Rude, condescending staff at lunch time on 7⁄18. They reminded me of «soup nazis». Go elsewhere.

Let me just start this tale off on a happy note: I come from a long line of sandwich eaters. Meats, cheese, bread, all the trimmings. Nothing satisfies that lunch craving better. Unbeknownst to me my love of sandwiches was almost permanently ruined by venturing into the Lake Forest Subway. Having just moved into an office in the area I went exploring. I was crunched for time and went into the shop — thats where the tale takes a turn for the worst. First, I met the nice friendly sandwich artist. I chose my favorite, the sweet onion terayaki chicken footlong on italian herbs and cheese break. Obviously I got it toasted, then the curmudgeon manager appeared from rubbing nickles together in the back room. As the sandwich artist asked me what toppings I would like I could see him slither closer. I think the sandwich artist could feel his breath and smell the copper from his coin counting fingers. «More olives please» I said happily! I love olives! Hands trembling the sandwich artist placed TWO measly olives upon my sandwich. «A few more, please.» I asked meekly, not trying to enrage the beast. «I have margins to maintain!» shouted the miserly manager man. The poor sandwich artist quivered, this obviously was his modus operandi. This continued for every topping and sauce I requested. The sandwich was wrapped, I regretfully paid, and left. As I closed the door I wished I could swoop in and free the poor sandwich artist and her ingerdients from the crusty crutches of that Topping Scrooge. I wish this tale had a happy resolution, but alas I tried to stomach the sandwich but couldnt finish it. The man left a bad taste in my mouth, or maybe it was the sandwich. Travel elsewhere my famished friends, lest you meet the troll behind the glass.

This Subway is tucked away, if you blink you’ll go right past it. One easy easy tip would be, it’s directly across the street from the Shell station on Oakwood Ave. This is one of cleanest Subway stores I’ve been to. Good service each and every time I’ve been here. Enjoy!

There aren’t many fast food options in Lake Forest, especially in downtown, so Subway is a relief when you want something fast and not as yuppie-feeling. It’s tucked into a multi-unit building and only has street parking, which can be a challenge around lunch time. The employees were great — friendly and fast. The manager/owner/??? was hovering and micromanaging them while they made sandwiches, correcting such important details as whether the spinach goes on top of or under the cheese when the spinach is also being toasted with the sandwich. I’m sure there was good reason(something about spinach blowing off in the oven), but it comes across as being kind of a jerk when customers are watching. Meanwhile, there were no straws and they were out of iced tea. Manage the things that matter, good sir.
