I have NEVER encountered such a RUDE chef at any location that provides somewhat of a cooking show. Our cook, a Hispanic dark skinned guy was the rudest person ever!!! I don’t need a photo because the managers know exactly who I am talking about. WEMADE A SHOWTOMAKEITCLEARNOONEDISRESPECTSUS. I was conversing with my boyfriend about how angry this guy was and he got so mad He tried to «joke» about throwing some sauce at me that shoots a balloon but did it so maliciously I literally wanted to get up and throw my drink at his face. he did absolutely no tricks and when we confronted him he tried to throw some fucking rice at my cousin insulting her because she«shared» her meal with someone else. My aunt literally got up and said«DONTEVERTALKTOMYDAUGHTERLIKETHAT» & asked a manager for a new cook. They didn’t switch him. He fucking served us the steak and lobster before he served the rice & veggies, it fucking ridiculous that for a tab of $ 300 this stupid ass chef would treat us like that. I’m only giving them 3 stars because their service sucked. Other than that the food was great. Sat at the sushi bar and got the worst attitude. I’ll take it to go next time.

Let me start off by saying I’ve been to many Hibachi restaurants from the higher end to the lower and never received this treatment. I have a bad shrimp allergy and I avoid it all together. Most hibachi restaurants just cook my food first on the grill or cook on one side of the grill for me. This place told me they couldn’t make my food at all on the hibachi, I asked for the manager and she told me the same thing. They could only offer to cook my food in the back as take out. That kinda takes away the hibachi grill experience. I just got up and left…

A few things at this place… Sakura hostess watches you like a hawk, kind of uncomfortable. We ordered three sushi rolls and one chicken hibachi. Hibachi came out 15 minutes before sushi making it awkward. The good new was the sushi chef was attentive and friendly. Bad new was the chicken hibachi was way undercooked and pink inside. Mentioned it to the waitress and they took 10% off the dish. No offer of recooking it or anything else. Was inedible without getting food poisoning. Portions were small compared to other hibachi. Waitress was inattentive. Sushi was good but not great. Nothing special for hibachi or sushi.

W went for Valentine’s Day and had a great time with my wife and kids. Thus was our second visit and w ended up with the same chef who’s so much fun. The good this time was a lot tastier than it was when we went a year our so ago. We recommend this as a fun place with very good good and no hassle. The ribeye, shrimp, rice… all good. Really fun place for the kids as well.

The chefs are all talented and maintain the same flavor all the time. Ive been to other Sakura’s and sometimes the food is slightly different. Love the sushi here too.

Their sushi is fresh and authentic, good sake selection, drinks are great and service is consistently great. Best sushi in Laurel. Kudos to John who’s been making the best sushi there since they opened.

2 years since my last visit I decided to check this place out for dinner with friends. First thing is the waitress acted like she didn’t understand anything that we were saying. I don’t know how long she has been working here but she knew nothing about the menu. How do you expect customers to feel comfortable with your establishment if your staff can’t communicate with your customers. When asked what’s good on the menu, the waitress stated she«doesn’t eat this food and wouldn’t know». That’s sign #1, if the employees don’t eat the food then nobody should. The second thing is when the soup came to the table it already had the spoon in the bowl. This would not have been a problem had the spoon not have been dirty full of old food all in the handle. That’s sign #2, if no one notice the dirty spoon going into the soup then cleanliness is not a top priority. Lastly, when I was give my cup of water I noticed a spot on my straw so I asked my non-English understanding waitress for a clean straw. She walked away to the counter were the unwrapped straws were sitting in a bucket and grabbed a straw with her bear hands and walked back to my table and places that same unwrapped in my water glass. What the hell!!! Did you even wash your hands first??? Hell No You Didn’t!!! The only reason I’m giving them a star at all is because the chef at our table was very entertaining!

Usually ok but last night… waiter dropped a tray of drinks that spilled all over my legs. Had to ask numerous times for the wine I ordered. Also, major leaking problem in the dinnig area(YIKES)!!! There were two pans on the floor to catch the drips. Secondly, I had to post this again because they took it down. It’s not my fault the service bad and the building was leaking. The chef WAS good but I HIGHLY doubt I’ll return.

This is the place to go if your into hibachi grill. Cook fresh in front of you with some entertainment from the chef. Portion are large so definitely will fill you up. Their yum yum & ginger sauce are to die for. Just be aware. You will leave the place smelling like you spent all day in the kitchen cooking. Haha.

So after a long day my family and I decided to go here for hibachi. We started out with the soup and salad and while the soup was good the salad was terrible. But then the meal continued and the food coming out got better and better. I ordered the flame minion and my other family member ordered the scallops while both were delicious I have to admit I like the scallops better. Anyway not only was the meal great but our cook was hysterical. Most places I go to the cook just entertains with motions but if your looking for entertainment with words go here. Overall I had a great time, and majority of the food was great, I just wish the salad would’ve been better which is why I gave it 4 stars

— The Sakura hostess we interacted with was rude — We asked to be seated multiple times but were not given a table. We had reservations for 7:30pm but still were not seated by 7:52 pm despite our whole party having arrived(and having been there for more than 10 minutes) — The restaurant did not appear to be busy, there were many, many open tables large enough to accommodate our group — We were not offered the option of getting a drink from the bar while we were waited and were told to stay in the waiting area — Perhaps the food is amazing, but we were never given the chance to find out My friends and I were very excited to eat here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We had reservations for a group of 10 at 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Three of us showed up a few minutes early, and let the hostess know we were there. She told us that we’d be seated when the whole party arrived and directed us to the waiting area. One woman in our party went back to the hostess area to find a menu so we could look at it while we waited, and the hostess reminded us again where the waiting area is(it felt like we were being scolded for leaving the waiting area). The rest of our party arrived except for the person whose birthday we were celebrating and his girlfriend(in other words, 8 out of 10 of us were there). We then asked to be seated again, as the majority of us were there and we wanted to get settled in an order a few drinks for when the birthday person arrived. We were again told we couldn’t be seated until the whole party was there. By 7:41pm, our whole party had arrived. We asked to be seated at this point(as we were all there!) and told that we had to wait longer. Finally, at 7:52pm, we walked out.

