Art Devlin’s Olympic Motor Inn

Stayed here during one of my brother’s hockey trips when I was little. It was super clean and management was so friendly. I remember one of the managers gave me a tour of the place. Great experience. Much better than local chains.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, close to everything!

My family just returned from a post Christmas vacation in Lake Placid. We stood at Art Devlin’s. This was our second stay at this wonderful motel. Our rooms were terrific with all amenities and a great view of Whiteface MTN. The staff is first rate and very helpful to all customers. There is a morning continental breakfast available in the Office. The motel is perfectly situated in the heart of the village and very walkable to shops, restaurants, and pubs There is also a Whiteface ski shuttle that stops daily in front of the motel. I always liked the way that the town of Lake Placid decorates itself during the Christmas season. It is no wonder that LP has been designated as a ‘All American Town’.
The ‘Devlin’ name is very special to this sleepy little hamlet and you easily get the sense that the family goes to great lengths to make sure any lodgers get the only the best of customer care. You can feel the tradition! The rates are quite reasonable and if you are weighing price versus value this is simply the best place around. Special thanks to Kevin, the manager, for his personal attention during our stay. If you are ever traveling in the North Country this is a must visit destination. You will not be disappointed, in fact you, like us, are more likely to come back again. gk

I’m staying at Art Devlin’s for the second time, and I continue to be very happy with my choice. The entire facility is spotless. The price for a basic room with 2 queen beds for a Sunday night in the middle of the summer is less than $ 90 before taxes. A very fair price. The property has a very nice pool with a breathtaking view. There is lodging closer to the middle of town, by about 3 – 4 blocks, but the parking at most of them is very tight and every time you leave the parking lot at those properties you’re right in the middle of the downtown congestion. Art Devlin’s is an easy and short walk to downtown and the walk takes you right by the Olympic center. Personally I love Lake Placid and will always stay at Art Devlin’s.

What a treasure — a reasonably priced, immaculately clean motel in a perfect location. It is obvious the owner, Art Devlin’s son, takes pride in his father’s legacy — a large trophy case in the lobby and impeccable lodgings — large flat screen t.v., the cleanest bathtub/​shower unit I’ve ever seen, super comfortable bedding, and beautiful landscaping — not to mention the fabulous view of the mountains. In the morning, there is an offering of several delicious muffins and fresh coffee. We will certainly recommend this to friends and family.

Such a great deal and location was perfect. The staff was friendly and accommodating and talk about clean. The lobby, the room, everything was super clean.
Our room was great — full kitchen, granite island, separate bedroom and two flat screens. Awesome! We were with a group for hockey — everyone else paid a lot more for chain hotels and got a lot less. I would not hesitate to go back.

Our room was nice, we upgraded to one of the delux rooms and had a king size bed, couch, coffee table, a big flat screen tv, a mini fridge in the bathroom. The bathrrom had granite counter tops and tiled floors. Bed was fairly comfortable and we enoyed our stay

We booked a room at Art Devlin’s despite it not offering online reservations. I thought it was a bit strange but went with it. I’m glad we did. We enjoyed a _​very_​comfortable room, beautiful view of the mountains, and an extra convenient location being walking distance to town and not too far from Whiteface.
We will definitely come back. The room was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and outfitted with upgraded fixtures. Despite it being quite cold, the room was very warm. Almost too warm but that was easy to fix by opening the balcony door a bit to let in some of the chilly winter air.
The only downside, and I like to post one for any review is that there is no coffee in the rooms! You must go to the lobby after 7 a.m. to get coffee and munchies. I thought that was a bit strange as even in rooms that cost half as much, one gets coffee in the room.
Nonetheless, this is not a major issue just quirk of the operation. This is more than made up for by the lovely display of Olympics memorabilia that is in the pristine lobby with a cozy fireplace that welcomes you when you arrive.
Also enjoyed the very courteous and professional service by everyone we encountered during our stay.

the free muffins in the morning are fantastic. fresh baked and full of flavor. the drip coffee is also really well done.
the pool was nice to swim and exercise in.
was also able to meet art devlin and his dog as well. such a nice man who’s integrity is apparent.
will definitely stay here again next time i’m in lake placid.

Large, comfortable rooms. Very friendly staff. Reasonable prices even in peak season. A definate winner.

My husband and I decided to take an impromptu weekend away and started looking for places in Placid. While I would have loved to stay at the Lake Placid Lodge, at over $ 700 a night it was out of the budget.
So I turned to my trustworthy peers at Unilocal and decided that Art Devlin’s was the place to go. For a bargain price of $ 92 I got a clean, comfortable room to rest my head after hiking and a great newly renovated bathroom with seemingly limitless hot water for soaking in the tub.
The only negatives for me was the fact that while the walls were pretty soundproof, we could hear the folks above us walking around. OH and the coffee in the morning is okay but I definitely skipped the from the freezer muffins and donuts.

