Hotdogs remind me of Summer time and childhood. Pool parties, outdoor bbq’s, baseball games and summer camp. I guess that’s why I got a strong hankering for one when the temps, thanks to our lovely humidity, peek their heads above that 100 degree mark. Just beyond the line of trees on Northpark as you head towards the freeway you will notice something very strange popping up along your path. Food stands! This is because that treeline is the dividing mark between North Harris and Montgomery County. M County welcomes our food stand brotherin with open arms and so that’s why are little section of the burbs has had the opportunity to get a taste of Houston life –or that H life as the kids say these days. I checked out Paul Miguel’s Facebook page before leaving my office to see if their were any deals and all I found was a generic flyer that said«bacon wrapped hot dog». Excuse me? Pig wrapped in pig and fried? Oh and I can get chili cheese fries with that? The fat man inside me danced for joy while my arteries shuddered in fear. To make it a long story short there was a young lady at the window who had no idea what was going on and every time I asked for something that was clearly featured on their FB page she kinda uhmmed and ahhheed at me until I gave her the«do you even work here?» look. Finally she said she GUESSED she could give me what I asked for. The hot dog was over cooked on the inside and undercooked on the bacon outside. The whole thing wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the appetizing image that I had in my mind. The chili cheese fries were interesting. The fries were thin cut with a layer of nacho cheese, a layer of cold ground beef and a layer of shredded cheddar-not melted, just kinda chillen there. I paid around 8 dollars for this so you imagine my dismay when I ate what I could of my meal. Paul Miguel’s does have the market cornered on the snow cone front so maybe they should focus their time and energy on that. Hiring someone with an iota of an idea of what was going on would probably serve them well too.
