Spent around 20 minutes looking at all the different kitchen items. There is also a pretty nice selection of wine! As I rounded the back corner I was elated to find a «Pot Minder»! The night before I was making brown butter spaghetti and the pot boiled over. As I was cleaning up the mess I was thinking — there has got to be something out there to help this! Behold …the«Pot Minder» — a stone to keep boil overs from happening! Joyfully I went to the counter to pay and… was told they don’t take cards. I just spent the afternoon spending $$$ around town with my debit card at several small stores and found it odd that at this one, one of the larger in town did not take cards. Especially since I stood at the counter I could plainly see their pin input machine by the cash register!!! Not sure if their machine was out of order? Not sure if they had a minimum purchase requirement(I would have gone back and found a few more items if they did!) I didn’t see a sign on the door that says«this store is cash only». If had had known that we would have skipped going in… It was all really odd and made me feel really uncomfortable hence the one star. Cute place but something is a bit off here. Unless you really want a kitchen item I would skip this place and spend more time in the other shops whose people were über friendly and took debit cards!

The Ginger Grater is a general store located in La Conner, Washington. It is a unique general store with fine gourmet foods and plenty of other stuff. While I waited on a nice bench right outside the shop, my wife browsed the store. By the way, that bench is a nice spot to relax and people watch. Service was friendly and helpful. She ended up purchasing a bottle of Cranberry wine for $ 11.00 and a magnet for $ 4.75. Check them out when you are visiting this charming town.

The store itself is great, but I will not be back. Living in Laconner, I try to patronize local business rather than shop on line. On line is easier, but doesn’t do anything for the local economy. Myself and my two teenage children(military family, clean cut, no piercings or tattoos, no baggy clothes or oversized bags) went in to pick up some kitchen things I needed for my new home that I purchased on my own as a single parent. To my shock and disgust, the ladies ringing me up opened the product boxes(a shaker jar) un wrapped the bubble wrap, looked inside everything to make sure I was not stealing anything. A quick look in the box would’ve sufficed, but no. As I am giving her my credit card, she continues to eyeball us and even triple checks my ID(which in most cases would be welcome but the tone already was suspicious). My son commented, as we left, «nothing like being made to feel like a common criminal in your own town!» If a teenage boy can pick up on that, you know it was obvious. Neat stuff, and they have my polish pottery which I was delighted to find locally, but the people who were staffing(I don’t know if they were the owners or hired staff) it… left a lot to be desired. I think I will stick to online shopping for my polish pottery and unless I’m in a pinch, I won’t be back.

They have a bunch of cool kitchen gadgets, a big selection of bamboo cutting boards, cool mugs and other specialty kitchen items. When we’re cruising through La Conner we like to stop in and check it out. I’ve probably gotten a food scraper here, LOL. I think their prices may be a little more expensive than say, Target, but it is a touristy area, so to be expected. I doubt anyone would ever go out of their way to buy kitchen items here, but fun to peruse.

Every time I walk in here I wonder if this place is what IKEA’s kitchen section was like before the restaurant opened and they discovered medium density fiberboard could be used to make mass-produced furniture. A mini, upscale IKEA. with lots of tasty olives!

Walking around La Conner and popping in all the various shops on a rainy day. Popped into this one and saw the lady at the counter shoot a look and say something under her breath to the man next to her. I recognized the look but tried to brush it off. Sure enough the man proceeded to follow my wife and I around the store wherever we went. After about three minutes of this I told her let’s go — despite her being in awe of something — and left. Too bad, we were just a young couple in town with money to spend — prejudice kept us from spending it here.

If you’re a condiment queen like me, this store is heaven! They’ve got a whole room devoted to olive oils, mustards, sauces, preserves, mixes, wines — just about anything you could add to your food to make it taste better. And you can try almost anything before buying. It’s a little expensive, but that’s to be expected with gourmet and artisan brands. I was especially happy to find ableskiver mix — which is for making the Norwegian buttermilk pancake balls that my late Grandma used to make for us when we had sleepovers at her house. Grandma made them from scratch, of course, but I’m so happy to finally give my special pan a go. This store had an OK selection of cooking gadgets and serving dishes, but the tasting room with the goodies was definitely what drew me in.

This is THE place if you’re into cooking, baking or kitchen«stuff»! I’ve found cute gifts for teachers here, and awesome kitchen décor that I SO wanted to purchase(HUGE hanging kitchen utensils to suspend over our kitchen bar — if only we could afford them! They were a little too pricey for us!). There are gadgets galore, and all in a huge range of prices. Fun place!
