At the first stop on the Bite La Jolla tour, we tried the tuna salad sandwich and Reuben. The tuna salad was bland but I’d definitely come back for the rueben. Delicious sauce and clean restaurant

Sad. I came to the Unilocal page finally to write my review but unfortunately after the business is closed. I’m still going to write my thoughts anyway so hopefully the business owner sees it. We found a wonderful deal on Groupon over the summer of 2014. The pictures of the large deli sandwiches were so enticing we had to try it. Though I cannot eat a full pastrami sandwich anymore it remains one of my favorite treats. The deli was very clean, with lots of space(not exactly the norm in La Jolla) and well decorated. We were warmly greeted by a man in the front before we made our way back to the cashier who was also exceptionally friendly. Of course I ordered a pastrami sandwich on rye bread with only mustard and a side of horseradish. Also I added a bag of chips and extra side of a veggie salad. The food was outstanding!!! The sandwich was huge and split between 2 people was still enough to fill our tummies. The man who initially greeted us(and I assume to be the owner) was so cheerful and enthusiastic as he checked on us several times, offered us free pop(which we declined) and encouraged us to take our time despite the fact the the deli closed soon after we ordered. We were definitely looking forward to a return visit. Since the location closed we had to use the second Groupon at the downtown location and had a drastically different(in a negative way) experience. It’s really too bad they closed here. I hope to see them pop up somewhere in North County soon.

The funny thing about reviews is that it’s all subjective. I don’t really get why people get so worked up when it’s not EXACTLY like some place you ate at on the other side of the country. Does that qualify for a 1 star? Did someone spit in your food or did you find hair in it? So ridiculous. [/rant] This place is awesome. If you like BIG deli sandwiches that are tasty, well made and reasonably priced, then this place is for you. I’m a big fan of the BOSS. Potato Salad and cole slaw are awesome too. Love this place!

Nice deli with good variety of sandwich choices. I went on a Wednesday so it wasn’t so busy. The person who took my order was very sweet and helpful. I went with a ½ Bologna sandwich because why not? I hadn’t had one since I was a kid and I wanted to reminisce. The sandwiches are made to order and it took around 10 minutes for two sandwiches. My sandwich came with a pickle and a side of macaroni salad which was soooo guuud. The sandwich was piled to the ceiling with bologna and was fresh and quite tasty I definitely could not have fit in a full one. I Would recommend this deli for a quick and simple lunch.

The restaurant is conveniently located by all the shops, so it’s a good place to refuel before continuing to do some serious wallet damage at the stores. I saw that there was a Unilocal deal of $ 10 for $ 15, but the cashier told me that it takes about 45 minutes for it to be processed into the computer before you can use the deal. So FYI, don’t go in expecting to purchase the deal and use it immediately. However, he did give me a free bag of chips and I redeemed my free soda drink! SCORE. I ordered the crab melt panini, which the owner informed me was made with freshly caught stone crab. They are definitely generous with their meats; we were tempted to ask for extra slices of bread because there was enough to make a second sandwich! My favorite part of the meal was actually the potato salad, though. It was very refreshing and light for a potato salad. It’s a good place to try if you’re close by and need to grab something quick and filling.

This is truly one of the best… check that… this IS the best place to get a Chicago/New York/Back East Style Deli Sandwich I have ever been to! The food was unbelievable! My only regret was that the food was SOOOOOOGOOD… Dad and I ate our Reuben Sandwiches before I thought of taking a picture! Mom had the Boss Sandwich and that was equally outstanding. Fortunately, for me, Mom can’t eat as fast as Dad and I do.(I do have a picture to enclose… I just don’t know where.) For the Price range I put $$. Most every sandwich I saw was in the $ 10 — $ 14 range. Believe me, for the quality and quantity of Kosher Meat that is piled high on these master pieces… it is a very small price to pay. The Owner was extremely gracious and very humble. I look forward to frequenting his establishment every chance I get!

This place is the biggest sham I have experienced in a long time!!! When I read about the restaurant and the description from its own site I went into this thinking, «I was going to an authentic New York City delicatessen». After all, that’s what they claim. Instead, we walked into a high falutin sandwich shop, no different than a Subway sandwich shop. My corned beef sandwich was piled high with pink, lukewarm, limp, flavorless, processed sandwich meat. The potato salad was runny and sweet, as if they poured a jar of sugar into it. At an «authentic» New York City deli, the meat is smoked. The only thing smoking about this place is their lies.

The sandwiches are prepared after you order, fresh & tasty. The ½ sandwich was just right for me The samdwich comes with a pickle on the side along with your choice of potato salad or coleslaw. Generous portions friendly service good deli food done the right way. Next time I’m going for the Vienna red hot!

