Was in town for a workshop and got to watch the US Men’s National Team defeat Ecuador with other American Outlaws members. I had the fish and chips and thought they were good. I washed it down with a Guinness and a Dave’s Pale Ale. Would definitely eat here again.

I love this place. It has an excellent atmosphere. Good English pub food, but the fish and chips are mediocre. They have live music and a funky bar next door, The Underground.

Lunch May 26. Should have known something was up when I got there at 12:20 and there were 4 guys eating at a single table and no one else there for lunch except employees. Found out that this place had been bought by the Aubrey Restaurant folks about 5 months ago and they made changes. The menu has been pared down, but they kept the more common, better known items. Unfortunately, they also changed up the recipes and products used in the dishes. For example, they used to make their own English Sausage in house and it was incredible(no one else did that and yes, I am sure it was expensive to do). Now, they order sausage from their restaurant supply company. So from a corporate perspective, they have cut labor cost and product cost in half — but, they quality and uniqueness from before is gone. So now I would say, this is YOURTYPICAL Pub Food. I would still go there and have a pint of Guinness, but my expectations for food would be much lower than before.

I was very excited to finally try this place out this past weekend, since it is so highly reviewed in Knoxville. But for advertising that they authentic London Gastropub I was highly disappointed. I love London it is one of my favorite cities in the world and I actual love British food. My favorite thing to get is fish and chips so I thought why not try their fish and chips it is such a staple of pub grub. First off I do admit I should have read the description of this dish better, but I was at a British themed pub I excepted beer battered fish, not panko-crusted. That was their first mistake the second was saying served with English chips. These were shoestring fries, British chips are more like steak fries. To leave this review on a high note though we got the House Made Pimento Cheese & Bacon Hushpuppies. I am normally not a pimento cheese fan and the person I was eating with wanted to try and I was game. These were amazing. I never knew pimento cheese needs to be warm to be super yummy. Highly recommend.

Apparently they have been bought out. Same atmosphere. Shepards pie is horrible.(Use to love it with the Lamb chops) Mainly mashed potatoes. Fish was good and chip where dead. It use to be my local recommendations place. Not any more.

How have I not reviewed C&G yet? Odd. If you haven’t been here, it’s definitely a downtown staple! I hope it continues its excellence with its new owner, but we’ll see. Beers are great. Food is great. Cocktails are very nice. Beer garden is awesome. Jazz nook next door is super awesome. Brunch is f’ing awesome. Brunch is actually the place to start if you’ve never been here. I love it. Or, just stop in for a beer around 3pm. That’s fun too. Mmmm… Beer.. .. .. ..

First of all, I wish I had read all the 1 and 2 star reviews. The star average they have does not accurately reflect what you’ll experience. I really did not like this place and I won’t go back. The assistant manager was very rude to my guest. It is a great place to go if you want your dinner guest humiliated… you’ve been warned. I’ve never hope a place would go out of business… but it would be an improvement for Knoxville if it did. Of course all of this is my opinion and your experience may be better. Good luck.

Great place ! This is our second visit and it was better the second time! For an appetizer we had the meat and cheese tray. Wow My husband ordered the Shepards Pie with the Lamb Chops. My son and I both orders off the Holiday menu and it was terrific Can’t wait to be back

I came here for Sunday brunch… And what happened was sad. I don’t believe it was the staff’s fault, but the management’s. Crown and Goose has an interesting bar, and I sat down at it. Lets just say it’s a U bar and its quite large. And behind it sits only one bartender, who supposedly didn’t get tips from the previous night. So let’s just say, disgruntled employee? Yeah. I got a drink at the bar… And well when it came time to pay for my check, it took 10 minutes. I got my check, and the pen didn’t work. I had to go out and try to get a pen after the bartender forgot to get a pen for me. Our party got seated and it took another 10 – 15 minutes to just get our order. I don’t know if it was under staffing, or it was just busy. It took another 45 minutes for people to start getting food. So let’s just say, if you’re busy on Sunday and you have places to go… This place isn’t quite the place to eat unless you reserved your seat/table.

