Ideal Bakery

Ideal isn’t so ideal. Don’t get me wrong, its not bad, just nothing special. We stopped in after our workout on Saturday. There isn’t much of a selection. A fe cakes you can order by the slice, some cookies, that don’t have much imagination, a few pastries that didn’t seem all that great and some fresh bread. We decided on ½ lb of the mexican wedding cookies and a slice of the carrot cake. The cookies were good. About 1 ½ dozen for $ 4. They just weren’t any better than the ones you could get at the grocery store. A lemon one got mixed in by accident and it was pretty gross. My fiancé didn’t really enjoy his carrot cake. He had about ¹⁄₃ of it and the rest was put in the trash yesterday. I had a bite and wasn’t impressed at all. Their fruit tarte looked good, but I don’t think I’ll be back to try it. The woman behind the counter was very nice. I didn’t see a menu for lunch food. I could go to the grocery store and get the same types of things.

I found out about this quiet, hidden little spot from a local Laurel, MD blog. I read about cakes, breads and desserts and suddenly found myself craving sweets. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I hardly eat desserts. I’m not a sugar lover. Ideal Bakery has made me an adventurer.
It’s a quiet little spot. Nothing too fancy as it’s a relatively new place. The two ladies who own and run the bakery are so sweet and they want to know what you want them to make. Amazing huh?
I walked in and ordered a tuna salad wrap for lunch (they have a little menu for lunch orders) and a rack of desserts. Cookies of all colors, shapes and sizes — stuff that I would never think about eating. Cheesecake. Pie (I HATE pie, but I had to try it). Some coffee flavored cake that was absolutely lovely.
Prices — not too expensive at all. I walked out of Ideal with lunch and enough treats to last me a month and only paid about $ 18.
