We were deceived by the 4 star review! We had hoped for so much more but were utterly disappointed! First off, one review that said the outside of the building was scary. We thought, okay, maybe that is all that is bad about this place and that is why they were given 4 stars! Well, we pulled up and the reviewer wasn’t kidding! The outside had chipped paint, old cracking wood panels and a huge hole, under the roof, by the entrance. We still wanted to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and we thought maybe this place would be a delicious«hole-in-the-wall» restaurant. WRONG!!! From the décor to the food this place is not good at all! The restaurant is not well maintained inside, as well, which makes me scared for the cleanness of the kitchen. The décor is a mélange of the previous restaurant décor and cheap Chinese lanterns and umbrellas on the wall. We sat down to a slightly dirty looking table. The waitress brought us some salad and miso soup to start us out. The miso soup was way watered down which gave it a low sodium tangy taste. Not good! The salad had wilted pieces of iceberg lettuce and salad dressing that was way too sweet! The dishes the food were brought out on looked dirty and dingy colored! We only ordered 4 sushi rolls– ribeye, tempura shrimp, cherry blossom and veggie. The tempura shrimp and veggie were ok(sadly, we’ve had way better!) but the ribeye and cherry blossom were not good at all! The ribeye torched on top but the sides were raw! The cherry blossom’s tuna didn’t taste right and the chili sauce tasted like it came from those spring rolls packaging you buy at a grocery store! The soy sauce containers were dirty. They had splash marks on the outside like cleaner was sprayed all over and never wiped off! We asked for low sodium and the waiters brought out a dirty syrup jar filled with what we hoped was soy sauce! Sadly, we paid $ 52 for 4 rolls and a soda!!! I’m so sad because we love to support local businesses but this one fell way way way under the bar. I actually want to recommend this place to one of those tv restaurant reality series where a guy comes in and fixes the place up– from décor to the food! Sadly, we are not coming back here again! :(

I really hate having to give a bad review since the hostess was kind and attentive; unfortunately, that just isn’t enough to fix our experience there. I ordered the spicy ramen which ended up being a maruchan ramen package with beef flavoring and that was about it. My wife had the chicken katsu and that came with gyoza which were still frozen and tempura veggies. The katsu chicken was mediocre at best and between both of us we ate about half of it. Our miso soups both had old solid food stuck to the sides of the bowls so we decided not to eat them. We also figured we’d skip out on the sushi and now we definitely never will try it since my wife ended getting severely ill and vomited her meal.

When Tokyo Sushi first opened I lived in Las Cruces and would order dinner at least 3 times per week. I absolutely love the fried rolls such as «The Heart attack». Now that I live in El Paso I truly miss this place. I often visit Las Cruces and every chance I get stop here. Love the food and the staff is friendly!

This place was very, very tasty. I’d definitely recommend it! Not the best in cruces, but pretty close. A tried a couple of rolls and they were both good. The take out was very quick and the staff was friendly. The bathrooms smell FUNKY though so beware.

Pretty good. second time coming. I must say the the salad dressing is very tangy and sweet. Ordered the galbi bento. The closest thing I’ll get any korean food around here. The sushi chef is korean. The food has not failed me yet. Including sushi. The fish is fresh despite the fact that new mexico is in the middle isnt surrounded by any water nearby.

Last time I visited the nigiri sushi was slightly frozen and tasted as if it had been sitting in water. Not fun and not tasty. The rolls remained pretty good, though. Hopefully the sushi is not a sign of reduced quality, but it almost certainly will keep me from coming back in a while, especially since there are so many great places to eat in LC.

