This place is so bad that I’m compelled to write this review FIVEYEARS after eating here. I don’t remember the details of that horrible experience, as I’ve blocked it from my memory due to the extreme nausea it was causing. But I do remember that the table was filthy when I sat down. A server came to clean it and used a moldy smelling rag. That was special. The falafel was almost certainly from a box. I ordered some sort of kabob– I believe it was beef– and what came out was absolutely dog food. I’m sure of it. It was a pile of tepid, bland meat atop a bed of slowly wilting greens. The food was so bad that we sent it back. They had the gall to charge us for it. Sadly, it may be true that the closer you get to the beach, the worse the food gets. This place is a prime candidate for one of those restaurant overhaul shows.

Wow, that’s too bad that all the other reviewers gave this place 2 stars or below, but I’m giving it a 4 simply because the food was exceptionally good and their choices for breakfasts was purdy awesome. If you’re trying to stay in shape this would be the good breakfast stop on a nice Sunday morning because they’re all protein choices. While sitting along an amazing view of the shores I winded up having an omelet with ground beef as a hearty choice, and it was tasty. The service was good and when you’re here, there’s no rush at all, so take your time, relax and savor your food. The portion size here is good and no need to take any left overs. The advantage is that you have a nice walk at the end of your meal:)

I feel sad giving a one star review for this place since the location definitely deserves better. The outside patio looks gorgeous and it’s at a top location in La Jolla. The waiter was apparently new so he apologized that he took his time– no problem and I kind of felt for him and it was nice of him to say that(although it wasn’t really that busy, more busy if you just start working and are not used to serving). It took a while to get the appetizer, which was just hummus and pita bread. The hummus was way too«watery» and didn’t taste good. I had the Mediterranean moussaka as a main dish– with eggplant instead of potato as the Greek one has– and it was OK. My sister asked what they recommended to order, and when she wanted to choose that dish they ran out of it for the day. The dishes my sis and friends ended up having were OK, nothing more or less and not worth coming back for. When we wanted to order wine, the waiter told us it was«Bring Your Own Bottle» day, so he suggested buying a bottle across the street at the liquor store without a corkage fee. OK, I don’t mind a bit of walking and it definitely saves money, but it was a bit odd not to mention it before hand or on the menu or on a post it for that matter instead of when ordering. The total bill was not much because of this, but I would not come back just for the location, and it’s overall not enough for Meh.

I wish I could write a more informed review, but, since the owners are apparently liars, I didn’t get a chance to eat here. My mom picked out this restaurant and we were so looking forward to eating there. It was a Sunday, so we checked the website to make sure they’d be open. The website says, «Open daily for: Breakfast 8 a.m.-noon($ 5-$ 14), Lunch and Dinner noon-9 p.m.($ 8-$ 24)» but when we got there at 7, they were closed. How rude.

Absolutely horrible service and disgusting food. Our waiter(could’ve been the owner) was extremely rude and took over 15 minutes to bring us water. Yeah, just water took 15 minutes. The place wasn’t even packed. When our food arrived, it was prepared with nothing that was listed on the menu. The waiter, total arrogant snob(blonde hair European woman… so you know who to avoid), gave us an angry look when we decided to send it back and get what we ordered. To my dismay, they brought my girlfriend and I the same exact dish again! I couldn’t believe it… so we got up and left. As we were walking out, the waiter stood, stared and laughed at us. Anyone giving this place more than 2 starts has some sort of connection with the owner. AVOIDATALLCOSTS! I give it 2 to 3 months before it goes under, unless the owner is laundering money. EWWWWWWW!

Can’t believe I didn’t review this place way back when I first came here(probably almost a year ago). Could have sworn I did, weird. My friends and I came here to try something new in La Jolla since we felt like we had worn out all our usual breakfast places. The view was pretty awesome but that’s where the awesomeness ended. The service was OK, but the food was horrible. I ordered a muffin with yogurt(the«duet») and I’m pretty sure it was a Costco muffin, which aren’t BAD, persay, but I wanted a housemade muffin as I was paying $ 10+. My friend is ALL about the mimosas, and when his arrived he was severely disappointed. It was tiniest mimosa in the history of mimosas and was $ 8.50ish, I believe. My friends both ordered egg dishes and didn’t finish their plates. These were two 23-year-old hungover and starving guys, mind you… NOT a good sign. We left this place still hungry and vowing never to return. I figure the only reason they are still in business is they catch the unsuspecting tourists who don’t know any better.

The Blue Wave is an awsome up and coming. They lack a little on customer service now, but as people start going they will get it right. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, and since he did not have his updated wine list he let us sit in his place until 2 in the morning with no corking fee. The humus was great the service takes a while but people come on are you really in a hurry to leave a place with such an amazing view? The fire pit is amazing and the hooka is the cheapest hooka i have ever paid for anaywhere. $ 10 and $ 7 refills. I recomend going before the weekend… so before thursday to get an intimate experience and see what the place is like. Soon to come is a blue room which you can bring all your friends and lounge in and smoke hooka till the wee hours! Go have fun!

