Perfect dining experience. I was a little Leary as I have been to two Roys back home in Los Angeles and was never overly impressed. This one impressed right from the beginning. I had made a reservation and made a request that if possible to get a nice view. When they seated us we didn’t have a view. My wife said something and they found us a nice spot at the window, which was actually a little hot at that time of day so we went back to our original table. Within a minute or two the manager apologized to us(even though there wasn’t a need) and then sent us an awesome appetizer. For an appetizer we ordered hamachi with Serrano and roe. It was incredible. For dinner my wife had the Butterfish, and I had the filet with lobster. All were perfectly cooked and the presentation was«spot on». We ended with a soufflé(I didn’t realize but if you check in on Unilocal you get one for free), that was one of the best I’ve ever had. Our server was a pro and had insightful recommendations. The service was attentive, genuine and knowledgeable. The dining room sits over a golf course and had a great ambience. The wine list was very nice and there was a thoughtful beer selection. I was suprised to see that the beers on draft were only $ 4. Even if not going to dinner it would be a great place to enjoy and appetizer and a beer. We will be back! A special thank you to the manager who really added to the experience.

Pros: — Good atmosphere. — Polite servers. — Food is great. Cons: — Expensive. But if you are traveling to Maui for vacation, it doesn’t hurt to pay for the great experience.

Excellent family dinner with impeccable service! We came with a large group of eleven and all meals were fantastic. The kids meals were as yummy as the adult meals and had the kids eating their vegetables. Food was brought out for the kids the second we arrived and continued as three courses throughout the night. It kept them busy and helped them to stay seated. One couple celebrated an anniversary and received a custom dessert that was too good to share. The cocktails were delicious, food melted in your mouth and atmosphere perfect for our large group. Thanks for the memories

Excellent service by Mark! We went there on Memorial Day weekend and were thoroughly impressed. The food was excellent. We brought our 5 year old since they have a kids menu, and she loved it too! She got the ribs that came with mashed potatoes, veggies, fruits, and a quesadilla. Also an ice cream sandwich for dessert. Whoever came up with that menu was a genius. I got the meatloaf and my husband got a steak. Mark asked if my husband was military, and gave us a generous discount as well as free dessert! We really thought this place was great and enjoyed the entire dining experience. But after he surprised us with the discount and dessert, we were even more impressed. Thank you, Mark!

We had a great meal at Roy’s last night. I ordered a Kaanapali Point to drink, it was nicely balanced and refreshing. We ordered: Blackened Ahi app– excellent Misoyaki Butterfish-excellent Brussels and Cauliflower-yum Faroe Island Salmon-good, but some of the vegetables were woody and tough Hawaiian Ranchers Ribeye– cooked perfectly. We had a pretty poor experience here last October, this experience was nothing like our last. The service was excellent as was our meal. Great job

Went with my family the other day to enjoy a belated Mother’s Day dinner for my wife. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and got seated at a table with a view overlooking the golf course. Our waiter went over the daily specials and answered a couple of questions we had about various dishes. Within a blink, the bowl of Edamame arrived for us to enjoy. For appetizers we had the Ahi Poke Bowl, Ginger Chicken Gyoza and Szechuan Baby Back Pork Ribs. Each appetizer was delirious and perfectly prepared. The Ahi Poke was sitting inside of a nori(seaweed) bowl that was deep-fried in Tempura batter. Such awesome presentation. The Baby Back Ribs were so tender, the meat fell-off the bones and were«finger licking good». For our entrees, we enjoyed the Herb Garlic Grilled Mekajiki with Kauai Prawns, Macadamia Nut Crusted Mongchong, «Chinese Style» Jade Pesto Steamed Mongchong and the Hawaiian Ranchers Ribeye. Each meal was incredible and cooked to perfection. I always take note of the vibrant flavors when I’ve eaten here that makes the food so good. For dessert, we had the Melting Dark Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Ice Cream and the Macadamia Nut Tart. Two great ways to complete our meal. Lastly, the service was impeccable. The staff are very friendly, super attentive and take customer service to another level.

