Absolute and total dive bar perfection. The legendary bar, the shuffleboard, the bathroom pirate mural and of course stiff drinks make this a must if you’re in the area.

Coolest bar in MI. The word working and other decorative items make this a pilgrimage worthy destination.

Its a toss up between Stobers and Dagwoods in Lansing. I guess the burgers at Dags give them a slight advantage but this isnt about Dags. Stobers has Great bartenders! Great pours! Great crowd of regulars! Perfect sized place and the back bar is amazing. Im a craft beer drinker and they certianly have a solid selection. They dont have 50 taps but they always have few great choices on hand. Go here and treat the bartenders and regulars well. I promise you wont regret it!

I think I liked this place a lot more back in the day when you could still smoke inside… and I don’t even smoke anymore! Somehow the thick haze of smoke made it a little less depressing. I loved this place when I still lived in town so when I came back for a visit around the holidays, I was like«I MUSTGOTOSTOBERS!» So I did, and I was less than thrilled. Bad beer selection, the same old grumpy staff(I really adored the previous owners!) and broken wobbly stools. Oh, and some horrifically drunk woman was allowed to stay in the establishment despite the fact that she couldn’t walk in a straight line and was literally falling on top of tables and other people. Eek! The doorman was very nice, though!

One of my favorite dives in lansing. The actual bar is the centerpiece of the place, and it is a work of art. Never left Stobers unsatisfied!

As far as dives go, this place is a blast. I won’t lie, I was won over, 100%, by the awesome bar; the bar is wood, with an amazing phoenix carved into the woodwork above the liquor and some fantastic stained glass elsewhere. The bar is a bit dark(which is normal in a dive bar. They had no craft beer(not even one). They had some shuffle board tables. The waiters were friendly. Great little bar; one of the better dives in Lansing.

Cool place to be intoxicated. Nice selection of music, chill atmosphere, good mix of clientele, strange hand-carved birds and shit. You won’t find it elsewhere in Lansing.

Love this dive bar! I never even stepped foot in the place while at State, never even knew it existed actually. I was in town for training, and saw a building with a cool painted mural, so we stopped in. I was blown away at the grand wooden bar with awesome griffins and a stained glass Merlin the magician/wizard in the center… Apparently, they found it in California and had it brought to Michigan. This is one of Michigan’s oldest bars. Seriously, you are missing out if you do not go see the craftsmanship of this bar. The prices were right, decent jukebox, the bar tender was very friendly and kept pulling out a bartending book to try to libations out on us. We had never been here before, but we felt right at home. Keep in mind I have not been here in about 2 – 3 years…

Pretty cool venue, okay service and prices… The shuffleboard tables(two of them) are pretty nicely kept and fun. The place is kind of dark by the bar and you can’t see everything. Doorman was chill and talkative and no problems here!

Old old bar. No food just drinks. We stopped in while in Lansing hoping for a quick bite. It was a little weird, really dark, and by the look on the faces of everyone there, we didn’t belong. We asked about food and were sent next door to another bar. There was a table full of potluck. Odd visit indeed.

Two phrases sum up Stober’s. «Whoa, my tab is that cheap?» — Stober’s doesn’t serve food, and the drinks are very cheap. You’ll drink yourself silly, and spend half the cash you figured doing it. «My grandpa used to go to this place.» — Stober’s has been around a long time. It’s a tried and tested formula that keeps its customers happy.

My first experience here was during a bar crawl the night Michigan went smokefree. This place is notoriously smoke-filled and would not have been a place I would ever go. Loved the indoor shuffleboard, the handcarved bar, gargoyles and beautiful stained glass. The owners had some anti-smokefree law things posted on the wall so I didn’t exactly feel welcome here. Once emotions cool down a little I’d like to come back and try them again. This place has potential!

My friend was talking this place up before we arrived, and I started to get concerned. Usually, he’ll let a bar speak for itself. However, the man was spot on. The visit Stobers was definitely worth our time. I felt comfortable the minute I walked into the bar. The crowd was mixed, and it seemed like the whole place was humming. The bar has some outstanding workmanship in it, from Merlin to the griffins. Just masterful. I really wished my town had something as distinguished as this.

This one is a pretty simple review since Stobers has pretty much wrote it themselves. They proclaim to be the ‘Coolest bar in Lansing’. I don’t know how much this is really saying but I’d tend to agree. Plus, in their myspace page, in the spot where it says ‘people you’d like to meet’, their answer is ‘people who don’t suck’. Right on! So if you want to go to a place that is full of normal, all walks of life people, has shuffleboard, good drinks, jukebox and feels like a bar… there you have it.

This is my favorite Lansing bar. Here’s why: — Shuffleboard — A great jukebox selection — Cool atmosphere — Great service — A very unique, hand carved bar There’s not much not to like other than the smoke. That’s just a personal thing I guess.

This place is odd. First, I want to say that it’s gorgeous. The hand-carved bar, with the Merlin stained glass and glowing-eye griffins, is really quite impressive and it’s kind of a shame it’s too dimly lit to get a good look at the woodwork. And the jukebox has a wide range of excellent music, including Gnarls Barkley and Primus. The drinks are usually good and not too watered down, and hey, shuffleboard. But this place is… odd. Because I can never be sure whether it will be beautiful hipster or racist redneck night. I might as well flip a coin. Seriously, half the time when I walk in it is full of hot young things with piercings, and half the time it’s full of people missing teeth and dropping n-bombs. Just… odd.
