I really love my salad. The waitress was very friendly. My husband steak wasnt the way he wanted and he sent it back but it still wasn’t the way he wanted. But manager took something off the bill which was great.

We have gone here in the past for brunch and it was fantastic. However, this last time we went was less than desirable. The times on Unilocal say that there is continuous service all day, so my husband and I went a little before 4pm. Once we arrived, they said there was no patio seating, and we had to wait until 4pm to be seated in the section above the patio and could order only off the happy hour menu, and that if we wanted to sit on the patio, we would have to wait until 5pm. Hopefully someone changes that in the Unilocal business profile so other people don’t make that mistake. We were greeted a little after 4, and served promptly with three appetizers and two drinks we had ordered, probably within 15 minutes or so. However, for whatever reason, we waited another 45 minutes for the Chile shrimp, were told time and time again that it was almost coming out, that the waitress would go check on it, that she didn’t know why it was taking so long. We finally told them after 45 minutes of waiting on one appetizer that we were ready to leave, and the waitress asks if we wanted the Chile shrimp removed from our tab. Since we had never received it, had no indication when we would receive it, we would have expected the they would take it off automatically. Then the waitress comes back and shows us that she took it off for us, like she was doing us a favor. I’m not exactly sure what was going on in the kitchen that day, but it made us not want to come back for dinner, which we would have that night. We will think twice before coming back, and we usually come a couple times a trip and tell others about it. We will have to tell our family who go there too to stay away as well with the service we received.

Had one night in Maui and was really looking forward to a fun sunset beach dinner but instead, were treated with less than subpar service. It took them almost 10 minutes to even approach our table after we had been seated. It then took them 30 minutes to bring our first round of drinks saying that the bartender was really backed up but most of the restaurant was empty. Then, we found a piece of hair on the plate and the wine glasses were water stained so just felt unclean. I think the fact that most of the tables were empty on a summer weekend night in peak tourist season says a lot. We left after appetizers. I would recommend a different restaurant if you are looking forward to a fun evening in Maui!

I’m picky about my drinks. I went to 5 Palms as a guest, and when I walked in I thought,“What’s this place doing in Tucson?” It reminded me of a place in Chicago I like, but it didn’t feel like Tucson. I checked out the top shelf and liked what I saw, but ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc to get started. It was a far better wine than is usually poured by the glass; and more importantly, it was perfectly chilled — not cold. My friend and I began a conversation about serving wine, beer, and spirits properly and Joe the bartender weighed in. He knows his stuff. I’ve been back several times now. It’s my favorite bar to pony up to and I learn something from Joe each visit. It still feels more like Chicago than Tucson — but it is nice to ‘get away.’

Great locstion, great happy hour except I ordered fries, I frequent this place do I know they serve steak fries. I get skinny fries, I ask… given a lame response that steak fries served during day. Excuse me it is 3 o’clock. asked if I could ask someone else, told no.

The service here is below sub-par. I am all for a good time and people having a good time while they work however it was to the point where there seemed to be a lack of leadership. First we went in unsure if we wanted the dinner or happy hour menu. Once we decided on the happy hour we stood awkwardly as apparently we were being shown where to sit. Once sat we were sitting at a table that even the shortest of people couldn’t even sit properly at the table because of how the table was built. We tried to look around to see if we could be moved but after a while we just got up and grabbed a different table. In doing so we caught the attention of the girl who sat us and she proceeded to deliver a filthy glare. My fiancé was so uncomfortable with it that she felt the need to rationalize our move to her but making a comment on how tall we were. The food was average and still not a great value at happy hour prices. Our server was nice but not extremely attentive. Took her a while to pick up my cue of staring at her that we needed her back to our table as she had forgot some stuff. The venue has an excellent view and I can imagine it’s spectacular at sunset. It’s a shame that the staff had the vibe as if they could just show up and it be a good place.

Typlically we try and use the Unilocal reviews to find a nice place to eat around maui but I did not listen to the reviews when they mentioned bad service at this place. I kind of gave them a little latitude and thought the past might have just be a bad waiter /waitress and we rolled the dice because the menu looked interesting. The outside seating and ocean views were great. Could ilnot really ask for more than that. If you want to pay high prices just for that then this is your place cause you will get a great view of the ocean. The only distraction was that it is a gathering place for people staying at the hotel and they generate a lot of foot traffic thru the place just to try and get to the sunsets. On to the service. My wife asked politely if the Huli Huli chicken was a chicken breast and the waitress said«maybe — I think, it has a bone in it». We thought she would have asked the kitchen and get back to us but when she returned we asked if she checked and she kind of rolled her eyes and said let me check. She Took a looong time to get back to us and finally said it was a chicken breast(it was). I ordered the Ribeye and it was prepared very well. I ordered it medium and it was thru and thru very pink, nice job. Meat was not as tender as I would have expected from a 40 dollar steak though. My wife ordered the Huli Huli chicken and was very satisfied with the chicken breast and flavor was very tasty. Nice job on this plate as well but over 30 dollars for a chicken breast really puts a premium on the ocean views. On to dessert. We saw the chocolate lava cake on the dessert menu and when she finally cleared our table and asked about dessert we asked for the lava cake, she said it takes about 25 minutes and asked if we wanted to wait. That was nice to ask but maybe something to mention during the meal or at the beginning when we sat down. So that said, we asked about the cheesecake and how long it would take. She said it was faster. So we ordered the cheesecake and the cruel irony was that it took about 15 minutes to get that. In summary: the views are top notch. We visited June 10th and given the 6:15 reservation gave us a great sunset. The food prepared well was a bit expensive. I think you already have an idea as to what I think if the service. See the photos for presentations.