Roy’s is amazing place to eat even on Maui. A must dine while you are there. Has a great friendly, accommodating staff will meet your every dinning needs. I will always dine here when I am here on Maui.

We had dinner here our last night in Maui and we’re so glad we did. It’s located in Kaanapali close to all the resorts. We walked from our hotel and it took 10 minutes. The service was AMAZING. Everyone congratulated us because we were on our honeymoon. They gave us some delicious spiced edamame to start out with and we ordered potstickers and one of the sushi rolls to start out with. We liked the sushi roll so much that we cancelled our entrée and instead chose to order the other roll which turned out to be even better than the first. After our main meal we of course had to order the famous soufflé which is hands down the best dessert I’ve ever had. Such a great dinner. We will definitely go to Roy’s on every Hawaiian island we visit.

I have mixed reviews about Roy’s. For the price, I only think it was okay. The food itself was pretty good, but the atmosphere was lacking. The atmosphere was like any other golf course’s clubhouse, but with expensive food. Our server was knowledgable, but we could barely speak with him because it was so loud. I’d definitely recommend ordering the Dim Sum canoe. It was the group’s favorite item of the night, especially the poke and shrimp sticks. For dinner, I ordered the Classic Duo — which included the macadamia nut mahi mahi and the blackened ahi. I was not a big fan of the ahi, the fish itself was good, but I didn’t like the flavors. I did enjoy the macadamia nut mahi mahi. My boyfriend ordered the crab cakes and risotto side. I had a bite of his food, and in my opinion the crab cakes had too much breading and the risotto was lacking salt or any other seasoning. I also tried bites of the seafood collection and surf and turf — both dishes were done very well. For dessert, we got the free chocolate soufflé through Unilocal!I was shocked that it wasn’t only 1 per table; we were able to order 4. As others have mentioned, the chocolate soufflé was amazing and a great way to end the meal! Overall, it was an okay experience, but I enjoyed some of the other nearby restaurants more(and they were much cheaper).

Roy’s is a Hawaiian institution! Bookmark this as your fancy date night spot on your trip to Maui. Would definitely recommend trying the prix fixe — the entrees are VERY pricey($ 40+ per) so the prix fixe is a much better deal. Two standout dishes: misoyaki butterfish(miso marinated cod) and the pineapple upside down cake.

The Misoyaki butterfish is to die for!!! Filet Mignon is delicious too. I think we also had something like pork belly sliders and steamed clams mussels. Everything was delicious! Has a romantic feel and we were seated right where we can see the ocean through the window. Service was ok. Our bill was around $ 200 including 3 drinks.

We passed by the building Roy’s is in on our way out from where we were staying many times, and did not notice it… until we actually wanted to have drinks here. It shares the building with the golf course, and it sits in the back facing the highway. There is definitely a specific type of clientele that was dining here when we went. It does not look like a local hangout, and after all the ads we saw on Hawaiin Airlines, I’m not surprised. We had drinks and dessert here at the bar. The drink was standard, but the pineapple cake I ordered was delicious! I like that it’s not some huge portion, and was just right for the two of us to share(considering all the calories that must go into such a yummy dish). It was very tasty, sticky, soft, with sweet pineapple(you would hope so!). If we stay in Lahaina again, I’d be more than happy to come here for drinks again. The food looks promising as well, so I may consider it too!

If you are wanting a sunset dinner, this is NOT the place. We were disappointed that our view was of the golf course. Never having been to Roy’s on Maui, we were hoping the view would be better. The food was delicious although it took a long time since there was a large party in the back that was slowing up the kitchen(our server told us this). Our servers were attentive. They pay attention to the littles because we had a child with us and they made sure to bring him his own appetizer(veggies/dip). The restaurant is upscale, but many people were wearing shorts with nice shirts and flip flops. I’d like to try the Roy’s in Coronado(San Diego, CA).

