The food was very good, I had the Monchongo, never had it before, very friendly people, the environment is also very good, a little hot inside but we sat at an outside table and the nice breeze from the ocean made it cooler. It was dark but I imagine a day lunch or early dinner would be very beautiful. Great place, great food, friendly servers.

We came here a few years ago, and then again last year. The mixed reviews I think are accurate. The chef here is very good and very creative. We loved the food the first time, which we believe to have been cooked by the chef/owner, who was in chef-wear when he came to our table to ask us how we were enjoying everything. He went to several tables and then sat down with one. The second time we went, the food was only okay and the waiter seemed high. I think this is a great restaurant, great concept, awesome chef… But LAHAINA seems to suffer from a very transient work force of young partiers who don’t really give a shit. We’ve seen it at several restaurants and businesses in Lahaina… To listen to this waiter(surprisingly frank) tell us how much he hates Maui and can’t wait to move back to the mainland was depressing. We love Lahaina so much, it’s a shame.

Worst experience I’ve ever had. Dined around 8pm in a nearly empty restaurant, drank a beer while keeping waiting 45 minutes for an appetizer then Decided to leave. Everyone seemed like they were on drugs. Seriously.

Amazing service, great«Derby Downer» drink, and fantastic place to watch the sunset with live music!

Only getting two stars and not one because the view was really nice. Slow service, mahi tasted like it was frozen, rice was not cooked, and prices way too high.

Ahi nachos were decent but the chips were stale. Everything was heavily sauced, even the salad. There were maybe four other patrons at 8pm on a Friday night. Sad place, ditzy waitress, live music was horribly loud.

Don’t know why this has a 4 star rating but the food is subpar. The Ahi nachos is decent and probably the only thing worth getting. We had the lobster roll which didn’t taste like lobster and was really soggy. The steak from surf and tuff was tasteless but the dish costs $ 38. Shrimp was nothing spectacular either. The view from the balcony is nice and waiter was extra nice so that’s why this place gets 2 star instead of one. After looking at the 5 star reviews for this place more carefully, most are from people who have no friends and thus are likely fake reviews.

Overpriced food, ill-informed waitress, and food not like it was described! We got the burger, kale salad and one ice tea and it was about $ 50(which wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for below). The burger came out plain, with absolutely nothing on it(just the patty and bun) even though it said bacon and mushrooms etc… And the amount of fries given were smaller than a handful. When we told the waitress about the missing toppings she acted as though this is how the burger came but she’d talk to the chef. The kale salad was also a disappointment, as all the«dressing»(very little flavor and very little of it in general) was clumped up in the middle of the salad under the hundred unripe tomatoes and grapefruit. Pretty sure there were suppose to be pine nuts or something on it also but didn’t want to complain again. The restaurant itself only had 2 other customers(at 6pm on a Wednesday night) and it seemed as though they were closing with the fact that our meal seemed like it was thrown together with whatever was left in the kitchen. The two stars essentially comes from the nice ambiance…

3 cold meals and it took 45 min for food to Come out. Great view of Ocean. They comp’d two Of the steaks however we still were completely dissatisfied. We have been on the island for 10 days and haven’t had one bad meal yet. Suggest Mala ocean grill on front street.

Unfortunately over the last month this place is going under. I hope changes are made soon because at one time we really did enjoy the happy hour at this establishment. But business has definitely gone downhill

We went here a few years ago and it was so delish, so naturally we wanted to go back, but things weren’t as good… Nice live music, but way too loud!!! Service was below average… Probably because we could never speak to our waiter, because we couldn’t communicate over the music. He was not attentive and not friendly. Food didn’t have much flavor and I had the macadamia nut encrusted mahi. Which in my opinion you can never go wrong with. Too bad because we were so looking forward to experience it again!

We were wary about dining here after seeing how varied the reviews were, which seem to be evenly distributed between«hit» and«miss». In the end, we decided to take a chance anyway. If you are seated on the balcony, you’re in for a treat because of the great view of the ocean it offers. However, it appears that the balcony seats only accommodate dining parties of two. My family was seated inside but close enough to the balcony that we still had a view, although it would have been awkward to look out because of the couple seated right next to us. Lol The restaurant itself is very nice and the service is A+. We were greeted downstairs by a friendly Asian girl who walked us upstairs and seated us. Michael, our server, was very helpful and had good timing. There isn’t a lot to choose from on the menu and I got the impression that you couldn’t customize either. For example, their prime rib of beef comes served with wasabi mashed potatoes. We asked if it was possible to get regular mashed potatoes instead but were told that it wasn’t possible – something about it being pre-made that way.(That isn’t what was said verbatim.) We ended up ordering the sugar cane glazed Duroc pork chop, chin-choy short ribs, and a keiki hamburger slider meal for our daughter. The pork chop and short ribs were swimming in sauce and the portion sizes were just OK but perhaps a little small for nearly $ 40. They weren’t kidding when they said«hamburger slider» for the kid’s meal, because it is literally one slider with a serving of fries. If your child is older than the age of five or is a healthy eater, I wouldn’t suggest ordering off the children’s menu. When we paid, I found out they offer a 20% Kama’aina discount. So be sure to bring your Hawaii ID with you when you dine here! :) Overall, eating here was a neat experience and I’m glad that we tried it but it is unlikely that we will return. My four star rating is based on the service, ambiance, and overall experience – the food leaves something to be desired.