Came here on a whim before Brad Paisley concert because it had 4 stars and we were in the area. Driving into the parking lot it was pretty full. To me it is a fairly good sign when there is a good crowd at a restaurant on a Friday night because it usually means the food is good. My husband and I ordered 4 rolls and our friends ordered a roll and a plate of Negiri, which had something like 13 or 15 pieces on it. Soup and salad were great but we struggled to get utensils for all of us. There was only 2 servers and there seemed to be mutiple confrontations between the 2 of them and one of them at one point was even yelling at the chef from the dining room at one point. Drinks never got filled up, we struggled to get utensils and the condiments we needed for our sushi. They even ran out of plate ware. Our sushi rolls were decent, but my friends Negiri plate was completely frozen. I know we are in the desert and that fish comes frozen… but the sliced fish laying over pieces of rolled rice and beds of dikon radishes were hard and still frozen. I could actually hear the crunch of the icey fish as she bit into her first piece. The servers never once asked how our food was and it was very difficult to get their attention to let them know her food was not edible. Once we were all finished and my friend still had a plate of frozen food we finally got their attention and she removed the plate and assured us the chef would take care of it. I guess by «take care of it» she meant he would let it sit under a lamp for 6 mins and replate it cause that’s exactly what he did. We saw it all. when she got it back the centers were still crunchy and a little frozen. Will not bad back and would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Thankful that none of us got sick. P. S. restrooms looked like they hadn’t been tended to in days. They smelled horrific too. They were more disgusting than a gas station restroom.

What a find. Great little place with solid service and fresh food. If you’re taco’d out(impossible right?) hit this place for some serious fish, bird or cow.

Let’s get one thing straight here folks, Tokyo Sushi is in Las Cruces, NM — not New York, NY, not Los Angeles, CA and certainly not Tokyo Japan. Don’t come here expecting the same level of food and service you have come to expect at Zekichi in New York City, or you’ll be wholly disappointed. However, if you like sushi and you are looking for good food and good service, at a good price(in Las Cruces, NM), then go to Tokyo sushi. Mr. Kim is always entertaining and the fish is always fresh. That’s why I keep going back when I’m visiting Las Cruces. The variety of the rolls — 40 and counting, and the nigiri should be enough for anyone looking for a little sushi in southern New Mexico. I can’t speak to the Korean food on the menu, as I have never ordered it. I do like Korean food quite a bit, but I just haven’t had the chance to try it at Tokyo Sushi. Food is a subjective experience, and I can only share mine hoping others will be open minded enough to at least try something new.

Been to lots of Japanese places(all over the world) and this place is consistently my favorite. Hell, when I moved away from Cruces for a while this was one of the only things I missed about the town! In other words, this is where I go for my birthday ha. Favorite thing is the chicken fried rice and I consider myself a connoisseur of the stuff. Most of the time I’ll drizzle some of their teriyaki over it. I also love that they give you this great salad and miso soup as a rule before whatever you actually ordered. The sushi has always been great as well as anything else I’ve tried but like I said, that chicken fried rice is where it’s at. As for the service, everyone in the restaurant has always been exceptionally friendly. I give them extra credit for that cause Las Cruces being what it is, I’m sure they don’t get much in the way of tips. Last but not least, I love the atmosphere here. Really homey, not corporate at all. Just screams«Mom and Pop». Support local businesses like this!

We came here because a local suggested it. We were in town for a week for a medical treatment, and this place was SO disappointing. All three of us felt sick for several days after we ate here. The waitress was nice, but not knowledgable about the menu offerings. She told my sister that the pork would be «shredded» in her Korean meal and instead it was chunks of tough meat. My mom and I got bento boxes, which had bad California rolls(cold tough rice), weird teriyaki salmon with really sweet sauce, lukewarm miso soup, a deep fried gyoza, and iceberg salad. There were hardly any vegetables. It was overpriced, and smelled stale in there.

Amazing Sushi Restaurant that I stumbled upon on whim while traveling on vacation and I have to say it was a great experience. The menu has such a great variety and I love the fact that there is a decent assortment of rolls and flavors. I can be a bit picky about what I eat and request changes at times. However, the sauce is one of the key components and I LOVED it. NOT overdone, slathered or drenched like some places and my server gave me lots on the side! Haha ALSO the customer service here is impeccable! The chef talks to customers like they are family and quite entertaining and funny!!! That’s a great way to enjoy lunch or dinner, by being able to engage with customers. Makes you feel quite welcoming and I will def be back if I travel back here. GOTRY this place out if your in the area!
