superb service!!! wow. we had no idea this place existed. we visit la quinta a few times a year and decided to stop in for a quick drink and ended up ordering happy hour, drinks, then dinner. they had a piano artist playing that night who played oldies and was upbeat(we requested two songs and included a tip but we only heard shout outs for it and one verse for each, bummer). very attentive staff, fun hostess and good food. quality food actually. small, intimate and surprisingly a big hit in the city. this place exceeded our expectations and offered more! reservations are recommended and valet parking is available at nights(not sure if its every night).

What an icon in la quinta. Great old school feel to it. Live music every night. Bill baker can really entertain. Happy hour is great but they are known for their dinners. Come later for dinner and you never know who will get up and sing, any number of old school jazz to celebrities. Bob Cunard runs a top notch joint.

It was my first time eating here and I was excited to take my future mother in law to a place that I had heard good things about. The atmosphere was nice and service was ok but the quality of the food was underwhelming for the price. Wish it would have lived up to its reputation. Maybe it was just one if those off nights but I don’t see myself returning.

This is a great old school dining spot where servers have worked for decades. There is a very intimate little bar with a piano player who knows every Sinatra song. The menu is very much American comfort foods, the portions are generous, and prices are not terribly high. This is a favorite with the affluent golfing, country club crowd, especially busy during the winter season. Go early. This crowd gets up early to hit the links and are not late night diners! Its a Palm Springs kind of experience!

Lively bar with their very own«lounge lizard» singer who was actually quite enjoyable, even if a bit cliché. The food was outstanding. Our party had the Filet Mignon, Chicken Piccata and Salmon, and everyone was very pleased. Service was very prompt and pleasant. Would definitely go back!

Had dinner reservations at 7 on a Friday night; bar was lively with Bill Baker and friends as entertainment. Long wait for drinks, food order, salads, and food. Was 8:45 by the time our food arrived. Saw a clown while we were waiting which was a bit odd. Food eventually showed up and was really good. The server mentioned they were short 2 servers; which was painfully obvious. Although it was a long wait, the food was worth it; will try again during the week.

Great place! Food and the service was excellent! Drinks were stiff and $ 5 during happy hour, food is a little pricey but very good. Love the décor and vibe, owner was at the bar greeting everyone with a talented piano player to entertain.

Loved this restaurant from the minute we had valet park our car. Very friendly and we were well taken care of. We will return again. Food was great and the atmosphere is like an old time meeting place. You’d expect the rat pack to walk thru the door.

Had dinner at Cunard’s Sandbar and ate in the bar. The food was wonderful and we enjoyed fabulous live music while we relaxed, enjoying our meal. The service was fabulous– the wait staff is very attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening. The food was great, the ambiance(the perfect desert vibe) and the music added to make the night a definite«do over.»

Think 1960’s or 1970’s desert, from décor to personal and friendly service and menu. Went here for dinner on a guy’s golf trip and it was perfect. They are evidently known for panko crusted sole, I had the fried chicken. Perfectly fried, crunchy skin, most meat. For dessert the best peach cobbler I have ever had, delicious sweet visit dough topping, delicious fruit. Friends had the blueberry cobbler, equally delicious. Be warned the covers are made in large tureens! If you want to go back to when service was paramount and chain menus were not yet post of the dining landscape go to The Sand Bar.

What a delightful evening! It had been 25 years since we had enjoyed a Cunards dinner. Nostalgically, the menu hadn’t changed much if at all. Even the staff seemed the same, completely charming. If you want a true Palm Springs area experience, this is the place. Don’t expect haute cuisine, but order something comfortable, enjoy the yummy included salad and save room for the Toll House pie. In another 25 years, may you return and reminisce as we did.

Food is always top notch! Seems like every time I come here it’s either a steady crowd or packed. Live music from a solo piano/guitar is who could be Neil Diamonds voice double. You can tell the staff have been at this awhile & care about their costumers and the overall experience. I make it here about once every two weeks and am never disappointed.

A group of 8 of us had dinner at the Sandbar last weekend… and it was wonderful! Don’t let the somewhat dated décor get in the way of a visit to this delicious restaurant. Owner, Bob, and his daughter, Mickele, welcome everyone and make sure the place is running perfectly. Most of the wait staff has been there«forever» so they all help each other out and are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items, etc. Our table LOVED the stuffed charred chiles as an appetizer as well as the deviled eggs… which we were fighting over! Entrees had by our group included the canneloni(amazing…rich…decadent), the eggplant parmesan(tender, tasty), the new york steak(perfectly seasoned and cooked), the shrimp scampi(a garlic lover’s delight) and the short ribs(which were tender and delicious as well). The Sandbar has live entertainment every night, and the tables in the bar area definitely join in with the singing, sometimes dancing, etc. All in all a delightful evening!

Pass on the menu, but 5* stars for the bar, entertainment, staff & local color. Definitely a 50+ bar, but what a great ambience & fun time as long as u r over 21. If u r looking for kitsch, camp, comedy & a cocktail, u can get it all in one cozy room here. Does it get better than that? Once they bring the menu into the new millennium we can enjoy dinner too, but don’t miss the party in the meantime. It’s a hoot.

Laura and Allisdair left Martha’s Vineyard for the winter. They stayed in La Quinta, literally right behind Cunard’s Sandbar. They invited Jeff and I for dinner. I’m glad we made the drive. It is much smaller than I expected, but I didn’t really feel all that crowded, despite the intimate setting. We had a 6:30 reservation and our table wasn’t quite ready, so I sat outside at the bar facing the parking lot. I chatted a bit with the valet. He recommended the pasta dishes. The hostess offered us a table on the quieter side of the restaurant, but we held out for the side with the piano and the bar. Jeff ordered the pork milanesa(I’m spelling it the Mexican way because I can’t remember how the Italians spell it.) It was the biggest piece of pork I have ever seen. Perfectly tender, delicious sauce on it. It was a ridiculously big plate. We ordered a side of spinach for the table. Very well seasoned and cooked. Allisdair asked for the Cuban steak. He and Laura were pleasantly surprised at the flavors, especially the garlic. I would recommend he try that at Versailles in Los Angeles. He ate it all, so I’m assuming he liked it. Laura asked for the canneloni. It came with two sauces, one red, one white. She only ate one because she wanted to save room for the crème brûlée.(We didn’t finish it. The custard didn’t look quite right, but everyone said the crust was delicious.) I asked for the fried chicken. It was perfectly cooked, but it needed some salt. I like the vegetables that came with my meal, but it could have used something green.(It had shredded carrot, corn and yellow squash.) The mashed potatoes were thick, I think they had been sitting for a while, but the chicken gravy was perfect. Our servers were quite helpful, including offering suggestions and keeping him properly hydrated. I was a little worried about the piano player. We were seated right at the edge of the piano. He played well and sang even better. At one point, he asked if we had requests. When we arrived and were waiting for out table, we were outside while Jeff was at the bar. He didn’t know that he was sitting next to the owner. He had asked for recommendations from the guy, not knowing who he was. It was funny but the kind of thing that wouldn’t surprise me at this location. There were quite a few blue hairs, but that doesn’t bother me at all. There were several TVs on, showing tennis and golf. There was a crowd of young people at the bar, when we were about to leave. I wouldn’t mind trying this place again, but it is a trek from Palm Springs.