Been here for Happy Hour multiple times. The pupus are half price, which makes them the price of a normal appetizer at another restaurant, but you’re paying for the beautiful view. Sometimes the wait for Happy Hour seating can get 4 – 5 parties deep. The drinks are weak so order a double. The BBQ ribs are awesome, and the staff is attentive and friendly.

Stay away! The restaurant has incredible views but bad food and even worse attitude. I had a gift certificate for Mothers day which I put on hold with a ring side table the next Sunday for the famous Prime Rib dinner. I was guaranteed the Prime rib would be available when I reserved a week earlier. We arrived at 6PM and was informed NO prime rib. I wanted to leave but decided to stay and try the lobster special. It was dry, tuff and such a small portion is was sad… We both left hungry. My husband’s onion soup was worse than canned soup. When we told the waitress, her response was I’ll tell the chef! ??? When the bill arrive I asked her to take it off.. which she did without an «I’m sorry» etc We had money left on my gift certificate and I asked to use the remaining for a tip. She said NO that was not possible. As we approved our car she came running after us to tell us we could indeed use the remaining money for a tip(a little late) The whole night such a disappointment — I will never return. I am an owner in Kihei and will NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. Just to follow up — The following weekend we had our«prime rib» at Dunes restaurant. The waiter and chef were incredible! The waiter came back after serving our prime rib and asked if it was done perfectly… He offered to give a new dinner because he thought it looked a little over cooked. This was something he did totally on his own. He had the chef come out to our table and they brought some desserts for no charge. This is what a restaurant should be — reputation. Five Palms has many tourists and know they won’t be back… There are many wonderful restaurants in Maui but sadly this is NOT one of them.

We loved 5 palms so much this is our 3rd time here. We celebrated our last«dinner» in Maui by having Happy Hour at 5 palms. Happy hour is the best here. Have a drink and dishes are half price. Amazing food, view and drinks! There were no non-alcoholic drinks but i requested a pineapple milkshake. Very delicious. My husband and MIL both say 5 palms is so much better than Mama’s, we are just sayin. We also had dinner here 2 days ago will show the pics in another review. Service is amazing and view over looks the water. Get here early and ask for the view by the railing to view the ocean.

Breakfast at 5palms was a bit of a splurge for us, prices are on the higher side for sure, but our mimosas were only $ 5 and they were heavy on the bubbly. The Keiki(kids) pancakes were generous portion and my 11 year old son wasn’t left hungry. My moms eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly, and the hollandaise was real, not that powdered garbage you get most places. My crab and avocado omelette was amazing, at first I thought they had forgotten the crab, but wham– there it was in the eggs and it was a HUGE portion. They didn’t scrimp at all. The potatoes on the side are so so, but I was so full after my omelette that it didn’t even matter. We loved the view, the service was great, and we would definitely come back for breakfast. (I did peek at the dinner menu and I was thinking it seemed a tad overpriced, but, this is Maui. everything skews a little high.)

This was the first place we visited upon our entry night on the island. It was a family reunion of sorts and we were celebrating my sisters birthday. We came for happy hour and drinks. When we told the server it was her birthday… She said NOTHING. Most people say«Happy Birthday»… Some of our family is foreign and we need to translate to them. They like to drink juice. I know it’s not a marked up cocktail but when we asked if they had juice she rolled her eyes. I’m writing this review months after the scenario and it’s still painful. This place had the worst margarita I’ve ever had and the happy hour wasn’t so happy. This place is a skip. The best thing you can do is park around here and watch the people playing with fire if they are there. CAFE O’Lei is a much better spot we went to twice and had a much better time. Do me and yourself a favor and skip this place.

I had their Eggs Benedict. The presentation was sloppy. My English muffins were soggy & one egg was not cooked properly, very runny. My husband had the French Toast, that was good. The only thing that was delicious was the mimosa. Can’t really mess that one up. The atmosphere was wonderful. Being outside with spectacular views of the ocean. The attentiveness of the staff was not very attentive. I won’t come back for breakfast.

