Okay so our office had a lunch meeting here to wish one of our coworkers farewell for her retirement. The chips and salsa given to use was mediocre and not that great. It was more like watery tomato soup with chunks of onion and jalapeño. So lets start off with the prices. Upon reviewing the menu lunch starts at $ 10.25 each entrée. Each entrée comes with soup or salad, a drink(which I was not informed of, will mention later), and the entrée of your choice. The waiter was an ex military type guy and was expecting us to know what to order right away and seemed to be rushing us. Listening to everyone order really set me off. EVERYLITTLE thing you do results in an extra charge. If you would like two different meats, that’s an extra charge, sour cream? Extra charge. What fascinated me the most(as I am a chef and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu) is how he explained why there was an extra charge for«altering the lunch menu». He said that it was an inconvenience for the chefs because there are two different meats. I don’t know about you, but EVERYTHING is already prepped and ready, so there’s no way it was an INCONVIENCE. He could have just said they are lazy and don’t want to fulfill your needs as a customer. Our food then comes out at a decent time… the food presentation was okay and the servings were as small as could be for a Mexican restaurant charging what they were. I ordered the enchiladas suiza. The rice was overcooked. I had a teaspoon of sour cream and the enchiladas were filled with CANNEDCHICKEN. Yuck. It was absolutely poorly executed dish. Everyone else’s faces were of utter disappointment. And it gets worse… We asked for the checks to be separated at the end and he then starts handing out POSTIT’s with a total on it. NO breakdown NONOTHING. It was so sad and pathetic. You just paid whatever he wrote on the POSTIT. How sad. A few co-workers of mine were ordering for a retired co-worker who had some disability issues. Our server did not know she had any issues and decided to insult my two co-workers who were helping her by stating«can’t she order by herself, why are you guys ordering for her?» EXCUSE me? You have the nerve to make a judgment and you don’t even know what’s going on? That was it. That was the icing on the cake. The waiter assumed that we were just helping this poor woman because we were bored. I’m sorry, did we inconvenience you like we inconvenienced the chefs by asking for different meats? I guess you are going to charge us extra for that… Sorry. We absolutely do not recommend this place. By the way things are running it will be shut down very soon. If the management or manager is reading this please retrain your employees. I am a veteran of the US Navy and by the way you are showing that you love veterans in your restaurant, this was NOTHOSPITABLE at all.

I have always liked this place ever since I was little. I haven’t been in awhile but went tonight and its nice to see nothing has changed. This is the ONLY Mexican restaurant I have been to where the food is nice and hot. Everywhere else I have went to the plate is hot but the food is warm at best. Their enchiladas and tacos are loaded with meat. Not only that but the meat isnt a dried up wad like you find at other places. It just taste fresher and better idk.

Bad. Bad. Bad. Not worth coming here. What mexican restaurant doesn’t know how to make a michelada. The food is just ok. never again. It’s mexican food for beginners, if you’ve never eaten mexican food, then you might like this place

Very disappointed with drink selection, don’t know how to make michelada. Ask for fireball they didn’t even have it.

I had a quick 30 min business meeting, so I just ordered an iced tea, he had a water and chips were brought to the table. When the bill was being paid, we noticed we were charged for the chips. They said since we didn’t eat dinner they were going to charge us — so he said, ‘You didn’t ask if I wanted them so I don’t have to pay for it.’(That worked). Little did our waiter know I had my BF waiting at the bar, where we had a couple drinks and a meal — which was wasn’t memorable. I doubt I’ll be back.

I have to say this restaurant is ridiculous and so is the manager. Food there is not that good at all, soup is watery, cheese enchiladas have very little yellow cheese, we purchased 3 dinners to go spent almost $ 50.00 soup was filled less then half way up in the styrofoam cup, 2 tablespoons each of beans and rice, Never seen anything like this, we called and complained and all the manager had to say was that is their portions and we are not Don Juan’s lol… Never will go back to that rat hole again, she didn’t care if they lost business either!

Had lunch here with some colleagues. Food tasted bland and unauthentic. Run down interior with a weird layout including the kitchen at the front of the restaurant. Chicken tortilla soup tasted bitter and the tostada was tiny.

Busboy Logan was awesome, polite, attentive, a wonderful new addition to the staff, and Brianna was also great. Shock-shock, Mr. Picky actually loved his quesadilla! That’s a first, because I’ve never known him to like a quesadilla anywhere else … but that gooey melted cheese inside the beautifully browned large tortilla was really delightful, and I loved it too! The a lá carte Chili Relleno and Onin-Cheese Enchilada was, of course, as good as always. And after we were finished having lunch, we ordered another quesadilla that we shared :-)

Food is always great and the service is 10! I always like to try new things on the menu and I have no worries weather I’m going to like it or not. The welcome when you walk in is so warm. The staff is very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. Let’s not forget the margaritas! So good!!!

I’ve been going to Rusten House for more than 20 years. My last visit last week was very diss as pointing. The serving sizes have reduced by ½. I got about ¼ cup of rice and beans and enchiladas were Taco size! Owners need to rethink their strategies are they’re going to lose their faithful customers.

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid, and I’ve never once had a bad meal or bad service. The staff is always attentive and friendly. Everything here is delicious! The enchiladas are amazing! I highly recommend the Colorado burrito wet… My favorite! Monday nights they have a buffet, fresh fruit, salad, enchiladas, chile relleno, taquitos, everything was hit, fresh and delicious. Ever time I order food to go, it’s fast and perfect. The soups are the best, and the salads are are always crisp and fresh. This is the ONLY Mexican restaurant I will eat at in this valley. I am SO happy I branched out from the quesadilla & cheeseburgers that I only ate here when I was a kid. Highly recommend this place!

This use to be our favorite go to place for Mexican food until last night. We ordered #16 taquitos dinners to go. When we got home it was discovered these dinners looked like they were kept under a warmer from lunch. What little guacamole included had turned dark the beans cold and rice lumpy. Not to mention the taquitos are now the size of frozen Marquez taquitos. Their quality of food has deteriorated to the point this 37 year customer will never return. Shame on you guys.

Overall excellent Mexican food. Chile Rellenos are the best in the Antelope Vally, no other place comes close. Tacos are good, beef has a choice of shredded or ground beef. Chicken tortilla soup is also a highlight, and the enchiladas Suiza are also very good. Service is generally good, particularly if you are a frequent customer. Prices are very reasonable. Portions for the dinner menu are substantial. Seniors may prefer to order a la carte. The wait staff is headed by a formerly active Marine. I suspect negative responses from staff mentioned by other reviewers may be a reflection of the customer’s attitude. There are a few minor negatives. The bar is far from«full.» The salsa, while it has appropriate heat, is runny and more closely resembles taco sauce. Taken all in all, one of the more enjoyable places in the Antelope Valley for a Mexican dinner.

Literally the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life. If I had to choose between saving my children or eating rusten house for the rest of my life I’d have 3 tacos and chips and salsa till I died.
