Considering the small town vibes, this place is as good as it’s going to get as far as «Chinese food» goes. It’s sub-par, does the job, and usually fills you up with MSG loaded dishes(regardless of what they say, you can totally taste/see/feel the difference between Non-MSG and MSG.) I’ve been here in the past, and again, for a small town it’s the only half decent place to get your Chinese food fix. Until today that is, another one knocked onto the ‘Don’t go back’ side of the list. Got a pick up order the Kung Pao chicken. Somehow managed to get Kung Pao water-chest nuts and carrot chunks with about 3 to 4 small slices of chicken. and no flavour or spice. Highly disappointed.(Picture attached to show the ratio of chest nuts and carrots to chicken… ¾ veggies overload in a CHICKENDISH!!!) I’m all for supporting local places, but when things like this happen more often than not, it doesn’t seem too fair on my wallet to continue pumping money into places that refuse/can’t stand up to something as simple as a very popular and famous chicken dish in any Chinese restaurant.

First time here. I got the Shanghai rolls and orange chicken. The rolls were great. The chicken was good but overcooked, not just slightly. It was difficult to chew. The orange chicken had great flavor but being overcooked is the reason for 3 stars. If it was not overcooked it would have been excellent. I will try again to see if it was just a fluke.

Called to speak with the manager, wasn’t even asked what the call was regarding. I was told by the lady on the phone that this is a business and to not call back… unacceptable behavior by your answering service.

Egg rolls were great. I had the Thai chicken with basil and my husband had the Ying yang shrimp. We both enjoyed our entrees.

I’ve been eating here since I was a little kid, & it has always been delicious. They’ve added lots of new dishes(their Pad Thai is awesome!), and everything is good. They have THEBEST egg rolls in town(although they are technically fried spring rolls). Come back often & try something new every time… You’ll never be disappointed!(Plus I recommend hot jasmine tea with your meal!)

My wife and I were looking for good Asian place in Lake Jackson since we are fairly new to the area. Other place we have tried is «Taste of nations». We heard good things about the«Shanghai Egg Rolls» here and we were definitely not disappointed, they were great, we thought. Food was very tasty, on time, and we thought the price was very reasonably. Establishment gets 4 stars due to my steamed rice coming out cold with food, it was corrected and I was satisfied. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good eat, other than egg rolls, the experience was good but not mind blowing, I think a good standard Asian restaurant, I’ve started to limit my expectations on how great food can be around lake Jackson when it comes to anything other than seafood. Thumbs up, good food, nice place, wouldn’t mind coming back, but I’m not dying to go back.

Bland soup, okay main dishes but the appetizers are pretty good for a small town.

Service great, cozy atmosphere! Eveything made by scratch so you can change any ingredient(less salt, no MSG, extra spicy) and mix and match menu items(lo mein noodles, general tso sauce, chicken and pork, and add broccoli if you want) I love being able to make my own dish with my favorite things. Everything done the same now as its always been. Still owned by same people and run by son and daughter in law. LOVETHEEGGROLLS ½ price happy hour 3−6pm

The worse Chinese food I have eaten in years. New ownership didn’t know how to make Chinese food. This place is not the same Shanghai I used to eat. Also, the price is expensive for the food quality. Not recommend to eat in this restaurant because I feel like I’m getting ripped off by the quality and pricing. It breaks my heart because this restaurant used to be my #1 favorite Chinese food. Now, I will never ever come back again! Sorry for bad review but just want to express my thought.

They have THE best eggrolls! I live in Houston, and drive over an hour for these things. I’ve been here a dozen times and all but once the service had been impeccable.

Probably THEBEST eggrolls you can get anywhere. People come here just for that. I pretty much like nearly everything they have. Shrimp toast is good for appetizer. Fried chicken rice is excellent and very moist. The Singapore noodles are good and the new Malaysian Curry noodles is what I get now. I also like the General Tso’s chicken as well. The hot and sour soup is great as well. The regular rice served with the meals could use a little improvement, but not bad.

My mother in law absolutely loves this place. For me, It’s just okay. What i do clearly remember that I do not like the orange chicken. My son ordered chicken nuggets. The orange chicken is just the chicken nuggets with an orange sauce on it. It was not even enough to cover the whole«nugget.» By the way, my son can eat any chicken nugget. except for this one. The rest of the menu is okay. I love the egg rolls, crab puffs and soup. The price is just right. The staff is friendly.

I’m Chinese. I like Chinese food and I eat it all the time. Coming from this background, I’m a little bit pickier about Chinese restaurants that I go to. But, I’ve come to Shanghai Chinese a couple of times. And I haven’t been really impressed with either of the times I went. But, Shanghai is a quick place to go in Lake Jackson if you are craving Chinese take-out food. This place is probably better than the Panda Express that we have in Lake Jackson. When I’ve come here, I’ve ordered the Lettuce Wraps and the Singaporean Noodles. I thought the lettuce wraps were fine. But, I wished they had included more lettuce with the meal. I felt like I had to force a ton of filling onto one lettuce wrap so that I wouldn’t run out. The filling was pretty average, but I was satisfied. I didn’t like the Singaporean Noodles. They were a little too greasy for my taste. One thing I did like about this place was the eggrolls. They tasted good. I think that the lunch pricing is fair. If you want to have crispy noodles to add to your soup, you can request it for no extra charge. That is one tip that I’ve learned while coming to this place.

Really good local Chinese/Vietnamese food. The best locally! Take my word for it when I say the egg rolls are like none other. That we’ve had! They’re deep fried and oh so good! If you like hot mustard then you must ask for the home made hot mustard. The Phở here is a little on the mild side but still very good. Spring rolls are great too. Over the years I think we’ve tried everything on the menu. Nothing bad! I Have a hard time passing up the appetizer platter and pan fried dumplings.

Surprising find in Lake Jackson. Try the Hot and Spicy Diced Tofu w/pork and the Shanghai Egg Rolls.

Why would you make crab puffs with nacho cheese instead of cream cheese? Beef and broccoli was okay. It tasted like there was some rum in my coke, which I ordered at 11AM. I did not ask for an alcoholic beverage. Aside from that, the service was gracious. I don’t think this place would last very long if it weren’t for the location so far out of town, though.

Whenever I really want Chinese and I’m in Lake Jackson, I come here. Heck, Mondays at work have become«Go-Get-Shanghai» Day. Granted, it’s probably not the best Chinese food in the world, but as close as it is to where I work, I’m ok with that. The look of the place is definitely dated, but it still has a little charm. The service is usually excellent, though sometimes when I call to place a to-go order, they get it wrong. The food is actually pretty decent. I usually get the chicken fried rice dinner, which comes with soup and egg rolls. For $ 10, that’s not a bad deal. Speaking of egg rolls, theirs are delicious. I swear, I could eat those all day. Plus, sometimes the waiters will give you extra egg rolls. Yay! Now like I said, the food is good, but I’ve had better. The rice is seasoned well, but it’s a bit greasy. The hot and sour soup tastes good, but it obviously has MSG. But if you’re like me and can overlook such things, you’ll probably like this place too.

Shanghai is… Okay. The low mein noodles are pretty bad to be honest. The General Tso’s chicken isn’t too bad, the spring rolls were actually really good. I had a pretty good server the last time I went, really nice guy, other times has just been… Okay… Very overpriced for what you are getting IMO. Honestly, taste wise, Taste of Nation across the street and down Dixie a couple hundred yards towards Kroger tastes MUCH better.

Decent Chinese. The staff was attentive and the décor was well… mediocre. I couldn’t tell if the food was fresh or frozen. It was nothing exotic or stimulating, but it was fine for this area.