I went for lunch and had the fish and chips. Excellent! Fish is tender and flaky. The light breaded coating is nicely seasoned and crisp. The fries may be the best in Knoxville. Thin. Cooked just right. Not over or under salted. The place is nearly empty at lunch time so service was fast and polite. The food came quickly.

This was my first time enjoying the pub atmosphere at this emporium. I felt comfortable in casual clothing but was treated by the staff as if I were better dressed. First of all, we were a difficult bunch, as we all showed at various times, then wished to await everyone before ordering. The first three of us got the pimento cheese hushpuppies. They were warm and crunchy with a soft, mushy cheese interior. Just a touch of heat, but nothing off-putting. My young bride enjoyed her sangria so much that she ordered a second, assuring that I would be driving home. I had the smoked duck breast with kimchi, carrots and duck confit. Cooked perfectly, it was tender, dark and just fatty enough. The parsnip purée was sweet and complemented the meat very well. I would happily bulldoze others for the kimchi. My young bride had the wedge salad and added shrimp($ 8 extra). She sez the balsamic onions were not to her liking, but the homemade 1000 Island was spot on, as were the bleu cheese crumbles. The big complaint was that two of the four shrimp had been sliced, but not properly de-veined. Ick! She corrected the problem herself, but the mental issue still lingers. While the meal was pricey, that is something we understood beforehand. the four-year-old in our party was treated to special servings at our request. Food — mostly really good; service — better.

Some of the best food in Knoxville if you are willing to spend a little more money. The seasonal menus items keep it an interesting place to go to year round, while the classic favorites like the Fish and Chips are unique enough to set it apart from the rest. Only negatives are the portion sizes can be a little on the small side and the prices make it so that dinner is a special occasion, at least on my salary.

Came here before a little acoustic show. We decided we wanted to try as many places as we could in each state or town before we move! I’m not going to rate it fully on food since we only got the meat cheese tray. It wasnt the best we have ever had and it wasn’t the worst we have ender ate.. I’ll probably just go with cheese and cheese only next time. We found out that we are not a fan of the meat selections that go on meat/cheese trays. Haha That’s okay you have to learn some how. The arrangement was pretty. I think it was lacking something tho. I still enjoyed it and we ate everything. but the last part of the meat. Ha We did have a pleasent server named Jessica. I had a Sawworks Basil saison beer. Yummy! She let me try it before hand. Thanks girl(; They triva by surprise! We didn’t play but we joined along in guessing for ourselves. Cool spot nice decore. Beer garden next to it. Pretty large place. Nice wrap around bar. Love the name! Definitely check this place out!

I have never been able to understand why so many of my friends love this place. The drinks are average bar fare and the food is too pricey to be just okay. It gets very noisy when they’re busy. I have yet to find someone on the wait staff who is friendly or attentive. They do have a nice patio area to the side and back of the restaurant(when weather permits), but even that doesn’t seem to make up for the run-of-the-mill experience I’ve had every time I’ve been there.

This place is a refreshing break from the Downtown Hipster Vortex. Of course I’ve only had lunch at Crown & Goose so I can’t vouch for a Hipster-Free evening experience. For all I know they could be tending to their urban chicken«farm»(of 4 chickens) during the late lunch/early afternoon time. That being said, this is a fine establishment. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. The staff is very professional(efficient, friendly and no overkill). Very clean place. They have a very nice selection of beers, wines and small batch bourbons(as well as a full bar). The food is great. The CBLT Chicken sandwich is fanF*$#intastic! Burgers are great. Although, I’m not a big fan of the potato planks that come with the burger. I do like the chips. They are very thin and perfectly cooked fries(chips). Tried the fish & chips. These are tongue slappers!!! They don’t do the traditional beer batter. I love fish & chips but I often steer away because of the beer batter. Don’t get me wrong, I like beer batter. But, it’s a sticky wicket. It can end up being soggy and greasy in a short amount of time or improperly cooked. Beer batter also leaves me feeling like I ate a spare tire sized qualude. Zzzzzzzzzz. Crown & Goose has a unique approach to fish & chips. Their fish has a panko crust. It’s super crispy and not greasy. Man, they are really good! As a side note, the side of slaw is very well done. I often leave slaw untouched. Tried their’s and ate the whole deal. Kayla was my barkeep. She is a delightful server. She has a great personality(genuine without bullshit and flair). She is also pleasantly well versed in the small batch bourbons. Make sure to ask for some Tennessee Jim’s hot sauce to make your meal 2 Thumbs Up! The guy uses a salt brine fermentation process and grows his own peppers. True genius. Go for the Trinidad Scorpion. Just don’t rub your eyes!!! Great place to unwind, have a drink, a bite and mind your own business.

