I got a small box since my husband is not a fan but my son and I enjoyed them.
Not something I would go out of my way to have again, but they were fresh and still warm and the taste so unique, I can see how it is something one would crave to have again.

Came to this place with my mom. It was a great find inside the market. The inside was spacious as it is shared with a lot of different eat-​ins. The «hodos» are a great comfort food and the smoothies were also made with great frosty precision. The person who took my order was a male with dark-​ish skin and was very quick and timely at taking my order and making sure i got it. He was friendly and made the experience great for both my mom and me. Thanks cocohodo!

I’ve always liked hodo gwaja since I was a little lad. And when I first tried Cocohodo, man it was like the best I’ve ever tasted. But I don’t want to drive all the way over to Beach Blvd. whenever i crave for some warm pantries. So when this place opened up, I couldn’t be happier. Sorry for the other hodo pastry shop it replaced, but I’m glad that these guys are here instead. Now that it’s literally within a block where I live, I’m a regular costumer. There’s nothing like eating fresh out of the oven (or should i say walnut molds) hodo gwajas and a cup of tea. I usually eat way more than I should. And I’m always satisfied.

I got the small box of Walnut balls and a Mango Smoothie (I really was a iced milk tea but was told bits not available because they are still sampling it whatever that means). The young lady that helped me was very nice and well composed despite the location being very busy. The mango smoothie was good, I also liked the pastry If you like black bean pastries this place is awesome.

So this place sells these walnut and red bean ball stuff and it tastes really good. Though they kind of look like brains. It’s a small corner of the supermarket so it’s easy to miss

Went here for some dessert and it was well worth it. First I tried the Walnut (hodo) ball, which was very good. Inside of it has red bean paste and walnut and it was inclosed in a ball like shape bread. Ordered Very berry smoothie and it was refreshing. The owner was very nice to us and gave us free shaved ice when I mentioned that I love Korean food.
The price was affordable and their Walnut balls was delicious. Service was fast and the owner knows his stuff. I’m definitely coming back here for dessert.

This store is a really nice café to study or to just hang out. I liked their mocha Frappuccino it was a nice combo of bitter and sweet. I thought the patting sys (shaved ice desserts) were really good but thats only cut I really love the sweet red bean. Good for sweet tooth. They have comfortable chairs too! ^^

I thought the hodogwajas from the Korean market were good and decent, but how I was WRONG. These little balls of joy go great alone and even more better the next morning, microwaved at around 12 seconds, with a cup of coffee. One thing i like about these hodogwajas is that they are not afraid to put a lot of red bean filling and walnuts in them. I noticed the market ones, and the hodogwaja store that was here before, put little filling and little walnut and too much batter.
This place’s service is great. They will not hold back on samples and you feel like you just took advantage of them as you leave with 3 extra hodogwajas and a cup of coffee (also free, but was promotional). They will also greet you nicely and not rush you. And after you order their guy in the back will already have your order ready by the time you pay.

Awesome walnut pastry balls of goodness~ They could have had a better bread to red bean paste ratio tho… too much red bean! They give out a bunch of free samples and the customer service is pretty good. The two bingsoos [shaved ice] berry bingsoo & coco bingsoo was good but it had too much red bean again … this place loves their red bean =.= Overall a satisfying experience… would go again!

Cocohodo, located inside Super 1 Mart in La Palma, serving coffee, tea, smoothies & their most famous & beloved item, hodo gwaja. Hodo gwaja are referred to as walnut pastries, but I call them balls! Hey, it’s more fun! Pastries? Naw! Balls! Balls! Balls! ;p
For a gringo like me, the way I can describe hodo gwaja to you is it’s a cross between buchi (sesame balls) & mochi. Sweet red bean paste, surrounded by a walnut shell with all of that covered in dough. Not too sweet. Just right, with one not being enough. Or two. Or three. Best eaten warm!
Cocohodo is not stingy with the free samples. We got a few from the worker by the front, then decided to go for a bag of 9 godo gwaja/​$ 3.75. After polishing off a few, we left to shop at Super 1 Mart, pickup up a few more samples. With grocery shopping finished, we picked up yet a few more samples before exiting. That’s how you do it, baby! ;p
Seating is shared with Man Doo Express, a dumpling restaurant that I plan on trying sometime. Service was great! The smiling employees were friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see new customers, as it was slow.
Parking is in the Super 1 Mart lot.