What does it take to make elite? Do I need to send in a vial of my blood? If so, it’s already packaged and ready to go. Unilocal,you’re making me send biohazard materials. I wouldn’t even do this for a Klondike bar. Are you feeling loved yet? Because I sure as hell am not.
Chapter 1: The Savior
My friends and I went for a make-​up rafting trip; I was having a tough time finding a place on a week’s notice. Many cabins and hotel rooms in the surrounding areas were either booked, required a minimum 2-​night stay, or could not fit 5 bodies on the beds. JdF does not like being squashed under friends. One call to Art Devlin’s Inn and I found an affordable place ($ 27/​p and no one has to sleep on the floor) with spacious, upgraded standard rooms that included 2 Queen-​sized beds. Oh, and there’s a small fridge in the bathroom (don’t ask). Score! I pat myself on the back many, many times.
Chapter 2: The Annoyed
On the night before our trip down the river, we decide to take some pictures. My bff is a pyramid fanatic– coincidence that she likes to always be on top? I think NOT. We’re making a lot of noise, and laughing up a storm. Then came 3 loud «I’m going to break your door down and beat you til you bleed out of every orifice if you don’t STFU» bangs on our door. We concluded it was an angry golfer and simmered down completely. Apparently, the walls were thinner than we assumed.
Chapter 3: The Disturbed
It’s past 2:30 am, and I have finally fallen to sleep. A disadvantage of being a night owl is that it has to be super late in order for me to get some shut-​eye. I hear my name being called, and I awaken to see bff staring at me with widened eyes.
«What’s wrong?»
«My light just turned on by itself.»
She’s referring to the overhead light adjacent to her bed. There’s nothing frightening about that, I say. «It’s probably just an electrical shorting.»
«I was wide awake, and it just turned on by itself! Why would it do that?»
«Go back to sleep, it’s just a wiring issue.»
I turn on the desk lamp across from her bed because Missy is too scared to get up. When there’s a ghost involved, you don’t move– you stay as still as possible. In the survival handbook, moving alerts the ghost to your position. Don’t laugh, I buy it.
I then reach over and push her light to the ‘off’ position. At this point, even though I have rationalized her fear, it’s now on my mind. And having watched Paranormal Activity 1 & 2 did not help.
Every 5 minutes for the next half hr, I am looking over to see if bff is OK. She is not; she is clearly still terrified. At last, the exhaustion overcomes us.
Chapter FOUR A.M.: The Witching Hour
I am annoyed as I start to awaken. I know it is not our wake-​up call yet, and somehow I feel a warmth on my cheek. I look up and see that bff’s light has turned on again. And this time, a shiver runs through my entire body. Everyone is fast asleep, including my bff. And in my mind I am screaming:
«SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!»
«SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!»
«SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!»
I wake bff up to tell her the bad news. I ask her if she touched it, and she meekly responds «no.» More shivers run down my back. I turn over to see if my 2 bed mates are awake. One is knocked out like a dead fish, and the other is blankly staring at me. A brief thought flashes through my mind: the ghost has possessed her, and she is about to snap my neck like Katie did in Paranormal Activity 2. See how that reference never dies?
I try to make sense of how the light has switched on. But there is just no reasoning behind it. Because the light switch itself has been physically altered. The last person to touch it was me. Guess who is shaking under the covers for the next 2 and a half hrs?
Chapter 5: The Escape
Check-​out time and I’m at the front desk alerting the manager to the events of last night. He smiles and says «I thought the ghost was in the other room.» He literally mocked me out of his inn.
Moral of the story:
STAY AWAY FROM ROOM 29.

Great location at the southern end of Main St — close to restaurants and bars
An outdoor pool that is: heated, open late, and allows alcoholic beverages
From our upscale room, an amazing view from the balcony. Upscale room also had a great flatscreen TV, 3′ fridge, big bathroom, balcony furniture, tall ceilings, and lots of space.
Price is great

Great Deal here. The price is cheap and if you get an upscale room you won’t be dissapointed. Great view, huge flat screen tv, walking distance to Olympic Center, eateries, bowling alley and the shopping of main street. Oh and the beds were very comfortable, I thought. Very clean room. Large, nice bathroom. And the catherdral cieling makes your room feel waaay bigger. There was also a balcony with a great view in the easterly direction. Definitely should go there!

What a fantastic find! After the block of rooms for a wedding at another hotel filled up, we ended up booking an upscale 2^nd floor room at Art Devlin’s and I couldn’t have been happier with that decision.
From the call to make my reservation all the way through checkout, the staff was friendly and accommodating.
The real story, however, was our room. Cathedral ceilings, huge bathroom, giant flat screen TV and THAT VIEW. Waking up each morning and looking out to the gorgeous mountains — fantastic.
I have to admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect — the website isn’t exactly cutting edge and a «motor inn» doesn’t exactly sound glamorous — but after our fantastic stay I would recommend Art Devlin’s to anyone.

Stayed one night at this hotel and after watching «Hotel Impossible», there are several things that need to be changed but overall a nice, comfortable place to stay. Walking distance to downtown — several blocks, not right there, but anyone in good shape could walk it. Needs updates — -from «HI», the number one thing is «get rid of bedspreads!!!». Lots of germs and ick, no good hotels use them anymore. Update the rooms! They are mostly nice but could some modern touches. Front desk is friendly, but you need to push a button to get them (another no-​no from «HI»). Overall, the price was right and the room was clean with a few touch ups this could be a really nice place!
