I am a visitor to Lake Forest and simply cannot understand how this restaurant gets more than two stars from an unbiased point of view. There clearly is a high degree of local loyalty in the prior ratings and I do appreciate that. The food is basic. Nothing appears to be from outside a supermarket shelf. There is nothing wrong with that but the reality is you can do as well at any hotdog stand and better at most.

Frito pie is about the best thing to eat in LF! Everyone thinks of left bank for the delicious dogs but try a frito pie next time u stop in, u won’t be disappointed! Tuna salad sandwich is yummy too

Now, to start, I have conflicting thoughts about left bank. If I was writing this review three months ago, it would go like this– The left bank is the best lunch place in Lake Forest. I love nothing more than grabbing a chili cheese dog, chips, and a cold coke here. I’ve been coming here forever, and there is so much history here — my picture is up on the wall in the back, a huge painting of the original owner is up(and his son is dishing out hot dogs!), etc. But… Left bank was sold a couple months ago. The food is still great, but the history in not really there anymore. The walls are empty, the flooring changed, etc. Not that that is a bad thing, but it is just different. I will still come here, but its just not as fun anymore.

Bland hot dog. Not beef. Tastes like maybe bar s. Not tomatoes or spear on dog. The sloppy joe is tasty but not worth the price. I would never come back. Not sure how this place has such high rating? Maybe the people who come here have never had a good hotdog?

The best. Not so sloppy with cheese is amazing. So are the dogs. Atmosphere top notch and the family that runs the restaurant is great. For many that have moved away, it’s their first stop when they get back to LF.

I will swear by this place until the day I die. These are the best chili cheese dogs and sloppy joes you will ever have. I’ve been eating at The Left Bank since early childhood and have seen the food maintain its original great taste and quality over the last 15 years. Run by a truly stand up man and family, this is a «go to» spot for lunch in the north burbs. 10⁄10

I am a big dog and sloppy joe fan. Nothing special here. Nostalgic place that is overrated.

Best doggies on the North Shore. And the Not-So-Sloppy with cheese and a side of pickles is not to be missed. This is a Lake Forest institution.

Wonderful spot. Their not so sloppy joe is perfectly balanced and somewhat addicting. I’ve always had a sloppy joe addiction, and it looks like Left Bank will be feeding that addiction. I’m going to have to try everything else. Service was great, attentive and kind. Looking forward to this again.

An awesome and classic place. Not your usual Hot Dog place. Friendly, clean, cheese Dogs are the best. I’ve been going here for 35 years, still a consistent.

A Lake Forest institution with good food, a unique atmosphere and great staff. We go every other week with at least one of our kids. Have never, ever left disappointed.

I always get the chilli cheese dog with onions and peppers. The kids always love to go to this Lake Forest landmark — which is great because this is the least expensive lunch in the area. Although the food may be no-frills, you’ll come back for the chill atmosphere and friendly faces(even if you don’t get to sit in the VIP museum).

A great place to go for hot dogs with the kids! My husband grew up in Lake Forest, and it’s fun to go here with our little ones! I only wish they were open later. Their hours are pretty limited.

Food is decent but That’s not why you go here. You go here for the history if your a local and you go here if your a student cause it’s cheap and easy. I’ve also heard rumors about«special brownies» in the VIP room. If you want good food, Lantern and Chiefs are better for the $$.

When we moved up here, a friend of ours raved about The Left Bank. But after going there with my husband, we were left scratching our heads about what is so fabulous about this hole in the wall eatery. The hot dogs — well, let’s just say I can make better franks by boiling them on my stove top. I also found the chili wanting in any type of seasoning. It was very bland. We went. We tried it. We’ve never gone back.

I’ve always said, you have to acquire the taste for the hot dogs at Left Bank, but once you’re in, you’re hooked. over 25 years ago, when Piccadilly Circus went out of business across the street I started going to Left Bank, and now I wake up some days craving their hot dogs.(By the way, the only other food I wake up craving is McDonald’s hash browns) Chips and a soda with the dogs make a great meal!

I grew up on this place and I make sure to visit every time I go home. I love their steamed hot dogs and this is truly my favorite hot dog place on the planet. A cheese dog is manditory.

I had the hot dog and it was just OK. Limited what you can get on the dog. It was pretty pricey for a hot dog, small bag of chips, and small drink. Nearly $ 5 for the three items. Maybe the other food is really good, but not a place for hot dogs. If I’m in the area I may try some of the other food.
