I’m wondering if the 5 star ratings were written by staff. This was a huge disappointment as my wife and I loved the ORIGINAL restaurant that was in this location. We went there for a lunch and we both had ham & cheese sandwiches, which were average, at best. Actually, my wife ordered a grilled cheese, but server brought her the ham & cheese. I ordered side of potato salad; server brought fries instead. Go figure! View of the river is spectacular, but flies buzzing about were very annoying. We understand the restaurant is soon to be remodeled. When this is complete, we may try dinner & update Unilocal.

This is the River’s Edge and if you wear a cowboy hat you can be their leader!
Live tunes, strong drinks, a nice view and the opportunity to get wasted and try to become a famous river explorer! Do it! Do it now!

Mother’s Day brunch:
the food was mediocre. flies kept buzzing around the restaurant as everyone seemed to leave the door open to the patio. Very disappointing. Maybe they’d be better if not a brunch only menu. I sure hope so.

Called on Friday before Memorial Day weekend to check to see if they were open on Sunday. Was told yes, open at 9 AM. Arrived on Sunday and place was dark but the door was unlocked. Went back to car for my special date. When we got back to the door it was locked. What a bunch of jerks. Old guy shuffling around inside did not even have the courtesy to say a word. Don’t bother with this place ever again! Bill W

Awesome Surf & Turf Baked Potatoe with Bacon and all the fixens great Blue Cheese Salad! Steak was greater than steakhouse quality! Highly recommend

My friend and I can never decide so we both order something different and split. Today was a blue cheese burger and the patty melt. Blue burger won hands down although the melt was very good. The waitress was excellent. Great place… great food!

The service was atrocious. It wasn’t very busy however still took at least 15 minutes just to get a menu. The view out back was nice. When we finally received the food it was cold. Took the server at least 4 trips just to get our basics (dressing that comes with a salad). Unfortunately the location I normally go to was closed. Real funny; the specialty bun on a burger-​what a joke. We asked for sourdough bread on the burger which they said they had then brought the burger out on their «specialty» bun. Nope-​Never going back here again. Two tables by us had similar service challenges. Tough to get a beverage and service here!

Great for weddings, banquet reception. Great Sunday Brunch! Love love, love this place and can’t get enough of this little town! From the ice creamery to the little town store, overnight camping next door with night time bonfire’s!
This place is definitely a spot you want to visit!

Great place. We stopped on our hot rod run for some food and a drink. Great service. Great people and awesome bloody Mary’s.
Stop in and you will be as happy as we were. There were about 60 of us and we all loved it.

I Love the place, and I have flown into oakdale just to eat here, I am from Malibu, and am a foodie,
The owner is a must meet when you go there, his name is benny, there are photos all over the walls from all the movies shot around there, and benny has been in many of them, from High Noon, to john wayne movies… WOW
The food is GREAT!!!
I often get the prime rib, or the smoked trutip, Thep have a real wood smoker there, and the meat. is to die for.
I LOVE THE PLACE, I can not see how the whole staff could become any better, they are all sweet, with wonderful stories.
What more can you ask for Good food, wonderful people, a beatutiful river, and a very very quaint town…
As I said, I live in Malibu, and fly there just for this place. WHAT A FIND!

Want to dine in a beautiful serene setting with the river flowing nearby? Then you will enjoy this awesome little restaurant greatly. Its one of Knights Ferry’s historic hidden treasures. In the 1800, s the building was a livery stable, then in 1930 or so it became a restaurant. The friendly sweet owner Ben happily shares his knowledge of his establishments history. This little bar and restaurant is not only a real treat to enjoy the freshly prepared food but you can also have your most important event here-​your wedding. Right down by the river-​it doesn’t get much better than that!
I thoroughly enjoyed my delicious freshly prepared eggplant parmesan, served by the friendly attentive waitress– it was excellent. I am hoping to return soon to try the freshly prepared salmon salad the creative chef has added to the menu. Bön Appétit

We live in Modesto, drove to Knights Ferry tonight due to the beautiful scenery we’ve heard. Leave it at that «beautiful scenery».
This place looks like a scene from the Andy Griffith Show. We’re black and I don’t feel like we felt very welcomed or maybe too welcomed. Older white guys were staring, my 10 year old asks «mom, why are they looking at us so». It was a very different experience.
I got the prime rib sandwich — it was fatty. Salad and clam chowder tasted Perko Café-​ish.
My fiancé got the steak dinner… he didn’t care for it. Said he could get better at Dennys.
My daughter says the Grilled Cheese is yummy — probably the best item on the menu.
Unilocal says this place is kid friendly. But its a bar… lots of crazies. So if you have kids beware.
Go see the river, run down the hill. But don’t eat here.

The River’s Edge offers you a good view of the river. From there, it goes down hill quickly. This place proves my father’s theory: you can’t get a good view and a good meal at the same place.
The food isn’t good. The service isn’t much better. And for what you pay, there are better diners in Oakdale (not many, but they’re there).
Enjoy your visit to Knights Ferry. Don’t stop at The River’s Edge.

My wife and I ate Dinner here before we were engaged over 10 years ago. We decided to go back tonight, just before our 10th anniversary. We really enjoyed everything. If you go make sure to sit outside, the deck is large and covered and you get a great view of the river. If the river is up (like it was for us tonight) the sound is awesome.
The food was also very good. They served their steaks with a marvelous mushroom gravy on the side plus salad, bread, soup, a nice side of carrots and a baked potato. A lot of food and not only was the price was very reasonable they even included the tax in the price. Two steak dinners plus drinks for under fifty bucks, awesome!
We are definitely going back, maybe monthly; it was a great experience.