A woman there, not sure if she was a waitress, but took our«to-go» order, was very rude, the food was mediocre, the selection was minimal, and the place was dirty. I honestly couldn’t believe the woman that took our order, after discovering we had made reservations for a competing local restaurant, Jack’s, for later that night, for my birthday, had the gall to accuse them of being, in her words, «awful». Even insisting our plans were«a mistake». She then continued to put her foot in her mouth even further by insisting we were going to have an awful time unless we «drink a lot, then the food will taste alright.» I’m not quite sure what her angle was, if this was indeed some sort of sales tactic, the kind of which I am not familiar with, but in the end it failed horribly and made her, and the restaurant look terrible. Even if they figured out how to use a mop, clean their windows, and pass a health inspection, I still wouldn’t set foot in this place if my life depended on it. The worse part was that my girlfriend was so embarrassed by this woman’s behavior, that she just politely nodded to every stupid thing she said, while I fumed with rage, unable to say anything because I knew how hungry my girlfriend was. Seriously, it’s that bad… Oh, and BTW, the dinner at Jack’s was delicious! The service was exceptional, and they treated us right. Every bite was even more delicious knowing how wrong that **** at blu wave was. So, do yourself a favor and go to Jack’s.

The only reason I give 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the killer view of La Jolla coves. The beautiful view is where my affection of this place ends and frustration with the service begins. A really nice gentleman got my husband’s and my attention while walking in La Jolla saying happy hour just started. We were in the mood for a drink and some food, so I thought this would be perfect. We were seated and then we waited… and waited… and waited. The table behind us was seated and brought drinks before anyone came to ask for our order. I said something out loud but it was still several minutes before the girl came to take our order. We already decided that we would have one drink and leave, so my husband ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of wine and some hummus. My items came quickly but there was issue with his beer and they ended up no having it. He selected another and she brought it out fairly quick. Then we were left alone for another 15 minutes before the girl came back. We had to ask the gentleman who got us to come into the place to get the girl to bring us our check. We were sooooooo frustrated. There are other places in La Jolla with a nice view, so I would recommend finding somewhere other than Blue Wave.

From a far it looked like a cool place but the service nor food really wowed me. It was lunch and slow so maybe that had something to do with it but not really impressed. Related– to restaurants(out of 5 possible stars) Venue– 4 Service– 2.5 Food factor– 2.5 Overall exp– 2.75 Stars Drawbacks– A little expensive, food not great.

The view is great, food is decent and service is sketchy. First, the hostess was young and and lacking in customer service skills. She wasn’t rude – she was actually quite friendly – she just didn’t know how to make the customer happy. We had to wait for a few minutes and then when we were being escorted to our table, a waiter stopped the hostess to say that she could seat us, but we’re going to have to wait 10 – 15 min before anyone could even take our drink order. Ok… kinda rude. From my experience as a hostess, after seating us, the waiter should have asked the hostess to take our drink order if he was busy – and not in front of us! I just thought that was kind of bizarre. Someone besides that waiter(maybe the manager?) did come over to take our drink order and assure us that someone would be with us soon. We still had to wait longer than we should have had to, but he was kind and apologetic. After that, the service was fine. I ordered the lamb kabob which was overcooked, but the flavor on everything was good. My husband ordered a gyro, which he enjoyed. I love Mediterranean food and this place was not nearly as good as most other places I’ve been to. I would skip it if you’re not sure where to go for dinner. There are plenty of other outstanding restaurants in La Jolla you could spend the same amount of money on(Crab Catcher).

Probably the worst service I’ve ever had and I have never complained about service at any eatery I’ve ever been to until coming here for lunch this past saturday. The server took forever bringing us water and then after we ordered our appetizer of the falafel platter, it took over 30 minutes for that… then our entrees, chicken pesto sandwich w/pasta salad, and my chicken shawerma wrap w/fries, too another 30 minutes. CAN I just say the food was… DISGUSTING… the sandwich was SALTY and the pasta had no sauce on it, like it was just cooked and they overlooked putting the sauce? My wrap was decent except it turned out to be more of a veggie wrap with 1 small piece of chicken in it. the FRIES were so hard they were like chips… Not once did the server apologize for the delay of our meals, the only 2 things that came out quickly were our glass of wine and mimosa and the check at the end of our meal. I can understand if the place was packed and very crowded, but we had beaten the lunch rush… We did not complain about anything the entire time we were there and tried to enjoy what we could out of the meal but thinking back on it. it was pretty bad… overall… My friend and I definitely agreed to never go back there again! My first time leaving little tip ever.

The food here is the very good and the portions are just right. Gotta love the patio area in the day time with the ocean and sun, very relaxing! Good spot to just relax and sip on an iced tea/coffee in the daytime. I recommend trying the hummus from the appetizer section, it hits the spot. The service here is great and I have always received good hospitality out of all the times I have came here. Only thing is they close around 9ish in the evening, but its still cool, haha.

Went here with some friends. We pre ordered our meals. I had the chicken sawerma, which I thought was pretty good. My friend got the salmon kebab, which was really dry. Our appetizers was this humus dip and other dips, which I thought was pretty bland. Food wasn’t that great, I definitely expected something more«meditteranean.» The biggest downfall was the fact that when we went here, they didn’t have an alcohol license so they couldnt serve any drinks!

Mediterranean culture is pretty abundant in La Jolla. A lot of Middle-Eastern students attend the International School of English that is located in the Cove, and the Living Room sells a lot of Middle-Eastern food, which why it is not surprising Blu Wave is such a hotspot in La Jolla. The restaurant is in La Jolla Cove and it offers plenty of delectable and healthy Mediterranean dishes at a great price. The place is pretty affordable considering the location and the modern décor is very refined. Most of the entreess are a little over $ 10, but the Blu Wave has got ya covered whether you are in the mood for chicken, fish, steak, or veggies. The Chicken Sawerma, is my favorite dish it comes with hummus and salad and pickles. Hmmm. Blue Wave is a chic eatery with an excellent menu and it also serves breakfast. Although I have never had the chance to eat breakfast there, the selection looks like the perfect way to start your day. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite restaurants because the gourmet food is so tasty and it is they offer a great variety of healthy dishes.