We went for New Years, and sure we knew we would be paying a premium, but we expected solid food and service. First off, it looked like they added extra tables and event chairs to just pack people in, we had to swap out the chairs as they were very uncomfortable. Our waiter was mia for about 20 minutes and was never around or attentive, service took too long even though not all the tables were occupied, and they should be able to operate with a full house, it’s not their first rodeo. We started with the crudo and crab cake, and then got the snapper and cod. The crudo was nice, the crab cake was tiny. The snapper was overcooked and the sauce had no flavor, the cod was nicer, but a bit sweet. For the dessert they had some pineapple dessert that looked and tasted like it was from safeway, no one really ate theirs. While we had a choice of appetizer and main, the dessert was the same for everyone, and our tab of $ 200 with a drink each just felt like we were taken for a ride. I don’t mind paying for good food, and I even understand the new year’s dilemma, but here it seemed like it was an excuse to charge more and work less. I will never come back!

First dinner in Maui and it’s going to be hard to beat! First, atmosphere is very relaxing, tables are set nicely(yet still casual), lights dimmed and lightly playing music in the background. Large windows which I’m sure have a beautiful view during daylight. Service is great! Manager stopped by to check on us. Our waiter, Brandon, was very kind, helpful and attentive. Check in to get you free soufflé! It was wonderful and cooked perfectly! I had the surf and Turf for dinner, it was the best I’ve had! Comes with 3 different sauces, each unique and delicious! Steak was cooked perfectly with loads of flavor, prawns were tender and juicy! My husband also loved his butter fish and my bite was truly buttery mmmm mmmm!

I love Roy’s — every chain I’ve been to, whether in Hawaii, Denver, or LA, has delivered great food and terrific service, and this was no exception. We decided to eat dinner here on our last night of the trip since we wanted something a little more memorable(and a 10-minute walk along the golf course seemed a lot more doable than a 50-minute drive to Mama’s Fish House with a toddler in tow). We ordered the lumpia for the kid since she generally loves egg rolls, and even though we didn’t order off the kids menu, they still brought her everything else from the kids prix fixe at no extra charge(quesadilla; apples, carrots, and celery with what I presume was a ranch dip; ice cream sandwich for dessert). She seemed to enjoy the lumpia, which they were kind enough to serve with the sauces on the side. I loved the sweet and sour black bean dragon sauce, but the child especially loved dipping her egg rolls in the butter sauce. For us, we got the ahi poke bowl and the steamed monchong. The poke was the best we’ve had this trip — the perfect combination of flavors, generously portioned(and filling with the rice), and beautifully presented. We ordered the monchong because we wanted to try a local fish and our server said this one was mild and flaky, which was exactly what I was looking for(the opakapaka was supposed to be even more so but we weren’t up to eating an entire 2-pound fish). Because we were celebrating our anniversary, we checked in on Unilocal, and we had a kid, we ended up with 3 complimentary desserts. The chocolate soufflé with its molten chocolate center was by far the best, and I am not normally a chocolate cake kind of person. The haupia with lilikoi was also quite good, and the child enjoyed picking the sprinkles out of her cookie, demolished the cherry and whipped cream, and then deconstructed the sandwich to get to the ice cream. She was a very happy camper when we left. Would definitely come back!

If a Roy’s is nearby i can’t help but dine there. I try to avoid chain restaurants normally, even more upscale ones — but i always make an exception for my favorite! The chocolate soufflé alone keeps me coming back. I wanted a little bit of everything and the Dim Sum Canoe for Two was perfect. The presentation of 5 little appetizers sitting on a giant canoe platter caught the attention of the tables around us. It was filled with lumpia, ribs, poke, shrimp and potstickers. I don’t know what they put in their potsticker dipping sauce but i ended up topping the poke with it as well for an extra kick — sooo good. I couldn’t decide between meat or fish and ended up with their Surf & Turf. The beef tenderloin with big prawns helped satisfying my indecisive palate! Roy’s sauces are delicious. The beef alone was tender but their singapore pepper sauce was a really flavorful addition. And make sure to get all the good stuff in the prawns head ;) DESSERT. My first Roy’s experience was at the San Francisco location when i was all of 16 maybe 17 years old. I will never forget my first soufflé there. Like i said, it truly is the reason i keep coming back. It’s always cooked to perfection and ends every dinner there on a high note.