Had the BLT-AVO sandwich and it was pretty good. Very thick bacon, so it was a bit of a tough chew but better than the overcooked bacon that some other deli’s give out. But it wasn’t anything stellar and the service left a little to be desired. I bought a coupon from here on Unilocal,$ 10 for $ 15. Then when I ordered my sandwich and showed her my phone with the Unilocal coupon, she didn’t know what it was, then figured I had just paid $ 10 and put in $ 10 off my order. After I corrected her about the coupon she went«oh» and fixed it The rest of the purchase seemed off, like she wasn’t paying much attention/didn’t care. The cashier didn’t know what bottled drinks were there so when I said«the butterscotch root beer» she rang up a fountain drink. Maybe she’s new, but she definitely wasn’t good for my first experience here. Maybe more training or some sort of «sorry I’m new» would have helped alleviate some of the frustration.

You would think that I would have known better than to get deli in La Jolla. After spending most of my life in a town with a countless offering of great deli offerings, I should have stuck to what La Jolla does well(which is quite a lot). But after getting to Jersey Mike’s after closing, I still wanted a sandwich and figured I’d take a chance. The gal behind the counter recommended The Boss. Simply put, it was just awful. The pastrami was stringy, fatty, and tasted nothing like what I was used to at Brent’s. After two bites, I threw the rest out. How bad was that sandwich? So bad that I had to go to Johnnie’s Pastrami the next day just to get the taste out of my mouth.

So, so pleasantly surprised by my delicious pastrami sandwich and the signature salad. Other reviewers have complained about the dry pastrami. My pastrami sandwich was piled high with melty, flavorful, and tender pastrami. The pastrami was lined with delicate ribbons of fat. The rye bread was also out of this world soft(but not too soft) and fresh. One of the best pastrami sandwiches I have ever tried. The accompanying beet salad tasted refreshing and was not overloaded with mayo(which I hate). The signature salad was full of tender chicken, salami, and flavorful goodies. The honey mustard dressing is fantastic!

Feeling the pinch, I used a Unilocal deal here to buy lunch. At first the lady who helped me was a bit confused with me waving my phone in her face, claiming to have paid online, but she was a good sport about it. She checked with the manager and helped me out with ordering since I was faffing for ages. The salad I got in the end was huge and yummy. The pie was slightly dry but the milkshake was amazing and kept me going for a good few hours. Would come back especially for the kind and helpful staff!

What a ridiculously tasty breakfast I found myself this morning. Definitely not the small bite, pre-dive, that I was looking for, but damn it’s tasty! If you find yourself in La Jolla swing by this Jewish deli for a treat

My half pastrami sandwich was so boring it was snoring when it arrived at my table. The rye bread was ok but not super fresh and not grilled either. They forgot my Swiss cheese and my mustard too. There was a small blip of Russian dressing on top of the pile of meat… so the sandwich was way too dry. I had to send it back for the cheese, the mustard, and more Russian dressing. There was such a huge portion of pastrami that I took half of it off and I’m saving it to make a much better pastrami sammich at home! This pricey half Pastrami sandwich was $ 7.45. The pastrami was a bit salty and a bit dry… not my favorite brand of Pastrami. The place was mostly empty but it was between lunch and dinner. I didn’t notice all the yummy condiments I could have added at the bottom of the menu, and the cashier who took my order didn’t mention them either, even though I did ask her advice about what’s good. My half sandwich was overpriced at $ 7.45, and since I didn’t enjoy it and it was expensive, I don’t think I’ll be back. A whole pastrami sandwich is $ 10.95. There are better places to get a sandwich in the area. This was my second visit. I was also disappointed to note that there were a lot of sides behind a glass case, and every single one of them looked kind of dry and unappetizing, and not too fresh. I always feel it’s important to judge any restaurant or deli by the quality of the LEAST fresh item in the case. During my visit, I wouldn’t have ordered any of those particular sides which I could see in the glass case, as none of them looked fresh enough! Why would I judge a deli by the LEAST fresh item in the case? Because a deli with high standards won’t allow something to be displayed which looks old, dry, or not very fresh. Also, this is only what the customer sees. If they allow me to see these dry, old-looking sides… what’s in the kitchen, where I can’t see? I feel that standards were higher on my first visit to Nosh, soon after they had opened. On my first visit, I had been happy with my Crabmeat Salad sandwich, which was tasty and fresh, although expensive at $ 13.45. But my recent visit left me feeling turned off by Nosh. Next time I’m hungry in La Jolla, I won’t be tempted by Nosh. My first visit was a 4-star visit, but my recent visit was only a 2-star visit. I’ll average those 2 scores together and give them a 3 star review overall, which I feel is generous under the circumstances…

