Six of my friends and I visited Maui and came here and had amazing service. Everyone was so nice and friendly. We left with full tummies, new friends and great recommendations of what we should do during our trip.

Great food and great service! My friends and I all enjoyed different dishes and only had positive things to say about each. The drinks were also amazing and nice and strong. Definitely recommend checking this place out and I will for sure be coming back next time I’m in town!

My friends and I visited Maui for the first time and vacationed for over a week. We were going out to eat for almost every meal every day trying different restaurants all over Maui. This place was the absolute BEST. We all ordered different items on the menu and tried a bit of everything. I had the chicken sandwhich with the lava flow and it was by far the best meal I had on the island! Every entrée was amazing and the service was great too. I highly recommend going to Down The Hatch if you’re passing through Lahaina!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago & let me tell you it is definitely one of our new favorite places to eat! There really isn’t anything to complain about, they have awesome customer service, reasonable priced meals and MERMAIDFRIES! Their menu has a variety of salads, sandwiches/burgers(that include fries) and awesome entrees. If you haven’t tried eating here you’re missing out! Add this to your bucket list when you’re finding somewhere reasonable to eat. Also, who can pass on Maui’s longest happy hour?! Check them out! You won’t regret it :)

6−19−16 Went to Down the Hatch on 6−18−16. Everything was QUALITY. First we ordered the Mermaid Fries which were delicious. They came with ranch, cheese, and bacon. Their fries were also seasoned well with Cajun. Next I ordered the lava lava shrimp tacos with fries. I enjoy spicy food so the lava lava shrimp was delicious! It also had mango salsa on top which was perfectly made. Next, my daughter had the Surf and Turf burger which is a burger with lava lava shrimp. Her expectations were met and she ended up not being able to finish it because it was so much food! My husband got the lobster and crab grilled cheese sandwich. We all agreed that was the best one out of the entire lunch! It was quite filling too so we all shared bits and pieces. The pricing was perfect and the waiter was very nice to us. The drinks were also delicious! Definitely will be coming back next time!

Me and my girlfriend came in at around 10pm walked around a bit looking at the menu, one of the bartenders said to order and sit down but didn’t say anything about if there was table service for drinks. So we ordered the chicken & waffles and DTH Cheeseburger with the counter girl. We assumed that there was table service for drinks because there was one bartender going around tables and and asking them if they wanted something to drink. After a while of the bartender getting other tables drinks and walking past our table we decided to flag him down. There was only two bartenders and the food counter girl. And this is on a Saturday night at 10pm, with people starting to pile in. We figured the bartender wasn’t going to come back to the table so we just ended up going up to the bar and flagging him down for more drinks. 25 minutes later after ordering food, we started to get worried about our food but luckily it came out right as we were about to go ask about it. I’m emphasizing 25 minutes because we were ONLY table that ordered food and were the ONLY table that food came out to at that time. So we knew our ticket was the only ticket up there. So why did it take 25 minutes for two plates? I would understand if the kitchen is slammed but this was not the case. The chicken and waffles was really GOOD with the chef made to order our honey mustard(which shouldn’t be the case for the long wait) which was also amazing. The burger tasted just like a regular burger though, nothing special. My girlfriend and I work in the food industry, so after eating while watched how the whole place do their thing see what they do compared to how we do things at our jobs. And a couple things we noticed. On one of the televisions they had a surf channel and the other a documentary of OJ Simpsons murder case with gory pictures of the murder which I’m sure is not really what the patrons want to watch. We saw on two occasions two couples go and sit down and have water brought to them(I don’t think they were told there was no table service) And just watch the bartender like a hawk walk by them and give other tables their drinks then walk back to the bar. After two times the bartender did this then they stood up and walked out. Meanwhile two parties at the bar waited at least 10 – 20 minutes before the bartender even acknowledge them to get their drinks. I noticed that the only time the bartender was flagged down and talked by all these guests wanting to order drinks is when he would go to the register to print a check since it was right next to all the people standing. Counter girl who did the food, all she did was wipe down tables and bring out peoples food, I feel that she could have done a lot more for the patrons cause she really had nothing to do other than run two tables food which were 30 min apart but who knows it might not be in her job description. Overall the counter girl and the bartender was very nice even being bombarded with a full bar and clearly drowning. Some tips I suggest for this place is have a sign that says there is no table service and they must come to the bar to avoid the confusion because the bartender can’t let everyone know(if he does at all) It really looked short staffed on a Saturday night, All the tables with empty glasses and two bartenders, one doing the left side bar and the other one doing the right side bar and the tables outside. At least maybe have another bartender to look after tables or even have food counter girl get drink orders to help the drowning bartenders. The money that they would make with happy patrons and repeat guest would clearly offset the amount to pay another person to be there. There were not a lot of people that had happy faces tonight. With this high of a rating(4.5 stars), I expected way better and who knows maybe it was a bad night. Side note, Saturday nights were flip coin night where you start a tab with the bartender and when you go close out($ 15 minimum tab, drinks only) they flip a coin and if you guess right your tab gets 50% off. So happy that I called it right which eased my mind about paying what I had to pay with the overall service.

