Fair food but horrible service! Was there on 4⁄05 at 6PM and was waited on by a bespectacled female kid with piercings who was so busy gabbing with one of her friends that she got everything wrong. We asked for the manager who was obviously off site and all she could indicate was that management wasn’t there! I will NEVER, NEVER patronize this place again! Avoid at all costs!

I tried this place on my way to the movie theater. The food isn’t as fresh as i expected, it was a tad salty and the chow mein was a bit greasy. I had an eggroll it was a bit bland and after eating my stomach was feeling weird for 2 days. It’s not the worse chinese food i’ve had but i can’t say it’s the best and i don’t think i’d be going back anytime soon!

Was in a hurry to get home, so I chose this place for convenience. Also read some good reviews on Unilocal so I was looking forward to some good chow. I eat Chinese food a lot, but this one was the worst I’ve had. Nothing fresh about it. The steamed rice was dry & lumpy and the food had no distinctive flavor. It all taste the same. Whether it was the orange chicken or the beef broccoli. I hate to give such a low rating, but my review is based on the food only. Service was good and the employee was friendly.

Under new management, Hong Kong Express is revitalized. The new owners are doing everything possible to appeal to customers. The food is fresh and tasty, they are now offering delivery and they are staying open later some nights of the week. The new owners are really nice people and working very hard. Stop by and give them some support. We need a good place like this nearby thriving.

My husband loved this place when he was in college. He talks about it all the time. I went to the same college and had never even heard of this place. We were back on campus one night for an event, and afterward we stopped here for dinner because I needed to know what all of his fuss was about. I don’t claim to be an expert on Chinese food, but it was good! We especially enjoyed the beef broccoli and the house chicken. The BBQ pork was also delicious. The people who work here are also super friendly. If this place was close to my house, we would be eating here all the time. We will definitely be eating here whenever we visit our alma mater!

Best Chinese food in town, I never go anywhere else, ever. I would even choose this over panda express! Friendly staff too, even their chop sticks are great(not the crappy break apart kind). Hmmm getting hungry for leftovers…

Try the house chicken. The owner(I think?) suggested I try the house chicken so I tried it. The wife(I think?) said I’ll be back for the house chicken. She’s right. I’ll be back. I never thought I’d come back to a Chinese fast food place for a certain dish. This is a first. I’ll be back for the house chicken.

I’m a big fan. It’s the best take-out chinese within La Mirada/Buena Park. They hook it up with legit portions and don’t charge extra for sweet/sour sauce and other extras(like some lame places). The staff there is really nice. I used to come here every other week for about 4 years. Definitely worth a try; compared to a sit-down restaurant, you’re gonna be a bit disappointed. But when you want legit Chinese take-out, this is the place to go. Also, it seems to be pretty clean. Minus one star because for a couple months they went down to a B(but if you know anything about the restaurant business, one minor screw up and you could be down there… you can also be pretty disgusting and get a B… so I can’t definitively say which it was in their case… but it does appear to be very tidy, and the dining area is always kept tidy/organized, and well maintained) PS – Get the Family special :4 eggrolls, 42-item combos, soup for like $ 21 bucks

After years of driving past I finally tried this place. It is prominently located on the end of a strip mall and see it every time I drive by. So we go in and it is very spacious and well lit, there are no customers to be found. One lady, possibly the owner behind the counter. Selections were limited very basic Chinese food and didn’t look the freshest. But I was in the mood for some Chinese so we tried it anyway. The food was acceptable at best. We have been to other HKE locations and the food was much worse quality and quantity than the others. I normally would give it a 3 star rating, but about 2 weeks after this visit I wanted Chinese again, and rather than driving to Cypress for our favourite HKE experience at 8:30 in the evening we just went up the street to the local La Mirada HKE. When we got there we were shocked, they were closed, the hours sign on the door said they should be open til 9, but the were closed… not just closed, but gone closed, everything cleaned up, lights off, doors locked, nobody home closed. Closed and gone at 8:35ish when they are supposed to be open til 9. Sorry LMHKE… we will not be back. We drove to the Cypress HKE, got there a little after 9 and they were still open(also list 9 as closing time) selling off the remaining food. Which to me makes sense, why throw everything away when there are people who will buy it? Besides how hard it is to «stay open» while you are cleaning the kitchen and sell off the remaining food.

Its not bad. Like what sonia said the pepper chicken was really good remarkably fresh for something on the heating tray. I use to live in china town and I know my take out. So far this is one of the better ones in the area that’s why its worth a review.
