Eating House 1849

This used to be Roy’s, the famous «chain» in Hawaii. Menu has been re-​done and is wildly divergent. The waiter says some of it is still Asian Fusion which may be so, but whatever you call it, there’s is some very good cooking going on here. They are proud of their kitchen since it is the center piece behind clear glass. The place is very busy and very big. Thank you Eating House 1849 for taking reservations! If you can stand to eat early, reserve for 5 PM and ask for a table next to or near the wall which has a sunset view. You will look out onto beautiful green fields, be blown away by the sunset, and be far enough away from the noise which will increase as the night goes on. Best location in the house.
The menu choices we had were perfect. A great bar serves innovative generous drinks. A clam appetizer we shared would have been enough for dinner with a salad. We ordered the paella and the tavern fried chicken/​mashed potatoes. Really outstanding. So many unusual things on the menu – you could go there with 10 people and they would all be able to find something they would be crazy about. Our server was just the right combination of helpful and humble as well as really caring about the place. Best of all this restaurant is not a bank breaker.