I’ve been here three times now, and the food and service are consistently great! The only reason I don’t give it another star is the pricing — though on Maui, that’s tough to ding anyone for. This is a pricey island as far as food goes, compared to Oahu. Anyway, the food here was great! I love the ordering at the register and then waiting for your food — it comes out pretty quickly and allows you to seat yourself, people watch, and enjoy a drink while you wait. The bar offers several screens of sports-watching channels, as well as a huge drink menu. The food all comes with great sauces which compliment each dish perfectly. I wouldn’t change anything on the menu! Friendly, tasty, great environment. Right across the street from the Banyan tree and down a set of stairs below the sidewalk level. Look for the signs, and you can’t miss it!

Came here based on the reviews and they did not disapoint! The food was so good! I must not have read everything very carefully because I didn’t realize it was outdoors, but it’s not as hot as I thought it would be. And we got a boozy shaved ice from next door so we stayed very cool. Mermaid fries were awesome, and the fish tacos(grilled) we some of the best I’ve had!

Lava Lava shrimp and mermaid fries are a go. Anything with Lava Lava or mermaid in the name is a winner. The only complaint from my party was too much bacon on the salad. Tonight they just launched adult shaved ice and it’s bomb. It’s Friday night in Lahaina, I’m out!

We ordered 3 things for lunch at Down the hatch, the lava shrimp, the lobster Mac and cheese and mahi mahi tacos. All the food tasted fantastic, the shrimp was crispy and warm, the lobster Mac and cheese was really hot with toasted bread and the tacos came with a full piece of grilled mahi mahi in each taco. The only complaint was the food took a while to come despite it being quite quiet.

We chose this place because it had 4 stars. Parking was no fun. Got in and ordered. The host helped us seat our large party. When our food arrived I immediately jumped in the lava shrimp. Man was it good. Then I made it to the fries and once I got to the salad, I was ready to go back to the shrimp. Btwn the fries and shrimp I was getting full and slowly with each bite the meal was getting more and more salty. So I didn’t finish anything but the shrimp although my husband helped. $ 35 later I was full. and happy. Nice spot. We left before the Dj but I would come back later to experience the bar without kids. Lol

Oh man. If you are in town and looking for a place to eat, please please please, come here!!! so very worth the trek even if you are out of the area(northern, eastern, etc). Lava lava shrimp: this was noted best seller but its a regular popcorn shrimp and it wasn’t anything phenomenal. however, it was good and flavorful. just not sure why its«best seller» because: Lobster grilled cheese. oh man. they are generous with their lobster pieces, and the toast was perfectly toasted to perfection. Crispy with ooey-goodness in the inside. side of fries were thin and super crispy as well. This, is definitely a MUST order. Grilled fish salad: I opted without the wasabi alioli as I don’t like wasabi. SO. GOOD. the seared ahi tuna had a delicious smokey flavor, I’m drooling as I type! color was perfect with chopped tomato, bell peppers(reds), and mangos(yellow) over a heap of spinach for greens! If you are a fan of vinaigrette dressing, even better! it was so delicious. will 110% recommend to anyone in the area.

Excellent place!!! Great music and even better food. Don’t pass this place it’s hard to see from Front street so pay attention when you see The Wharf cinema signs. Service was excellent and the prices are pretty good for Maui. We had the Local Style Plate lunch and the Grilled Fish Salad both were fantastic and the portions were big. It was great sitting outside and enjoying wonderful seafood. Don’t miss the Lava Lava Shrimp we wish we had ordered it, saw several pass the table!

Casual take out sort of restaurant. Service was minimal however young lady working the counter was nice, she came around to check up on customers. Food was alright. I got appetizer sampler and DTH burger. Burger was juicy and MASSIVE but it tasted like any regular burger. No special sauce or seasoning to it. As for the appetizers, they have small popcorn shrimp coated in a spicy sauce. It was good but after a few it gets old. There was calamari, and pork quesadilla which were meh. No real WOW factors about them. Not too impressed, great for late night dining and cruising after work.