Had breakfast at Nosh on a Saturday morning around 8. I was the only one in there, but a couple of people came in after me. Pretty good sized restaurants with several places to sit. Also, very clean. There is a nice breakfast selection. I went with the Nosh omelette, which is ham, American cheese, peppers, and onions. It comes with a ton of home fries and your choice of toast. I chose to get an everything bagel, which is an upcharge. The omelette is large, and filled with ingredients, including good quality ham. Also, there is a ton of cheese. I hadn’t had an omelette with American cheese in a very long time, and I loved it. The cheese melts very well. Also, there was so much of the ingredients used in the omelette, every bite had every ingredient in it. Very well made omelette. The potatoes weren’t as good. They are cooked and seasoned well, but I got an acrid flavor from them. I think the peppers and onions that are cooked with the potatoes were cooked too long. Since they were burnt, the burnt flavor kind of permeated the entire potato dish. Even hot sauce and some extra salt and pepper couldn’t help them. The bagel had a lot of seasoning, which is necessary for an everything bagel. But, it was too dense and not very chewy. So, didn’t love the bagel. I’d definitely order the omelette again, but may see if they have options other than the home fries.

A fist sized portion of meat on two pieces of bread and a thin tomato plus lettuce and deli mustard for FIFTEENDOLLARS is not memorable or worth repeating. The reviews on breakfast sound somewhat interesting but this place is not on my radar for even 1⁄3 what I paid for a sandwich. Tasteless, bland, overpriced and just general crap for way more money than is even remotely reasonable. Subway kills this place and I wouldn’t feed Subway to my dog. Nosh will be out of business by 10-15-2014 downtown. Good riddance.

I stopped at Nosh on the way home from work to pick up some dinner. It was my first time visiting Nosh, but my husband has been here a few times and loves their sandwiches(specifically The Boss). I really wasn’t sure what I wanted, but the guy working gave me some suggestions and even let me taste the crabmeat. I was sold on the crabmeat and had that in their stuffed avocado salad with their raspberry vinaigrette. My order came up very quickly and when he was putting it in the bag, he made sure to plastic wrap the dressing container to make sure it didn’t spill. I really appreciated that. When I got home, I took the salad out, it was much bigger than I expected, but I guess for almost $ 15, it better be! Along with the avocado and crabmeat, the salad included tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, and mixed greens. It was really good and I couldn’t eat it all in one meal. It still tasted great the next day. My husband couldn’t finish all of The Boss(corned beef, pastrami, swiss w/o the Russian dressing it usually comes with), but he was close! A little on the pricey side, but the quality of the food is definitely worth trying, at least once. Service was quick and friendly. I’ll definitely be back to try their breakfast… they have a monte cristo I’m eyeing. They also have a small bar style seating setup outside on the sidewalk(probably seats about 4), so you can likely sit out there with your pet… I’ve seen a guy sitting out there with his pet bird!

I thought this place would have better ratings, I’m shocked! I’ve been here 3 times and love it. The service is impeccable. I wish I knew her name but every time I stop by, the same woman is delivering our dishes. Brownish hair, maybe in her 30s or 40s. She’s super sweet! I’m not a fan of salty things so I usually opt out of Corned Beef but they do have the Turkey Beef which is really, really yum! Their sandwiches are huge! You can seriously split the sandwich with someone and be full. Their Matzo Ball soup is amazing and so are their breakfast dishes. I think I’ve gotten the Matzo Ball soup every time I’ve visited because it’s so fresh. I love a good Jewish deli with quality food — they know what’s up! I know I’ll be back when I’m in the downtown LJ area again.

I think you should know that Nosh also provides, something I learned as I walked by mid morning and decided to give them a go. They make omelets and have bagels and such, but I decided to try their breakfast sandwich and choose rye bread and corned beef as my protein. You can interchange the bread and protein with what they carry. The sammi came with a side of potato salad and a pickle spear.( ) The rye was lightly toasted and very good, and the scrambled eggs were fluffy and soft, but they could of used a little seasoning. The corned beef was abundant and tender.( ) What I liked about this breakfast sandwich was that they piled it on for $ 6 and some change.( ) and came with that side of potato salad. The potato salad was very good. It was creamy with a hint of sourness, well seasoned, and the potatoes were tender.( ) The pickle was typical but good. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned they carried smoked Sable fish, a species hard to get on the west coast.( ) I unable to purchase any because I was heading to the beach afterwords for the after noon, but I least I know where to find some. Service was pretty good, but not as refined as it probably should be. Nevertheless, I am a fan of that breakfast sandwich. Oh yes, and they carry Cholula!(

Nosh is a place that has the potential to be really, really good, but the one time I went it was kind of underwhelming. Not bad, but not as good as I was hoping for. I ordered the pastrami on rye with mustard. How could I not? It looked marvelous but the taste just didn’t match up, like at all. It tasted almost lean even though it was the regular, full-fat pastrami. I ate it, it was good for what it was, but I was expecting to be blown away and that just didn’t happen. The noise level is gonna be a problem and the tables are also close together(or maybe the jerk behind us was just too fat or lazy to pull their chair in all the way). It’s got a pretty good location so I think it’ll do well and it’s still really new, but there is room for improvement.
