A nice non touristy place to eat for a quick lunch. Don’t expect anything earth shattering but it is good food.

The place was great! Everything was absolutely wonderful! My sister who is a VERY picky eater, actually loved the loaded potato soup and the BLT sandwich which came on pretzel bread. The service was also excellent. The food was brought out very quickly to us and the staff was extremely friendly! Lastly, it was also super cheap! Sandwich combos(includes full sandwich, 8 oz soup or chips) range from $ 4.95−6.95. We will definitely return in the future!

Great variety of soups and sandwiches. Daily specials too. Small, made to order type restaurant. Call ahead and use the pick up window! The staff is friendly and seem happy to be able to serve you. There is an all-you-can-eat option or meals as small as a half sandwich. Kids menu too.

Great local place! I recommend going during happy hour, the raw bar is half off. We had steamed oysters, streamer shrimp and Cole slaw. I don’t recommend the slaw, but the rest of the food was great. The service is slow, but just enjoy a drink and take it easy. Nice nice people!

Dude this place is packed. The parking lot is a lot bigger than the inside of this place … which means that it may look like it is not busy, but then you can’t get in the door … which was bad because it was like raining today. I had a turkey chili and a turkey Reuben sandwich. While I have had turkey chili before, I have never had a turkey reuben. I liked the sandwich quite well — it was a great idea, and I think I will try it back home. The turkey chili here was only so so. They make like it is a local place, but dude, it is part of a NC /SC chain — it may be locally owned, but it is not what I would call a local restaurant. I mean, many McDonalds are locally owned and operated, but that doesn’t make them local either. My partners sandwich — basically a BLT was only ok … nothing special. So, the lunch wasn’t bad, it was just a bit disappointing after all the awesome Unilocal reviews.

The place has a great concept… really good grilled cheese, tomato and red onion sandwich but. we had the she crab soup with the combo. not sure if they added way too much lemon juice or the crab meat was from a can or soured but it wasn’t good at all… I’d check them out again but wouldn’t ever ask for the she crab again. Yuck… the competition for she crab soup is high in the OBX… was totally not impressed.

Great deal! It was nice to find a quality non-fried or BBQ restaurant in the sea of tourist attractions. The venue was small, it’s a renovated fast food joint. Salads are green, no iceberg! And fresh! A local, better, panera.

My mom told me about this place(we’re locals) and we had to try it, especially because I tend to have sensitive stomach and can’t eat really heavy foods usually. I love that they let you sample the different flavors of soup, since I’m often hesitant at new restaurants that are all guess-work. The greek lemon chicken soup is delicious, as is the broccoli cheddar. We didn’t have any sandwiches, but they sure looked good. We definitely intend to go back more frequently, especially through the winter!

We were looking for something fast and easy on our first night in the OBX, because neither of us was feeling very well. Ladles was nearby and who doesn’t love soup? The restaurant is very small but has a homey welcoming feel to it inside. I got the potato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Both were delicious. They have many things to choose from and offer you samples of their soups if you are undecided. All we have at home is Panera’s, which I’m not a huge fan of, so Ladles was a pleasant surprise. If I ever come back to the OBX, I’ll definitely eat here again. The staff were very friendly as well. Great overall experience.

I didn’t know what to expect. But what I got was clearly an eclectic Restauranteur who is trying to make a go of just soup. Sadly, I don’t think they’ll last very long. They were very friendly at the front counter and offered tastes of everything. Everything seemed to smack of being too high sodium. For the record, I add salt to everything. So that’s saying something when I point out things taste too salty. I think they’re focused too much on using salt to punch up the flavors, rather than real herbs and seasonings. But I’m not a professional chef or even a good cook. I just love to eat.(I have to wonder if some of the soups are really homemade or come from the back of a food truck.) It’s set up as a fast-food restaurant, but it was really awkward when the cashier refused to hand my carry out order across the counter, but instead walked out into the lobby and handed my bag to me personally. I get the impression they are trying to make. But it was just too quirky and intrusive for me. Kind of like the guy who just sold you a suit and wants to walk around the register to hand it to you and shake your hand. Overall, I think they’re trying hard. But I think they have a concept that cannot survive. I am certainly rooting for them, though. I live to see local businesses thrive. For now, I rate them as average soup without enough other menu choices for me to even be able to bring the whole family or come back again. I tried it for the novelty. But I can’t figure out a reason to go back.

We won a gift card to Ladles OBX from a Daredevils baseball game recently. We decided to give it a try and I am so glad we did. Food: Yum. They had a lot of selections. I had their fruit salad with green apples, cranberries, feta, cucumbers on a bed of salad greed. The salad was huge, came with a small bowl of soup, and a roll. I chose the broccoli cheddar and it was divine. My husband got the all you can eat soup and salad. The garden salad was crisp and the homemade vinaigrette was a hit. He tried the Buffalo Chicken, Greek Lemon Chicken, She Crab, and the special of the day which was an Asian noodle. He walked out very full! Two of my girls had the grilled cheese with chicken noodle soup and enjoyed it thoroughly, and my other daughter had a bowl of the she crab soup with crackers. The food was very good, filling, and we had left overs. Staff: Superb. We were greeted immediately, with big welcoming smiles, and offered to sample any soups. This hospitality continued throughout our meal. The staff ensured we had everything we needed. When we left we were thanked and told to call in a takeout order and drive up to their to go window for pick up. Décor: Clean and tasteful. Prices: Reasonable. Our meals with 5 drinks came out to a total of $ 45. We arrive during their«happy» hour between 4 – 6 and got additional off and our gift card knocked off even more. Bottom line: We will be back. Good healthy, comfort food. Excellent service. Kind, hardworking staff, and fair prices. Can’t beat that combination! It was a very positive experience! We all give it a HUGE thumbs up… one star for each family member equals a five star experience.

Couldn’t have asked for a nicer first meal in OBX, HUGE portions for your money, super fresh salad ingredients and awesome soup, all for a really reasonable price($ 18 for three grown-ups and a toddler). The strawberry mozzarella salad with raspberry vinaigrette was awesome and my husband loved his buffalo chicken soup. We’ll be back!

Ok for lunch, French Onion soup was lacking flavor, and was possibly frozen. She Crab and loaded potato was better. Sandwichs were mediocre, nothing special. Staff was attentive.

Very colorful red store front caught my eye as something new on the main Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills road. I asked one employee how long they had been open, and it’s been since Dec ’14. This restaurant is similar to Panera, with a more up-beat, fast food like atmosphere. Employees were friendly, helpful, and were quick to offer small samples of any of their 10 – 15 different soups. It took about 10 minutes before the food came to the table. We had a party of 5, and the order arrived perfectly accurate. The sandwich menu was a little short, so I had the She-Crab Soup. The soup was delicious, though a little bit on the salty side. Don’t misunderstand; the soup still gets a 9 out of 10 rating. Trying to be cheap, we didn’t order drinks and regretted that decision, as that would have reconciled the salt. One of my kids had the cheddar/broccoli soup, and it was outstanding. The quality of the sandwiches was terrific. I helped myself to what my 3 kids didn’t eat on their plates(a process I call vulturing) and all of their sandwiches were terrific. Soft but firm bread with fresh ingredients that were noticeably better than the big chain restaurants. My family of 5, without drinks, spent about $ 25 or $ 30. I would recommend this restaurant. It was closer to a 4.5 out of 5 stars, but I rounded up.