Surprisingly terrific. We were starving, everything else looked like Don Hoe meets Ruby Tuesdays, so we popped into DTH, A Place To Eat Fish. And we did. Fish Tacos were really good. Nice kick. Girlfriend have the macadamia Mahi which was also pretty solid. Nice locals, great drinks(try the Personal Day — you’ll need one after two of them), and the bartender, Jeremy, was a gentleman who knew how to make a great drink(refer to the previous Personal Day comment). When you’re in Lahaina, DTH is a must stop when you’re hungry and thirsty.

3.5 stars but rounding up. Food was good but not rushing back. Vibe is super casual. Drinks are STRONG. Service is friendly but probably stoned. Came on a Monday night and the place was not too busy but not empty. Calamari strips — good flavor and cooked perfectly — not chewy. Sauces were different but very very tasty. Spicy chili sauce was balanced by the tangy tartar sauce. Coconut shrimp — nice big shrimp. Cooked perfectly. Awesome flavor — mango pico complements the savory sweet glaze. Would get again. Mahi Mahi tacos — just ok; Nothing memorable but solid. Dark and stormy — strong and made with very good ginger beer. Served in a copper. No table service. Order at the counter and sit at one of the tables. Casual local vibe in a cute shopping center area. Pay to park down the street.

The food here truly is great! A little bit of everything for everyone and the flavors are delicious. Lava lava shrimp is a generous portion, the grilled cheese chicken sandwich was gooey and yummy and big. The chicken and waffles had all the right flavors in all the right places with a delicious piece of fried chicken breast on top! The only thing about this place is how it’s set up that threw me off. You order at the little window and they bring the food out to you. There is also a bar right there that is separate counter from where you order food, but the same place. So if you want food and drinks(and aren’t lucky enough to get a seat at the actual bar), you have to walk up to the bar anytime you want a drink. I understand it’s aloha time and that’s great — but the owner said they are trying to find ways of cutting labor costs by doing it this way. My opinion — if you had even just one waiter dedicated to the dining area, you’d make a lot more money in alcohol sales and possibly food as the customers would be more apt to order more instead of having to get up and go wait in line every time they wanted another drink. Just a suggestion though! :) Great place though with hearty down home food!

This place was merely average and too overhyped by its current 4.5star rating. The most interesting dish was their Lobster/Crab Stuffed Grilled Cheese, but almost all of their menu items were deep fried to some extent. They also used the same«spicy mayo type» sauce on everything: fries, sandwiches, quesadillas, tacos… everything! Their staff was friendly though. One of the only late night spots on the island, so it’d be a good watering hole, but not a place I’d return for food.

Open air restaurant just below street level in downtown Lahaina just across from the Banya tree serving a bunch of items including salads, fish and tacos. The food is surprisingly delicious given the low-key vibe of the place. You feel like you are sitting in a mall food court as you are surrounded by shops in an open-air atrium like space. They don’t have a ton of tables but were easily able to accommodate our group of 9 adults. You can make reservations, in fact they showed up on Open Table but having been there, I’m not sure that’s all that necessary. We showed up early(5:30) for a 6:15 reservation and sat down right away after the host pushed some tables together. You place your orders up at the counter and they bring you the food. In our case, we started with drinks and some chips and salsa then because of our group size, the counterman came and took our order at the table to make it easier for us(nice). I had the macadamia crusted Mahi with a pineapple relish(very good), a couple in the group enjoyed the crab/lobster grilled cheese which came with the best thin, crispy French fries, a couple ordered the salad with grilled chicken, one had the baja fish tacos(a bit spicy — but that’s the sauce mainly). Overall we were pleased with the food and drinks. Our bill was around $ 300 which wasn’t two bad — everyone had a couple of drinks. Recommended.

Please don’t go by it’s unassuming location in the middle of a building. This place is definitely worth coming. We were looking for a chill place to get some drinks and food. Found this place on Unilocal and gave it a try. I am glad we came here. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. They have a bar and few tables. They definitely have very good happy hour specials. Tried the pina coladas and wife had a mango based drink which she till date dreams about, yes it was that good. Ordered the platter with lava shrimps, quesadillas, calamari. The food was just plain delicious, those shrimps are just to die for. Calamari and quesadillas were awesome too. Staff is über chill and cool. A bunch of great guys running the establishment. If you guys expand in future please consider NYC :) ** They also have jenga so help ourself balancing those blocks while drinking!
