fish was not heavily battered but had an absolutely fresh fish taste. It was mouth watering and delicious. I got to try the Hogfish tacos as well. Again, a very generous portion of fish and again not heavily battered or greasy. This was a very good fish taco. The fish portion sizes here are not skimpy. This place is not a French restaurant and the portions are huge. Everybody was full at our table including myself. Overall the Hogfish is an all around amazing experience with good friendly service, great food and wonderful drinks. The restaurant itself helps the fact that it really gives you the feeling of being in a place of fun and relaxation. Yes this place is at the end of a dead end road through a residential area but it is 100% worth the find. Find this place and do not be disappointed. Find the hidden gem.

Super Laden direkt an der Anlegestation. Keine Tourifalle sondern viele einheimische.

Immer wieder gern