Though there were limited vegetarian options, we were not disappointed. The bok choy entrée was mind-bendingly good. You read that right. Bok choy. Utterly delcious. Succulent, luscious, spicy. See picture. The beet and kula greens salad was outstanding too. You don’t necessarily have to serve great food when you’re serving a view of a gorgeous Maui sunset, but these cats do.

Very impressed with the view — sadly disappointed in the food! :( After seeing such great reviews we tried this place out — the pictures all looked really good. We got there around 6 and the place was empty excepted for one other table. We were sat right on the balcony to watch the sunset and Front street below. Chairs were comfy, table was nice, etc. We started off with a couple drinks, I had the coconut margarita. It was good — something different! We then got the pork belly that was really really lame. Kind of tough, tasted like pork and beans(yes I know it’s pork, but shouldn’t taste like it’s out of a can mixed with beans). The bread was stale and crumbled to little pieces when you but into it. The shrimp appetizer was ok — probably the best thing we had there. Our waiter was a really nice guy so we decided to test it out a little more hoping the entrees would be better. Should have saved out money. Short rib was too dry for me resulting in the lack of flavors from the juices to make it tasty. The chicken entrée was raw inside, had to take it back and be cooked more. They said sorry but still — little too scary with raw chicken! Overall — neat restaurant but for the $ 160 dinner, just the little view wasn’t worth it.

Right off of Front Street in Lahaina, walk up the stairs where the metal pig greets you. The view is amazing, the food is good, and the service is ok. To be fare, we ate lunch here ON Christmas Day, so that could be a legitimate excuse. The décor is fun, which is always important to me. We would love to go back at sunset and really enjoy the sights. They offer lots of fresh fish menu items and local beers to enjoy. There’s usually live music right across the street at night and I’m sure you could hear it from here too. There’s a large bar top, so it might be good to just hang out and have some night caps!

The Billabong Surf shop next door recommended this spot. This is a Hidden Gem. It’s upstairs to the art gallery. Our Server Russell took great care of us! Very friendly, great service, and makes some great drinks. He even explains how the drinks are made. The home made Mai Tai was my favorite. Happy hour prices are great. We really enjoyed this quiet, stylish, casual place. The food was awesome! Side note, the chef is famous and used to cook for the President. Russell recommended that we come back for dinner and enjoy the amazing Sunset. Beautiful view from the balcony and the meal was amazing. Had the Lobster Rossotto. The Poke is also delicious. I’m writing because more people should know about this special place. A hidden Gem.

I hung out here for a few hours while on front street in Lahaina. The bartender has an awesome personality which kept me there longer than expected. The calamari was delicious, definitely worth a try, it is seasoned so well you will forget about a dipping sauce(BTW. .. I love dipping sauces). The drinks are pretty good, a lot of options. I only sat at the bar, however the menu looked great. Quiet the entire time, great view of the water, great service, minor gnat problem which may due to location and cute setup.

We stopped here for lunch on a friday. It was not very busy when we got there but did have 4 or 5 more tables fill up when while we were eating. The service was quick, attentive and appropriate for lunch. The bread they brought out was masterful and warm when delivered to the table. Me and my wife both got the fish and chips. It was four generous pieces of Mahi Mahi handbreaded in a light breading. The breading and fish were excellent. The hand cut fries are very good too. They only have a siracha tartar sauce no «regular» tartar sauce. Not a big deal. They check was right at $ 40 for lunch for two which is a real deal in maui. I personally don’t pay much attention to reviews when the person writing the review has less then 10 reviews and most are negative. This place is fine.

My family thought I was a nut case when I booked a reservation here for dinner and arrived to find we were the only people in the entire restaurant at 7:00 in the evening. They were considering leaving but I told them I had seen the photos and reviews on Unilocal and we had to give it a try regardless of the empty interior. I will put in in all capitals incase you’re just skimming reviews like I sometimes do. DON’T LETTHELACKOFPATRONSBOTHERYOU… THEFOOD, SERVICEANDDRINKSAREAMAZING! THISPLACEIS A MUSTTRY! I felt so sad to see such a wonderful restaurant so empty. We truly had our best meal of the vacation at Sugar Cane Grill and I cannot recommend it enough. They do need to work on some sort of advertising to bring in more customers, and I can only help that my review will help bring at least one couple or family in because it truly was wonderful! We ordered the Misto Calamari, Edamame & Ahi Nachos as appetizers. The calamri was flavored like none I have ever had before. It almost had an asian salad dressing flare to it and it was increbdle. The Edammae was also covered in a delicious sauce and the portion size was gigantic! Finally, the Ahi Nachos were served on a bed of crisp wonton strips and the ahi was extremely fresh and again a very large portion. For our meals… I had the Steak cooked Medium Rare. I know, I know, who orders steak in Hawaii? Well I did it was was a great life choice! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and seasoned beautifully. I also tried the Burger & Fries which were outstanding! Truly a gourmet burger! Also, I MUST recommend the COCONUTMARGARITA! It was the best drink I had on my entire trip! Please do yourselves a favor and give this place a chance! It truly is the hidden gem of Maui.