I believe the owner of this Cocohodo store is the same as that of the Buena Park location. Currently, there isn’t any competition for the Cocohodo chain. The lone rival was Charm Hodo Walnut Pastry and their only store just closed. This smart proprietor bought that location inside the Super 1 Mart in La Palma. I’m sure it was an easy transition.
WHY? Because, I have to admit that Charm Hodo Walnut Pastry’s version of the Hodo Gwaja wasn’t very good at all. To be brutally honest, it was a lackluster version, and really fell short of Cocohodo’s rendition.
Hodo Gwaja is a small Korean pastry that contains a mixture of walnut, red bean paste, and dough molded into a walnut shape. They’re fantastic when fresh and warm and goes great with any hot beverage. I can get emotional just talking about them so don’t get me started, OK?
As a matter of fact, the Cocohodo store is more like a café, which features not just Hodo Gwaja, but a variety of coffees, lattes, teas — both warm and cold. They also have shaved ice, smoothies, and ice cream. The Buena Park location carries organic mochi (limited time) and virgin mojitos. If you’re still somewhat skeptical about the Hodo Gwaja itself, then visit any location and ask for a FREE sample. What have you got to lose?
After a few years, the prices for Hodo Gwaja have finally gone up. It’s still cheaper to buy them in bags, rather than boxes. Although, the boxes make great gifts for parties and of course the presentation is much more pleasing to the eye.

Accepted at most locations, you earn points for every dollar you spend, which results in more treats back to you. Even though this La Palma location hasn’t had the chance to setup the card system, the worker was kind enough to sign my receipt so that the Buena Park location can add the credit to my card. SWEET! Cocohodo Café, situated inside the small and cozy food court in Super 1 Hannam Market, offers «hodo gwaja» at its very finest. Located to the left of the market and sharing around 10 or so tables with Man Doo Rang Express, Cocohodo recently opened this past Saturday and overtook the area that used to be Charm Hodo… good riddance!
Typically a winter-​time snack in Korea to thaw your frozen hands but enjoyed all year round now, «hodo gwaja» are golden walnut-​shaped pastries filled with sweet red bean paste and, exclusive to Cocohodo, a large walnut as well! Although you can purchase «hodo gwaja» at most Korean bakeries, they’re very standard, processed, and dry. Cocohodo, on the other hand, offers you premium walnut pastries at very reasonable prices and sets the gold standard for «hodo gwaja»… and trust me, I’ve tried a lot! In fact, ask any ajumma or ajusshi and they’ll agree that Cocohodo is synonymous with «hodo gwaja» in the Korean community!

But sampler beware — before my sample, I was going to buy one large bag; after my sample, I asked for two large bags AND a small bag… they’re sooooo good, sooooo addicting, and perfect for sharing!
Also, true to the «Café» in their name and as listed above, Cocohodo offers combos of their «hodo gwaja» and coffee in addition to various hot and iced drinks and different desserts. The café is clean and modern (think IKEA style black chairs and tables) and a definite upgrade from Boba Loca in the same plaza that’s been overrun by teens, tweens, and graffiti-​ed furniture. Order a combo, grab a seat that faces the café, and you’ll even forget that you’re in a market food court for a hot «hodo gwaja» second! Perfect for catching up with a friend or simply enjoying a treat if you’re in the area. Speaking of, I’m so glad Cocohodo is finally open because I would intentionally make the 15 minute drive to the original Fullerton location to satisfy my «hodo gwaja» cravings.
PS: The «hodo gwaja» are baked fresh daily and served PIPING hot in their own individual paper wrappers such that the steam emitted can dampen the wrappers a little.
PPS: No, I don’t work for Cocohodo or know anyone who does. I just happen to have an insatiable sweet tooth, a slight coffee addiction, and an affinity for cute cafes… and get really excited when I find a place that satisfies all three!