I might be able to make this sweet and short… AMAZING. Started once we entered the restaurant. The greetings we received from the hostess and others working was incredibly warm and friendly. We were seated right by the window, which was nice because we got a lovely view of the golf course and the sun setting. Our server was very knowledgeable, personable, and professional. We were celebrating a birthday, so she brought out a little birthday hat and some decorations. Was cute. If you read my reviews, I always have to try my lemon drop martinis. And the ones there were DELICIOUS. the appetizers came out hot, not too long and very good packed with flavor. The entrees came out not too much longer. My steak was cooked perfectly and so was the risotto which I am very picky about! Because of their risotto I am now open to trying more of that dish. :) I check in on Unilocal so we got a free chocolate cake which was crazy good!!! We shared that and also ordered our own deserts… there was not a desert on that table that was not amazing! Wow. Sooooo sweet! Ok, so to wrap up. Looking for great food, a little spendy, but you recognize good value for the food when you taste it… this is a must visit. :)

**KEVIN epitomizes service, hospitality, and humility.** REWINDTO2013. When my family came here a couple years ago(as we do, every time we are on the island), the hostess unapologetically gave us one of the shittiest tables in the house, despite our request for a table with some light. When my mother asked if we could sit at another table, the hostess snapped, «All the other tables are reserved.» My mother wasn’t having any of that. So, after we were seated, she took a little tour of the dining room and returned. She saw a young man with a mohawk and looked at me, like, «Dare I even ask this guy for anything?» Kevin was the name of the fella with the mohawk. My mother asked if we could change tables, and he happily obliged. «Please, this way,» he said, kindly. My mom almost fainted with gratitude. «Don’t judge a book by it’s cover,» became the topic of the evening. FASTFWDTO2015. Looking around the dining room, I didn’t see any mohawks. It was a sad day, indeed. Kevin made such an impression, that we entered the restaurant hoping to see him. Sadly, we did not. When we sat, a quiet but friendly young man came to fill our water. I asked him if there was a dude named Kevin that worked there. He said, «Well, we actually have a couple Kevins.» I asked him if one of them had a mohawk. He said, GETTHIS, «Oh, that’s me. I used to have a mohawk.» HEWASTHERE! I told him about our experience with him, shook his hand, and expressed my elation that he was still bringing joy to the customers at Roy’s. Our waitress, however, sucked. She had zero personality, no sense of humor, didn’t check on us, and I know I’m gonna get shit for this, but she was way too old and tattered to be working in a Roy’s, where the vibe is fresh and«hip.» Whoever hired her made a poor decision. And if you think I’m a jerk for having said such a thing, so be it. That being said, THEWHOLEEVENING, KEVINWASONPOINT. Clearing dishes, providing refills, clean flatware, and everything in between… with a smile. This kid is a fucking BOSS. After our meal, I found the floor manager and told him what an amazing person he has in Kevin. I hope Kevin gets a raise, a promotion, or both. THEFOOD. Sourdough Rolls. Always good, but you must request them and have the patience for them to bake them — They are cooked to order. Cesar Salad.( ) This was very tasty, but the only complaint I had was that the anchovy crostini was completely stale. Not cool. Chicken Gyoza.( ) Sounded boring, but we got ‘em anyway, and MAN that was a good idea. These dumplings came on a sizzling cast iron skillet and were packed with flavor. If you like gyoza, you gotta order these. Cooked to perfection and a total flavor party. Mac-Crusted Mekajiki.( ) It’s basically a swordfish of sorts, served atop asparagus and Maine Lobster Essence. Under-seasoned, but cooked nicely. It didn’t wow me as much as some past dishes I’ve had here. OVERALL. Our waitress sucked, food was good, but it was the service from Kevin(a.k.a. the freakin’ MAN) that will bring me back, next year. Parking is a breeze, the views are spectacular, the dining room is large without losing its coziness factor, and the menu offers something for everyone. Asian-Pacific flavors with classical technique? Works for me.
