I am not much of a clothes shopper. Being male, perhaps, explains why I like to get in and out as quickly as possible. Ben’s is perfect because in one store I can get anything I need from shoes to underwear to outdoor jackets, shirts, gloves, hat, you name it. Even a nice Woolrich blanket to wrap up in while I am reading. Great store, wonderful sisters who run it make it easy and quick to find an buy what you want, and the prices are very reasonable. They have ben here 82 years — their father started the store in 1932. Pretty good records I’d say. Just a great friendly all in one place.

What’s better than buying from a small family-owned business that offers lower rates on big retail brands *and* in Massachusetts where there’s no sales tax? Nothing. Nothing is better than that. While visiting the Berkshires I picked up a pair of Dansko Maisie shoes at Ben’s for $ 125. They cost $ 135 on Zappos not including another $ 12 for sales tax. Massive savings with Ben’s. Marcia was a damn delight chatting with my husband and me while we browsed the shop. Face it, Zappos won’t give you restaurant recommendations, nor will Zappos remind you to watch out for the bears in the area. Ben’s has been family owned and operated since 1932 and I highly recommend stopping in for a good shop. Shops like Ben’s are what make towns like Lee great, with people who know their product and care about their customers(see aforementioned bear comment – thank you Marcia!).

I needed a pair of new shoes but quick, and they had the Dansko clogs I wanted for a good price. They suggested some others that were on sale, and the whole transaction was pleasant and easy. Very nice women salesclerks, a good selection of quality goods, and a cool overall shop.