This place is perfectly fine if you are wanting a glass of wine and a pretty decent cheese plate. They have a pretty legit patio and some delicious appetizers such as the pimento cheese and bacon fritters. I have been here a couple of times for lunch and it is a fine option(half soup/sand/etc). I never have good luck here, the entrees are usually off or the service is lacking so I almost never choose C&G for dinner outings. For the price, I would expect a little better.

I have gone back and forth with C & G for several years but for a while now it has been consistently good. It is a comfortable spot; I prefer to sit at the bar or out in the courtyard(weather permitting). They have a really good happy hour, albeit short(I think it ends at 6 p.m.) with wine, drafts, and snacks. The dinner menu is at least partially seasonal, with changes to entrée features several times a year. There’s always a good risotto or gnocchi or pasta dish as well .Some classics on the menu are the burger(really delicious — get with Red Dragon cheese and fresh jalapenos), the bangers and mash, fish & chips, San Marzano tomato soup w/Brie grilled cheese. They also have lunch & brunch options like a turkey avocado club, Croque Monsieur, and ebelskiever. They have DELICIOUS salads as well; the Kensington Garden is the best with roasted eggplant, portabellas, and goat cheese. As for small plates: the pimento cheese hushpuppies, chicken wings, and mozzarella croquettes are all really good. I take issue you with their cheese board and refuse to get it. While they have a good selection, the portions are ENTIRELY too small — and I realize they aren’t going to be huge, but these are cheese’s I’m familiar with, familiar with the price of, and see on other cheese plates in town at a larger portion for the price(or just lower the price on your current). I love that they have fresh oysters, and always look forward to mussels on their menu.

The Crown and Goose was great as per usual. We tried the hush puppies. Hello, new besties! The burger was great tried it with red dragon cheese, stop the bus! The planks were a new twist, but a spicy nicety. Our waitress was Über friendly and fun to chat with. She was knowledgeable about the menu and specials. Good crowd for a Thursday night.

I have been on a mission to find the best burger in Knoxville. After a suggestion from a wonderful Unilocaler named Tara(I am forever in your debt), I decided to give Crown and Goose a go at the title. I often find myself here for brunch(seriously, who can get past those sweet little vixens they call Danish Ebelskivers?!), but I often forget that their dinner menu is outstanding. We started our meal of with their Pimento Cheese and Bentons Bacon Hushpuppies. Dear Pimento Cheese and Bentons Bacon Hushpuppies, I think I love you. Sincerely, Erika. Crispy on the outside, gooey and bacony on the inside. The chili sauce they are served in is the perfect compliment with a bite. You’re probably doing it wrong if you forget to order these! I ordered the burger with Red Dragon(Brown ale and mustard seed cheese), fresh jalapeños, and caramelized onions. It was served on a soft potato roll and cooked to perfection. Normally, I am disappointed by the lack of seasoning and flavor in the burger itself, but this was not the case. The only thing that didn’t shine to a 5 star rating was the potato planks that were served with the burger. They were pretty good, but you could tell that they had been cooked earlier and just heated up as ordered. That was a bummer, but not enough to outshine the meal. Our server was friendly and snarky… just the way that I like them. You know you have a good server when your glass is never empty and you want to invite them to come sit at your table with you! All in all, I’d say, without doubt, that Crown & Goose is a stronger contender for the best burger in Knoxville. Yeah, I said it. And what?!