I’ve been to this place too many times to count. I keep going back for more than one reason. I enjoy the atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is delicious every time, and the house drinks are awesome. Try the ex-girlfriend or the karate punch. Fairly priced and much tastier than Kobe or even benihana when comparing flavor. I love it! A must go if your into hibachi.

We went there for an anniversary party. While waiting for others, I found the restroom and was shocked at how small and uncomfortable it was. There was no soap and it did not appear clean. When we were seated I noticed that everything smelled and felt greasy to me, the seat, table, flooring, The«show» was not spectacular just run of the mill, so what I expected to see as in other places was a show and laughs, but the cook/performer did not measure up at all to the entertainment part. I ordered the steak and chicken and I honestly felt cheated as the steak was great and juicy, but he chicken tasted like cardboard! My veggies were delicious, but I did not receive a good portion. I took the chicken home and when I reheated it – I could not eat it because it still tasted like nothing cardboard. Threw it away. Not worth the price my friends, not worth the price!

Update 6÷1÷14 Hideki Matsuyama won the Memorial golf tournament in a playoff with Kevin Na, so I chose Japanese for supper rather than Korean. And, since I hadn’t tried the sushi here, it seemed like an opportunity. I was a little apprehensive when I sat down at the sushi bar, as I was the only patron. I ordered the usual Kirin and chirashi. The salad was pretty ordinary, with a heavy hand on the dressing. The miso soup was very good, full bodied with seaweed as well as the usual tofu. The beer was bottled, and nicely chilled. The chirashi was served in a smallish bowl(see photo), but it was fully packed. The fish slices were thinner than usual, but there were four rather than the usual two or three slices. Surimai — as good as that industrial product gets Tomago — properly sweetened and firm, but no caramelization — 4⁄5 Octopus — perfect texture and flavor — 5⁄5 Squid — ditto — 5⁄5 Red clam — ditto — 5⁄5 Red snapper — delicious — 5⁄5 Yellowtail — creamy and yummy — 5⁄5 White tuna — gorgeous — 5⁄5 Salmon — meltingly delightful — 5⁄5 Tuna — not quite the intensity of flavor I like, but even Jiro-san has difficulty getting great tuna these days. 4⁄5 Garnishes — only a few slices of cucumber and the obligatory daikon threads Rice — traditionally correct flavor and texture. 5⁄5 And all that goodness for a measly $ 15.95! Oishi! I will also note that bento boxes and a large variety of rolls are available. They have a full page menu of gourmet sakes, too. I have no problem awarding five stars for the sushi side, bearing in mind that there are high end sushi places in DC I have yet to visit. And since I have not had better teppanyaki, I feel OK about upgrading the whole establishment.

I cannot tell you how much my family and I enjoyed this place! The food was delicious and the chefs were so entertaining. Sakura Japanese steakhouse is a great place for kids too! Even I jumped at the fire tricks! He made a volcano with onion and lit it up, he threw shrimp in people’s mouths. This one man from another party who was sitting with us was a pro at it! Funny, because his date looked a little embarrased. I liked that the food was filling, but it wasn’t greasy. The fish and the steak were fresh. I order a Geisha, all I can remember is that it’s fruity good and stiff! It’s nice to do something a little different for a change, the chefs give you these really tasty sauces that they recommend to flavor your food. One was a creamy sauce for seafood and the other soy based for chicken and steak. My sister told me that the shrimp and filet mignon was the way to go, so I ordered that and I was not disappointed. The prices were reasonable: For soup, an appetizer, and an entrée that is like 2 meals in one it was about $ 24. This place is cool. I definitely look forward to coming back here again!

This place made me a little bummed. I had seen great sushi pictures online, and having moved here from a great sushi climate, all I have wanted were some delicious rolls. The specialty roll menu was really only about two columns, and very similar with small changes. So, I tried to work with what they had. Not a lot of fresh options without eel or avocado(the two things I don’t like). I ordered a cheesy scallop roll, a coconut/crab/shrimp roll, and a small generic shrimp roll to fill me up. I specifically ordered things that DIDNOT have avocado listed in them. This infuriates me when places put stuff in a roll that isn’t listed on the menu. Seriously guys, why even bother telling me what’s inside if you’re going to change it. I hate avocado, I even checked before I ordered ‘No Avocado?’ .Freaking avocado… all in it. I did my best to enjoy it, which was not easy. The cheesy scallop roll was very good. I couldn’t even bother with the generic shrimp roll there was so much ‘unlisted’ avocado in there. And my third roll, the coconut one, it was like they forgot to go back and cut it again because the slices were so wide that it couldn’t fit in my mouth. Attempting to eat it involved taking bites out of it, which defeats the purpose of sushi.