I dined here on our last trip to Maui, and had a phenomenal experience. sadly, my trip last night to 5 Palms didn’t come close to what I experienced then. I am allergic to lactose and gluten. Normally, when I inquire on gluten free soy sauce, servers ask if I have an allergy. This time when I asked, the server not only forgot, but walked quickly past me as I said I had food allergies. I ordered one of the only dedicated GF items on the menu-the sashimi grade ahi– after asking if the Ono was GF. The server never bothered to write the orders from our table. He returned with our items and had brought me fish, I suspected the ahi was overcooked, but quickly realized it was the wrong dish. I had shared a couple bites with my spouse and had a bit myself and my gut told me it wasn’t right so I sat and waited for our server to return. He finally returned as everyone else was over halfway down with their dishes and I told him he had given me the wrong order. He said«no I didn’t-you asked me about the Ono» and I let him know(as did others at my table) that I had specifically asked for the Ahi as it was GF. He brought back a woman and they both insisted that the dish is made with Tamari, but never did confirm the dish was GF(the menu says it is not). I get it, Tamari is generally Gf(not always), but j spent the entire night sick in my hotel. I am reluctant to ever dine at 5 Palms again-worst service I have experienced in years. Food allergies are not something to play with! It was not busy(we got a late, post-dinner Rush reservation at 7:15 and didn’t get our entrees until 8:15 or so), how hard could it have been to honor my request? Thanks, but no thanks.

Nov 18/15, we usually prefer to visit the lounge. We have previously dined in the restaurant for the sunset, and it IS spectacular sunset view, but you can see from the beach without having to dine in too. I decided to try the Malbec house wine — it goes well w/sushi, but a tad bitter otherwise. If you are hoping for a drinking beverage, have a Mai Tai. During happy hour, you don’t want to over-order, because the ice chips will melt on you before you finish it. Starting Nov 22nd the happy hours will change for the holiday season. Happy to report they are still serving real crab meat in the California rolls. Sashimi is being sliced a little thinner than previous years — take one usual slice from home, and slice in three, however, it was well sliced with some skill, which I can’t say of everywhere serving sushi. Bonus — they carry gluten free soy sauce! I’m selective what I order from the menu, being celiac does limit my options, but my oh my, the RIBS! I think we ordered them THREE times after discovering they were gluten free. Fall off the bone for the most part. The Mai Tais are still tied for my favourite on the island. Quality of ingredients here is *very* nice. And service too. The hostess didn’t have to seat the two of us at a 4-top table, she could have snuggled us at the bar, but we appreciated that little extra bit of service. Being 5 feet tall, it’s not as comfortable sitting at the bar. After 8pm, we noticed that lounge cleared out, but it is shoulder season, and we visit specifically for that reason. Seems everywhere on the island is a little quieter this year. We visited um, almost daily our first week on the island. =) Craving Mai Tai and sushi didn’t help matters. I recommend visiting the beach for a lovely walk afterwards. It’s a long beach, and the residents and resorts try to respect the dark coast initiative to preserve the nesting for turtles and other marine life.

5+ stars for location & views, 3 for food &3 for the service we had on the 2014 trip(most of our visits were in the 4 star range for service). I would highly recommend breakfast or happy hour here, when any food will be affordable or even discounted(happy hour has half price appetizers & a few sushi dishes, and most of the hotels in the area will give you a coupon good for 20% off breakfast) Unfortunately, the food quality has drifted down over the years so even with the view and the 10% Unilocal check in discount, I can’t imagine paying for dinner here. Especially since the vegetarian options are limited. The views of Keawakapu Beach are spectacular. The front of the main dining room is really quite close to the ocean, but even the back of the bar is fairly close to the water. If you enjoy an alcoholic beverage now and again, then make the time to do happy hour here — beer is cheap(16 oz draft for $ 4) and there are a few cocktail specials. Bar service is generally speedy, and they don’t get too touchy if you don’t order much food. Sunset is lovely most nights, although it will be somewhat north of the restaurant during the summer months, and therefore not as fully visible from the bar area. Happy hour can have a line up, especially after 4 pm, so plan ahead. Breakfast in November 2015 was only so-so. The potatoes were overcooked(really, really hard) and the quarter pineapple we ordered to share was not fully ripe, which resulted in a lot of uneaten parts. I will say that the fruit I’ve eaten there in the past was always decent, so this was an exception. Caffeine is extra and expensive, in my opinion, so fill up in your room beforehand. Did I mention the view? Really, you need to check out the view. This works out to 3 ½ stars, which I am rounding down because of the drop in food quality & service that we have seen over the years. I’m still going back(probably more than once) next time I am on Maui, though.

Okay so in Maui with my Mom and partner. Came to 5 Palms for the wonderful half price appetizers. I decided to look at the dinner menu. I just got the best surprise. Seared Sashimi Grade Ahi. Porcini encrusted. On a bed of lobster mashed potatoes. Garlic greens. Shiitake bacon. With Cabernet Cherry Syrup with bits of cherry. Garnished with parsley and dill. Hands down one of the best Ahi dishes I have had to date. I almost licked the plate. The lettuce wraps, coconut encrusted shrimp. Spider roll. All very good. This place is under rated. What a fabulous affordabe gem in Kihei. Food. Overall 4 Entrée 5. Appetizers 4. Dessert and Coffee 5 Place. 5. On the water and you can hear the waves. Unassuming. Service 4. She was efficient and quick. Overall. 4. Thanks Maui.

Gutes Restaurant, nettes Personal, lecker Essen.
