Mello’s Bar

Shaddy bar. Mainlanders STAY AWAY. You hear stories about coming to Hawaii and having a native be agreessive to you for being a mainlander, but I never experienced it till I came to this bar. I heard the girlfriend of the bouncers saying that her boyfriend was an MMA fighter and later the bouncer was was talking to my friend who was very drunk and needed a ride home. My friend was too drunk too understand that he needed to get in the car and the bouncer stopped me from trying to help my friend and told me in a threatening way to leave my friend alone. I was put in a really bad position because I was pretty sober, but i had to leave my extremely drunk friend at the bar because I was threatened by a trained fighter and employee of this bar. I still haven’t found my friend and I hope he gets home safe.

My husband, a friend, and I strolled over to Mello’s Bar after Hula Grill closed. Most restaurants close around 10pm in this part of Maui, so our waitress recommended Mello’s Bar, which is part of Paradise Grill.
They had a good selection of beer on tap, pool tables, and a DJ. Although it’s not the nicest bar, you will definitely have a good time here if you want to enjoy a late night out. We went on a Thursday night, and it wasn’t too busy. I think more people show up here on the weekends.

Being able to walk across the street to get to this bar was an amazing feat. The bar features a dj as well as pool tables. It’s a local bar and very casual.
If you order the food from here, it actually comes from upstairs from Paradise Grill and I must say, those wings are by far the best I’ve had in a while — they are a must try!

Tourists beware! This bar is a local hangout. Girls and guys alike are hassled by local guys. The cheaper drink prices attracts local guys who come to pick up tourist girls. If you are a guy, and talk to one of the girls, they will Jump you. Mob of 10 – 15 unprovoked local guys jumped 3 tourist guys kicking them in the head and punching them in the face. 3 tourists ended up w multiple head injuries, broken nose, stitches to face and black eyes swollen shut. 911 was called and police sent out but local police let locals go without questioning. This bar is not worth the risk!!!

We stayed at one of the resorts and were looking for a fun place to watch MNF without paying an arm and a leg for a meal. We noticed the restaurant on a walk and decided to try it out.
We started upstairs — it was pretty tame. Lots of tvs and super chill. As the game got going (they did have it on all the upstairs tvs) we heard some noise from downstairs and asked if we could move to be with a rowdier crowd. The staff was more than accommodating and we were quickly moved. The downstairs bar was pretty great. Reminded me of my favorite dive sports bars back home — they had lots of seating options (booths, tall tables, chairs and these awesome wingback chairs too). We really wanted to use the comfy wing back chairs so the waitress lets us create our own seating area (sweet!!).
More on the waitress (Emily) — she was AWESOME. The bar was full and from the look of it she kept everyone happy (there was other staff but she looked like she was working most of the tables herself). She was attentive and quick and seemed very genuine — not fake give me a nice tip nice. She had good food recommendations too — I love places that the waitresses/​waiters recommend menu items.
Food and deals! Holy moly! We walk in and they tell us the entire food menu is ½ from 4 – 5 pm?! Yes please! We ordered an array of apps and entrees and it was all tasty! The onion rings definitely were not frozen and the wings were a little small but you got a lot for the price. I had the Philly cheesesteak with homemade potato chips and it was a TON of food. My friend had the fish tacos and it too was a lot of food. We all drank beer which was well priced — between $ 3 and $ 5. I noticed they do breakfast too that also is 50% off from 7 am to 8 am so I might try for breakfast before we fly out tomorrow. I wish we would have found it at the beginning of the trip and not the end — we probably would have been there daily. For 3 apps, 2 entrees (with the upgraded sides) and 7 or 8 beers (we lost count hehe) it was only $ 52! I know where we will be going on our next Maui trip:).

Pretty decent food and the waitress in the bar downstairs, Sarah is awesome. Definitely knows how to make good drinks, is super funny and super nice

The only place to get a drink after 10 PM in a 5 mile radius.
They have pool tables and a DJ.
